Prepare training courses considering need for skilled manpower with AI in various sectors: Ajit Pawar
There should be separate courses for Industrial Training Institute (ITIs), polytechnic, degree and postgraduate students, he said.
To prepare the courses, the departments of industry, technical education and skill development should play the role of guide and coordinator, he said at the meeting held at the Mantralaya on Monday.
'Increasing the use of Artificial Intelligence in all departments of the state government, agriculture, industry, trade, cooperation and many other sectors has become the need of the hour and everyone, including Microsoft, who comes forward to help the state in this field, will be welcomed,' said Dy CM Ajit Pawar.
He assured all cooperation and assistance from the Maharashtra government.
'An MoU has been signed between Microsoft and the state government for the effective use of AI technology, including the establishment of AI centres in the state. AI Centres of Excellence will increase efficiency, transparency, and digital literacy in the administration.
'On the lines of Microsoft Centre of Excellence in Noida and Google's IT Park in Hyderabad, efforts are being made to set up an IT Park or Innovation Centre through the initiative of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Baramati,' he said while chairing the meeting to review its present status.
'The meeting discussed the establishment of world-class laboratories in the state through Microsoft along with Vidya Pratishthan's proposed Centre of Excellence of AI in Baramati, starting training in the use of AI at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Baramati, increasing the use of AI technology in the agricultural sector, exchange of knowledge and information through collaboration between Microsoft and the government, effective use of AI technology, digital skill development, starting research centres, and making Microsoft's e-Sanjeevani technology used in the treatment process of cancer patients available to the Medical College in Baramati, Silver Jubilee Hospital, and other hospitals in the state,' said the release issued by the Dy CM's office.
During his recent India visit, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella highlighted the transformative impact of AI on agriculture in India.
In a post on X, Nadella shared the story of small-town sugarcane farmers who have historically faced significant challenges, including debt and suicide, due to pests, droughts, and diseases affecting their harvests.
He further said, 'The one example that I wanted to highlight was of the small farmers who were part of the Baramati Co-op, where you can take this powerful technology but make it have an impact, where small landowners are able to improve the yield of their land. And the numbers they shared in terms of reduction in chemicals, improvement in water usage and, ultimately, yield was phenomenal."
Further, he also mentioned the use of geospatial data from drones and satellites which can help farmers in their own language.

Abandoning EU's 2035 zero-emission car target would risk 1 million jobs, study says
Europe's car industry could return to producing 16.8 million cars a year, equalling its post-2008 crisis peak, if the European Union maintains its 2035 clean cars target and implements policies to support the transition, a study published by campaign group Transport & Environment showed on Tuesday. Conversely, deploying no industrial strategy and going back on the 2035 target that all new cars and vans sold in the EU no longer emit carbon dioxide could result in a loss of 1 million auto industry jobs and two-thirds of planned battery investments, T&E said in a statement. WHY IT'S IMPORTANT Already challenged by high costs in their home markets and a gap to Chinese and U.S. rivals in the electric vehicle industry, European carmakers now face the effects of U.S. President Donald Trump's 25% tariffs on auto imports, which have pushed many manufacturers to pull their forecasts for 2025. Following heavy lobbying, the European Parliament gave its backing to a softening some of the EU CO2 emissions targets for cars and vans in May, but it has so far stuck the regulations that will bar the sale of fossil-fuel cars by 2035. KEY QUOTES "It's a make or break moment for Europe's automotive industry as the global competition to lead the production of electric cars, batteries and chargers is immense," Julia Poliscanova, Senior Director for Vehicles & Emobility Supply Chains at T&E, said in the statement. BY THE NUMBERS If the 2035 goal is maintained and policies to boost domestic EV production are implemented, the automotive value chain's contribution to the European economy would grow 11% by 2035, the advocacy group said. Job displacement in vehicle manufacturing could be offset by the creation of more than 100,000 jobs in battery making by 2030 and 120,000 in charging by 2035, it added. Weakening the goal alongside lack of comprehensive industrial policies meanwhile could slash the value chain's contribution by 90 billion euros ($105.5 billion) by 2035.

