Notre Dame star RB Jeremiyah Love threw out the first pitch at a St. Louis Cardinals game

USA Today26-07-2025
Notre Dame star running back Jeremiyah Love was in his home state of Missouri this weekend, and once again was honored by the St. Louis community.
As one of the top returning players in college football, Love is no stranger to the spotlight and it was once again on him Friday night as he threw out the first pitch at the St. Louis Cardinals game. The clip starts off with him catch an over the shoulder 'pass' from the mascot, as he proceeded to the mount for the ceremonial pitch.
Love would then have a solid throw, although it wasn't quite a strike, just a bit out of the zone. What's great about the video is it included his commentary during the whole time. You can hear him saying to himself not to screw it up, go back to his teaching and then not being overtly happy with his throw.
After leaving the field, he did acknowledge that his toss was better than it bouncing up there. Check out the full video below, as Love joins plenty of other former and current Notre Dame stars to throw out the first pitch at a Major League Baseball game.

Packers' Matt LaFleur Doesn't Hold Back About Jordan Love

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Green Bay Packers enter the 2025 NFL season with high hopes of being a top-tier Super Bowl contender. However, there are some questions facing the team. One of the biggest questions has to do with Jordan Love. Will the third-year starting quarterback be able to take the jump into superstardom that fans expected from him last season? If he can, the Packers will be a legitimate contender. Love's 2024 season started off in rough fashion. He went down with a knee injury in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles that forced him to miss the next two games. After that, he was unable to find his rhythm. There are also some concerns swirling about where Green Bay will be if Love does not take a big step from a production perspective. Read more: NFL Trade Watch: 5 Big Names Who Could Be Moved Despite the questions the young quarterback is facing, head coach Matt LaFleur spoke out singing the praises of him. LaFleur revealed that Love has made huge strides from a vocal leadership perspective. "Night and day," LaFleur said. "Even from last year, and I thought he took a big jump last year. Way more presence. As the kids say, he's got aura." He continued forward, talking more about Love and how he's looking ahead of the 2025 campaign. LaFleur sees a new sense of urgency in his quarterback. "You can see the urgency he's playing with right now," LaFleur said. "A lot of times in this [era], you're going to go as far as your quarterback goes. But it does take everybody around him playing at a high level." He completed 63.1 percent of his pass attempts for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Those numbers were solid, but they were not as good as expected. Love getting hurt in Week 1 might have been a big part of the lower production. All of that being said, the stage has been set for Love entering the 2025 season. He has a ton of talent around him offensively and is still considered to be a potential breakout superstar. It will be interesting to see if he can rise to the occasion. Latest 2026 bracketology projects UNC basketball to face familiar foe in NCAA Tournament

Preseason bracketology matchups rarely happen. The North Carolina Tar Heels' basketball program is looking to avoid what happened in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. After barely getting into the tournament, UNC beat San Diego State in the first four before falling to Ole Miss in the opening round. Season-long issues then resurfaced in the Tar Heels' loss to the Rebels and this past offseason saw an overhaul of the roster. In Joe Lunardi's latest round of 2026 bracketology, UNC earns a six seed in the 2026 NCAA Tournament. North Carolina is projected to a familiar opponent, 11-seed San Diego State, who advances via winning a First Four matchup. If this actual matchup takes place, Lunardi will cement himself as the top bracketologist in college basketball history (not that he already isn't). Lunardi might anger fans occasionally, but he's pretty accurate. Whereas the Tar Heels carried a guard-heavy roster last year, their upcoming roster will be post-heavy. UNC will carry 7-footers Henri Veesaar and Ivan Matlekovic at center, plus 6'11" Jarin Stevenson and 6'9" Caleb Wilson at power forward. Senior Seth Trimble and Colorado State transfer Kyan Evans will hold down the North Carolina backcourt, with freshman Derek Dixon and Virginia Tech transfer Jaydon Young behind them. If the Tar Heels make a deep run into the NCAA Tournament, Hubert Davis won't have to worry about his job security. UNC's roster is much deeper this coming season, despite plenty of new players, but that depth needs to be proven during non-conference gameplay. Former Notre Dame QB Steve Angeli praises Riley Leonard, discusses his clutch CFP play

Steve Angeli didn't receive a lot of playing time for Notre Dame last season because Riley Leonard was firmly entrenched as the starting quarterback. For the season, Angeli went 24-of-36 passing for 268 yards and three touchdowns against zero interceptions. But the now Syracuse Orange signal-caller did have an integral part in Notre Dame's run to the College Football Playoff national championship game. During the Orange Bowl CFP semifinal against Penn State, the now Indianapolis Colts rookie Leonard exited the game during the final drive of the second quarter with a possible head injury. Angeli came in to lead a 52-yard scoring drive that featured three third-down conversions and ended in a field goal that cut Notre Dame's deficit to 10-3 entering halftime of an eventual 27-24 Fighting Irish win. Angeli spoke to the local media at Syracuse on Monday about Leonard and that clutch FG drive. "That was the most fun I had playing football last year," Angeli told reporters … "Just having that opportunity was special." It's safe that say that while he didn't get to see the field often in South Bend, he loved his time there. Angeli, who completed 77 percent of his passes for 504 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception in 2023, has two years of eligibility remaining with the Orange.
