When do July 4th sales start this year?
While Independence Day falls on July 4th every year, holiday sales often tend to start early and hang around for a few days after. Amazon also announced that its next Prime Day will take place from July 8 to 11, so the two sales may blend.
Where are the best pre-July 4th sales?
Fourth of July sales offer some of the best prices on tech, appliances, mattresses and fashion, making it a great time to snag stellar prices on must-have items, and there are a ton of retailers participating in the holiday savings. Unsurprisingly, Amazon is usually one of the best places to buy because it sells products from almost all major brands across these popular categories, making it a tremendous one-stop shop for all of your Fourth of July buys.
Outside of Amazon, we recommend checking out appliance and tech sales at Best Buy, Home Depot and Lowe's, as well as holiday sales on a variety of categories at Target, Nordstrom and Walmart, among others.
Should I shop July 4th sales or wait for Prime Day deals?
There's no definitive way to say whether Fourth of July sales or Prime Day deals are best. Both sales offer plenty of deals, including some of the best prices we'll see all year. Plus, it's likely the two sales will blur into one big discount extravaganza, given their proximity.
Fourth of July sales offer more variety in retailers, although much of your shopping may take place on Amazon anyway. There are also plenty of non-Amazon retailers that will keep their sales rolling through mid-July, often directly competing with Amazon Prime prices. Because you'll be able to shop so many Fourth of July sales, grab what you need and then keep tabs on Prime Day deals later for anything you miss out on.
How we choose deals
CNET has a team of shopping experts and deal hunters who have operated across major sales events for many years, making sure you understand when a deal is worth taking advantage of or when it's worth skipping. Whether it's for Black Friday, Prime Day or the Fourth of July, we have the expertise to make sure you get the best deal possible.
To do this, we look for real discounts, quality reviews and remaining sale time when choosing an offer to show you.
Real discounts mean real discounts. We look at the price history for that product to make sure no manufacturers are inflating prices to make the discount seem more substantial than it is.
Quality reviews are equally important for any product, but particularly for deeply discounted items. If it breaks the first time you use it, the discount isn't really worthwhile.
Remaining sale time is a huge part of our vetting process. If a deal seems like it will only be around for a short while or will only be available for the remaining stock, we'll let you know in advance, so you don't return later only to be disappointed.
We are also considering the rising costs associated with tariffs to help you find items worth buying now.

Personal loan documents to gather before you apply
Most personal loan lenders require documents to prove your identity, income, bank account and address. Lenders collect information about your credit score, loan purpose and monthly expenses to determine your eligibility and loan terms. Gathering all necessary documents and information before applying for a personal loan may help you receive your funds faster. When you apply for a personal loan, lenders request several documents to verify your personal and financial information before making a lending decision. While each lender has unique application and eligibility requirements, most will require similar documentation. Knowing which documents you need and having them ready before you apply may increase your chances of approval and help you receive your funds more quickly. All lenders require you to fill out an application form to be approved for a loan. If you're borrowing from an online lender, the process is done entirely online. If you apply for a personal loan with your local bank or credit union, you may be able to complete the application in person with a bank representative. The application will likely look slightly different from one lender to another, but will usually ask for information such as: Your full name Contact information Address history Date of birth Social Security number You'll need to choose a loan amount, answer questions about the purpose of your loan and provide financial details about your monthly income, bills and debt obligations. Lenders must verify your identity to approve your loan. Two forms of identification are usually required, and acceptable documents may include your: Birth certificate Certificate of citizenship Driver's license Military ID Passport Social Security card State-issued ID The lender needs to be able to read your identification — take a clear picture with your smartphone or use a scanner to avoid delays. Personal loan lenders rely on your income to determine how much you qualify for. Because you aren't required to put up collateral to back an unsecured personal loan, you must prove that you have a steady stream of verifiable income to be approved. If you're traditionally employed, you can verify your income with a few documents, including: Pay stubs Tax returns W-2s