Samsung share price dips: Earnings miss to Trump tariffs — key reasons behind the fall explained
Samsung share price: Samsung Electronics' share price declined in trade on Tuesday after the company delivered an earnings shock, projecting a 56% drop in its second-quarter operating profit, dented by US curbs on China and delays in supplying high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips to key US customer Nvidia. Additionally, US President Donald Trump levied a 25% tariff on South Korea, further clouding the outlook for the stock. Samsung, one of the world's largest makers of memory chips, reported a preliminary operating profit of 4.6 trillion won in the June quarter — the company's lowest since 2023 and short of analysts' projections, as per a Bloomberg report. The revenue was flat at 74 trillion won. The company will provide a full financial statement with net income and divisional breakdowns later this month. Samsung reported a drop in profit after its foundry division, partly dependent on Chinese demand, incurred a one-time inventory charge for unsold AI chips. The company also noted a decline in utilisation rates, explaining the weaker-than-expected performance in an unusual statement. However, Samsung expects operating losses in its contract chipmaking business to narrow in the second half of the year, citing a gradual recovery in demand. Samsung lost its leadership in the AI market to rival SK Hynix Inc. Its longstanding rival — along with Micron Technology Inc. — now sells more of the cutting-edge high-bandwidth memory chips paired with Nvidia Corp.'s AI accelerators, the Bloomberg report said. What's worse, the problem for Samsung has been compounded by the US restrictions on tech exports to China, thus slowing a turnaround in its chipmaking operation. "Samsung's operating profit dropped by a sharper-than-expected 56% due to inventory write-downs triggered by US export restrictions on AI chips destined for China. Trump's tariff policy had a significant impact on the company's performance," said capital market expert Anuj Gupta. He said that given growing macroeconomic uncertainties due to recent global trade tensions and slowing global economic growth, it is difficult to predict future performance. Due to the festival season in India, we expect its performance to improve in the second half of the year and expect an increase in demand growth, Gupta added. Samsung share price declined over 1% to 61,000 KRW from its last closing price of 61,700 KRW. "Last year, prices corrected by 32.23%. Currently, it has strong resistance at 65000krw and support at 57300krw. We are expecting the price to go down. Traders can use buy-on dips as prices are traded in an oversold zone," Gupta advised. Meanwhile, Anshul Jain, Head of Research at Lakshmishree Investments said that Samsung Electronics' share price has been trading in a wide 240-week range between 85,000 and 49,000 South Korean Won (KRW), recently rejecting the lower end of this range and forming a promising double bottom setup. This, he said, signals a potential preemptive reversal with a solid base. "A sustained move above 62,000 KRW per share will likely propel the stock towards 71,000 KRW apiece, and if momentum persists, a test of 85,000 KRW per share could be in sight. The substantial accumulation at the range lows suggests buyers are defending this zone aggressively. Only a close below 48,000 KRW per share can damage this structure, which currently looks unlikely given the price," Jain opined. Windows 11 Surpasses Windows 10 in Desktop Market Share After Nearly Four Years
After nearly four years on the market, Windows 11 has finally overtaken Windows 10 to become the most widely used desktop operating system. According to new data from Stat Counter, first reported by Windows Central, Windows 11 now commands 52 percent of the desktop OS market, surpassing Windows 10, which currently sits at 44.59 percent. While Windows 11 became the dominant platform for PC gaming back in September, its broader adoption lagged behind Windows 10 until now. Back in October 2023, leaked data revealed that over 400 million devices were running Windows 11. However, that milestone took the newer OS nearly two years to achieve—double the time it took Windows 10. One major reason for the delayed adoption has been Windows 11's strict hardware requirements. Despite Microsoft offering Windows 11 as a free upgrade to Windows 10 users, many older devices were rendered ineligible due to tougher CPU and security standards. In response, Microsoft has been nudging users to upgrade their hardware—sometimes using full-screen upgrade prompts. With Windows 10's official support ending on October 14, 2025, Microsoft is offering a few options for users not ready to upgrade. Consumers can receive one year of free security updates if they enable Windows Backup and sync their Documents folder to OneDrive. Those who prefer not to do that will need to pay $30 for the updates—or exchange 1,000 Microsoft Reward points. This shift marks a significant milestone in Microsoft's transition to newer technology, urging users to embrace a more secure and modern Windows experience.
