New report calls for eight-week break and mid-season rest for footballers
The tournament does not end until July 13, meaning Manchester City and Chelsea players could have a gap of just five weeks before the new Premier League season kicks off on August 16.
That is two weeks less than the minimum off-season rest and retraining period a group of 70 medical and performance experts have recommended in a new study.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel said earlier this week that the demands placed on City and Chelsea by the Club World Cup will hand a 'huge advantage' to Liverpool and Arsenal in next season's Premier League title race.
The European division of world players' union FIFPRO and Europe's leagues have taken legal action against FIFA over what they see as a lack of consultation by the game's global governing body over the fixture calendar.
The scheduling of the Club World Cup within that calendar has been described as a 'tipping point' in the debate by Premier League chief executive Richard Masters.
The expert group has put forward 12 'position statements' on player welfare as part of the Delphi Study, which they feel should be adopted worldwide as minimum welfare standards.
These included a mandatory four-week off-season break, and within that a two-week blackout period where clubs and national teams should have no contact at all with players.
There should then be a minimum four-week retraining period after the off-season break before resuming competitive football. Mid-season breaks should last a minimum of one week, experts said.
Premier League players will not benefit from any mid-season break next season, as was the case in 2024-25. A pause was introduced in the 2019-20 season but was dropped before the start of the season just ended, due to the expansion of international competitions like UEFA's Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.
The 12 position statements were agreed with the consensus of at least 75 per cent of the experts involved. Among the other statements were calls for mandatory consideration of the travel burden on players and the impact of long-haul flights, as well as specific workload safeguards for under-18 players.
Dr Vincent Gouttebarge, the medical director of FIFPRO, said: 'This study presents safety standards based on the considered and independent opinions of medical and performance experts working in professional football who understand the mental and physical strain placed on players.
'If we can all agree that health comes first, then we should take steps to implement these safeguards.'

The French side do need to sell as their financial problems have seen them relegated from Ligue 1, although the club are appealing the decision. Diaz speaks out Luis Diaz has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer, with both Barcelona and Bayern Munich said to be interested in signing the winger. And Diaz has now spoken out about the rumours, telling Colombian broadcaster WinSports: "It's not known yet, we're talking with the board. We're comfortable with where I am, and we'll have to see." However, it has previously been reported that Liverpool have do not want to sell the winger and have already rejected an approach from Bayern. Diaz scored 17 goals and provided eight assists across all competitions last season. Zubimendi joins Arsenal Arsenal have signed midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, just one year after he rejected the chance to join Liverpool. Zubimendi was reluctant to leave his boyhood club last year and the 26-year-old has now revealed why he has chosen Arsenal. "This is a huge moment in my career," he told the Arsenal website. Wimbledon star forced to borrow shorts from her coach after breaking strict rule
The All England Club has long had a strict dress code, and Wimbledon star Anna Kournikova famously fell foul of one of its rules It's not just on Centre Court where you can get in trouble for breaking strict dress code rules at Wimbledon - it can happen on the practice court too! Infamously, Anna Kournikova once had to borrow a pair of shorts from her coach during a practice session after violating the All England Club's strict dress code. At SW19, players are almost always required to wear all-white. There have of course been exceptions. For example, this year, players were allowed to wear black armbands to pay tribute to tragic Liverpool star Diogo Jota following his death on Thursday. But mostly, players have largely had to wear nothing but white on court down the years. And that's something which, before the 2002 tournament had even begun, Russia ace Kournikova fell foul of. At the time she was ranked No.54 in the world and was competing at SW19 for the final time in her career. But she found herself reprimanded for turning up to practice in a pair of black shorts. Before she could even step onto the court, Kournikova was sternly informed by tournament officials that she needed to change her attire. Unfortunately, she did not have a pair of white shorts on her person and had to resort to another option. Thus, she borrowed a pair from the legendary late coach Nick Bollettieri in order to comply with the rules and stay on court. In 1963, rules were implemented requiring all competitors to dress 'predominantly in white'. Then 32 years later, the wording was altered to 'almost entirely white.' This rule applies both during matches and on the practice court. Kournikova isn't the only one who has skirted the regulations and she did make sure to don all-white for her opening match against Tatiana Panova - although, she ended up losing in three sets. She did reach the women's doubles semi-finals that year however, before falling to eventual champions Serena and Venus Williams. Andre Agassi famously skipped the tournament from 1988 to 1990 in protest of the all-white clothing rule, later expressing in his autobiography: "I resent rules, but especially arbitrary rules. Why must I wear white? I don't want to wear white. "Why should it matter to these people what I wear? Above all, I took offence at being barred and blocked and made to feel unwanted." Nick Kyrgios caused a stir when he stepped onto Centre Court in 2022 sporting a red cap and red trainers, and he has recently urged the tournament to scrap the all-white dress code to allow players more freedom to express their individuality at the Grand Slam.

Viktor Gyokeres closes in on Arsenal transfer as Martin Zubimendi joins

Zubimendi joins Martin Zubimendi has finally completed his move to Arsenal, with the Gunners paying slightly more than his £51m release clause. Arsenal have forked out £55m for the midfielder in order to secure more favourable payment terms, with Zubimendi agreeing a five-year deal that runs until 2030. Sporting are holding out for a deal worth around £70m, with at least £60m paid up front, and Arsenal are understood to be pushing hard to reach an agreement with the Portuguese champions. Madueke agrees personal terms Arsenal have received a major boost in their pursuit of Chelsea star Noni Madueke after they agreed personal terms with the winger, according to a report from the Athletic. However, it is claimed that Arsenal and Chelsea have not begun talks yet, with the Gunners considering moves for a number of other wide options. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was recently asked about Madueke's future and said: "My message to the players and to the club is that I want just players that are happy to be with us. "The ones that are not happy, they are free to go. It's not for Noni, it's for all the players we have. But again, Noni has been very good during the season and very good tonight."
