Cameron Norrie's Wimbledon press conference takes odd Emma Raducanu turn with dating question

New York Post14 hours ago
Cameron Norrie certainly didn't see this question coming.
Fresh off his third-round win Friday against Italy's Mattia Bellucci at Wimbledon, the 29-year-old appeared taken aback in his press conference when a media member asked if he was involved with fellow Brit Emma Raducanu, whose love life has garnered much attention at the tournament.
'Apart from everyone here loving tennis, some of the gossip has been about who Emma Raducanu is dating. Can I ask if you're dating her?' a reporter asked Norrie, who replied, 'Sorry?'

When the reporter repeated the question, Norrie — chasing his first Grand Slam win — responded, 'I'm not, no. You can ask her. I don't know.'

Norrie has been in a long-term relationship with girlfriend Louise Jacobi since 2019, according to reports.
Rumors about Raducanu's personal life have been swirling since June, when the 2021 U.S. Open champ cheered on world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz during his semi-final HSBC Championships win over Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut at Queen's Club. The Spaniard went on to defeat Czechia's Jiri Lehecka in the final.

'Emma and Carlos' friendship was the talk of Queens — people think there is something going on between them because they have such a spark,' a source previously told The Sun.
'… They seem very happy and relaxed with each other.'
Raducanu, set to team up with Alcaraz in the mixed doubles event at the U.S. Open later this summer, laughed over the mounting buzz in an interview with BBC Sport.

'I'm glad the internet is having fun and we're providing some entertainment for everyone,' she said last month.
When asked again about the rumors in a Wimbledon press conference last week, