Adelaide family desperate to find son missing for more than eight months in Albania

7NEWS25-06-2025
An Australian family is desperately trying to find their son and brother who disappeared while hiking in Albania more than eight months ago.
Several searches have failed to find Cameron Twiss, 28, and now his Adelaide family are trying to raise funds to continue a private search.
Twiss failed to return from walking a hiking track in the Accursed Mountains on October 13, 2024.
He had set off alone from Valbona, in the north of the Balkan nation, heading for Theth about 17km away.
His belongings including his passport were later found in his hostel.
Albanian police and professional mountain searchers exhausted thousands of man hours searching the trail, with drones and sniffer dogs also enlisted in the efforts to try to find Twiss.
No further trace of Twiss was found and the search was called off after two weeks.
Stuart Twiss has now relaunched a crowd-funding appeal for a private detective to continue seeking clues to his brother's whereabouts.
He said the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has not been able to provide any answers to his family.
'So far Albanian police have not found any evidence and DFAT haven't been able to help,' Stuart Twiss said.
'Our family has now employed private investigators but, despite their efforts, we've had no breakthroughs.
'We're reaching out to ask for help ... toward continuing the search for Cameron.'
When Twiss first disappeared, locals told 7NEWS the 17km-long hiking trail should normally be undertaken with a professional guide.
However, it is understood Twiss set out alone.
At the time a friend told 7NEWS they feared he had fallen from a cliff or met with foul play.

Young worker crushed under forklift identified as 25-year-old Thanh Dat who worked hard to support his family overseas

A young forklift driver killed in a tragic workplace accident has been remembered as a hardworking son who dreamed of building a better life for his family. Thanh Dat, a 25-year-old Vietnamese man, became trapped beneath the forklift at a business on Powdrill Rd in Prestons, southwest Sydney, about 5.40am last Friday. Emergency services arrived to find him pinned under the heavy machinery. Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Despite the efforts of paramedics, he died at the scene from critical injuries. Dat's heartbroken family said he was taken 'far too soon', leaving a deep pain in the hearts of all who knew him. Described as a young man 'full of dreams', Dat moved to Australia in the hope of creating a better future for his loved ones back home in Vietnam. 'He was living and working in Australia as a forklift driver, always showing dedication, kindness, and a smile that could brighten anyone's day,' the family said in a GoFundMe post as they seek to return his ashes to Vietnam to say their final goodbyes and lay him to rest with love and dignity. 'Thanh Dat's life, though far too short, touched many with kindness, laughter, and love. Together, let us carry him home,' the post read. Community voices on safety risks The incident shocked nearby residents. 'I was shocked when I came down the street,' nearby resident Michael Hobbs told 7NEWS. 'But it's something that's always in the back of your mind. Crossing the road with forklifts and unloading on the streets … it's not just them, it's others on the street too. 'It's difficult to get up and down the road at times.' Another nearby resident, Carlo Sannio, said he regularly saw forklifts and trucks being loaded on the road. Peter Mycian, an experienced forklift driver at the same site, told 7NEWS that forklifts are often driven between two factories on either side of the road, but he had never seen any issues. 'I've never seen any incidents, any problems, any cars getting in the way. They're pretty good — they always watch out for everybody,' he said. He acknowledged forklifts can be dangerous if not used properly. 'They're machines — they can definitely be dangerous — but if you know how to operate one and you've got your licence, which I do, I don't see that they're a dangerous piece of equipment. 'It's my best friend because it saves all the heavy lifting. So, they are definitely a good piece of equipment but they can be dangerous as well if not operated properly.'

Aussies divided over controversial delivery after video emerged of driver casually tossing delivery over a fence - and Australia Post responds

Australia Post has reached out to a customer after video emerged on social media of a driver throwing a package over a garden fence. Video posted to Reddit shows the delivery driver showing up at the front of the property in an unknown Australian suburb, before it is then thrown over the fence. The driver then appears to write something on his PDA or phone and then walks away. The Redditor said the event had taken place two weeks ago and captioned it "I mean at least he actually delivered it and didn't leave a card." Comments were divided, with some calling the driver's handiwork "the best" they had ever seen. 'Trust me, your parcel has been through a lot worst through the sorting facility, this is nothing,' one wrote. 'Wow, a parcel not delivered to the post office but [to your] actual home? This is the best AusPost delivery I've seen,' a third added sarcastically. 'Honestly I wish they would do this with my deliveries instead of another failed delivery. Hope your stuff was ok though,' another agreed. Other commentators shared their displeasure at what they had seen. 'The companies have a lot to answer for, we're paying for our s**t [EXPLETIVE] to be delivered, not for you to squeeze every last micro efficiency out of the process. Anybody caught yeeting a package across the floor should be kicked out, not given an award for efficiency. No respect,' one person said. 'That's insane?! Imagine if it had been glass or something,' said another. While the driver's employer was not clear from the footage, Australia Post commented on the post, saying they wanted the customer to reach out to them to deliver feedback on the delivery. 'We are keen to look into this matter further and encourage the customer to get in touch with us directly via our website or calling 13 POST (13 7678)," the spokesperson said.

Trump's Mar-a-Lago admission raises questions about what he knew about Jeffrey Epstein

Donald Trump's admission that he was aware Jeffrey Epstein 'took' young women from the spa of Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort should serve as a pivotal moment in the saga when we look back on it. Of course, things don't always work as they should. The MAGA world, once in a tailspin over Trump's refusal to release more of the Epstein investigation records, seems wholly less interested in getting to the bottom of what the man who is now president knew. Trump was good friends with Epstein in the 1990s. They moved in the same circles, attended the same parties, flew together on Epstein's plane, and in the US president's telling, shared a similar taste in 'beautiful women'. Then they apparently fell out. The exact circumstances remain vague, but once the heinous allegations of sex trafficking were publicly ventilated and a disgraced Epstein faced charges, Trump was resolutely 'not a fan'. In 2019, The Washington Post revealed the two men were pitted against each other when they competed to buy a waterfront property in Palm Beach, Maison de l'Amitie, in 2004. In 2007, The New York Post reported Epstein had been banned from the Mar-a-Lago. These days, the White House says Trump banned Epstein from the club 'for being a creep'. That is the same reason he gave his former aide Sam Nunberg in 2014, before he first ran for president, according to the Post 's 2019 story. Trump now says he knew Epstein 'stole' young women from the Mar-a-Lago spa, namely Virginia Giuffre, who escaped the clutches of Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell by marrying an Australian she met in Thailand in 2002, and moving to Australia. Tragically, she took her own life earlier this year. The question he hasn't been asked, and therefore hasn't answered is: what did he think Epstein was 'stealing' these young women for? Trump suggests he was upset about Epstein depriving him of his employees.