and 1099s Bank statements Employer's contact information If you're self-employed, you may need any or all of the following documents: Bank statements 1099s for the past two years Tax returns for the past two years If you work for a regular employer, you may be able to access your pay stubs and tax forms through your payroll provider's online database. You can also contact your human resources or payroll department for assistance. Self-employed applicants may need to work with a CPA or other tax professional for help gathering the required tax forms. You must supply proof of your current address and information about how long you've lived there. You may not qualify if you've moved around a lot or just relocated to a new area — if you've recently moved, you may have to provide information about your previous address as well. While some lenders may require specific documentation, you can usually use one of the following: Utility bill Lease or rental agreement Mortgage statement Proof of insurance on your home or vehicle Voter registration card Property tax receipt Bank or credit card statement If you need to confirm a change of address, the U.S. Postal Service offers resources to assist you. While the fastest and easiest way to do this is online, you can also visit your local post office and complete the form in person. Most lenders will deposit your loan funds directly into your account, so you must provide your bank account information. You may also be required to set up an automatic payment through your bank to get the best personal loan rates. If you apply with your current financial institution, they'll have your information handy. If you choose to work with a new lender, have the following ready: Name of bank Routing number Checking account number Your user ID and password to your account (to verify your account through the lender's secure system) More about bank account access Lenders will often request that you link your bank account to a secure system to grant the lender 'read-only' access to your account. This means they can see and verify your account, but can't perform any transactions. This is a standard and safe method of verification You can opt out of this, but you'll need to verify your account by accepting small withdrawals and confirming the specific amounts. This option could delay your loan funds for several business days, but may be a good option if you don't want to give the lender any sort of access to your account. Once you apply, lenders will consider several factors when approving your loan and determining what rate to offer you. Credit score Loan purpose Monthly expenses Debt-to-income ratio What to do before you apply To improve your chances of approval and ensure a smooth application process, check your credit score and review your credit reports before applying. This way, you can take steps to improve your score if needed and avoid unnecessary applications. You may boost your eligibility by paying down credit card debt, disputing errors on your credit reports and adding a creditworthy cosigner. You may not be completely out of luck. Depending on what's missing, the lender may offer alternative verification methods. For example, if you don't have pay stubs handy, the lender may contact your employer directly to confirm income information or review your bank statements for proof of electronic deposits. If your income is directly deposited, some lenders can confirm your income information through your bank. That said, not having the required documents could lead to delays or outright denial. Be sure to notify the lender right away if you're missing documents to determine whether there are ways to work around the issue. What to do if your application is denied Here are three tips to consider if your personal loan application is denied: Get a cosigner, like a friend or family member who is willing to assume legal responsibility for the loan with you. Choose a bad credit personal loan or a secured personal loan backed by collateral like a boat, car, home or RV. Improve your credit score by paying down credit cards to lower your credit utilization ratio. When I originated loans, the most common reason for a slow loan process was failing to provide documentation quickly or correctly. Lenders typically want to see at least your current month's income documents. Don't bother sending a one-time bonus check from a few months ago — the lender wants to see what's happening in your account now and what income can be relied on going forward. And if you recently had a lower paycheck due to unpaid time off, it's best to wait a few months until you have two full paychecks. Denny Ceizyk, Bankrate senior writer, Loans Gathering the information and documents you'll need before applying for a personal loan can save you time and avoid potential funding delays. Make sure all your paperwork is legible and provide documents as quickly as possible to speed up the process. Not all lenders have the same requirements, so ensure you are aware of the general documentation criteria before applying. By being prepared, you can increase your chances of approval and receive your funds more quickly. Scripps Networks' Margins Improve: Can SSP Stock Sustain the Momentum?
The E.W. Scripps Company SSP has been benefiting from its Scripps Networks division, which has emerged as a key driver of margin improvement, supported by disciplined cost control and targeted sports programming. Partnerships with the NWSL and WNBA are expected to further drive both revenues and margin performance in the second and third quarters of 2025. To sustain growth, Scripps is expanding its women's sports line-up with new distribution agreements, such as the SI Women's Games and the Fort Myers Tip-off, which are scheduled for the fourth quarter. For the second quarter, the division's revenues are expected by the company to remain roughly flat, while expenses are projected to decline in the low double digits. SSP reaffirmed its 2025 target of 400-600 basis points of margin expansion but noted that its first-quarter results have already exceeded that range due to early execution of cost-saving measures. Building on the strength of strong ad sales execution and cost savings announced in the fourth quarter of 2024, the company posted its highest network margins in the first quarter of 2025 since the fourth quarter of 2022. In the first quarter, the Scripps Networks division reported $198 million in revenues, down 5.4% year over year, contributing 37.8% of total revenues. Segment profit rose to $64.1 million from $49.7 million in the year-ago quarter, driven by a 16% reduction in expenses. These efforts lifted segment margin to 32%, the highest since late 2022. The E.W. Scripps Company is competing against major players like Nexstar Media Group NXST and Sinclair SBGI in the national network and CTV space. Nexstar Media Group is expanding its national TV sports lineup through branded content, including the new 'Mobil 1 Victory Lane' segment on The CW's NASCAR Xfinity Series broadcasts, strengthening Nexstar Media Group's advertiser appeal in live sports. Sinclair's multicast networks, CHARGE, COMET, ROAR and The Nest, have posted record growth driven by anchor series acquisitions, rebranding efforts and fan-focused multi-platform events like COMET FEST and CHARGECON. With expanded distribution in top national TV markets and growing availability on CTV platforms, Sinclair now operates the fastest-growing network group in the free TV space. SSP shares have rallied 50.2% in the year-to-date (YTD) period, outperforming the Zacks Broadcast Radio and Television industry's growth of 34.1% and the Zacks Consumer Discretionary sector's return of 12.8%. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research From a valuation standpoint, SSP stock is currently trading at a forward 12-months Price/Sales ratio of 0.13X compared with the industry's 4.12X. SSP has a Value Score of A. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research The Zacks Consensus Estimate for second-quarter 2025 loss is pegged at 4 cents per share, which has remained steady over the past 30 days, indicating 73.33% year-over-year growth. Will Fiserv (FI) Beat Estimates Again in Its Next Earnings Report?
If you are looking for a stock that has a solid history of beating earnings estimates and is in a good position to maintain the trend in its next quarterly report, you should consider Fiserv (FI). This company, which is in the Zacks Financial Transaction Services industry, shows potential for another earnings beat. When looking at the last two reports, this financial services technology company has recorded a strong streak of surpassing earnings estimates. The company has topped estimates by 2.05%, on average, in the last two quarters. For the most recent quarter, Fiserv was expected to post earnings of $2.14 per share, but it reported $2.08 per share instead, representing a surprise of 2.88%. For the previous quarter, the consensus estimate was $2.48 per share, while it actually produced $2.51 per share, a surprise of 1.21%. For Fiserv, estimates have been trending higher, thanks in part to this earnings surprise history. And when you look at the stock's positive Zacks Earnings ESP (Expected Surprise Prediction), it's a great indicator of a future earnings beat, especially when combined with its solid Zacks Rank. Our research shows that stocks with the combination of a positive Earnings ESP and a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) or better produce a positive surprise nearly 70% of the time. In other words, if you have 10 stocks with this combination, the number of stocks that beat the consensus estimate could be as high as seven. The Zacks Earnings ESP compares the Most Accurate Estimate to the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the quarter; the Most Accurate Estimate is a version of the Zacks Consensus whose definition is related to change. The idea here is that analysts revising their estimates right before an earnings release have the latest information, which could potentially be more accurate than what they and others contributing to the consensus had predicted earlier. Fiserv currently has an Earnings ESP of +1.07%, which suggests that analysts have recently become bullish on the company's earnings prospects. This positive Earnings ESP when combined with the stock's Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) indicates that another beat is possibly around the corner. With the Earnings ESP metric, it's important to note that a negative value reduces its predictive power; however, a negative Earnings ESP does not indicate an earnings miss. Many companies end up beating the consensus EPS estimate, but that may not be the sole basis for their stocks moving higher. On the other hand, some stocks may hold their ground even if they end up missing the consensus estimate. Because of this, it's really important to check a company's Earnings ESP ahead of its quarterly release to increase the odds of success. Make sure to utilize our Earnings ESP Filter to uncover the best stocks to buy or sell before they've reported. Want the latest recommendations from Zacks Investment Research?
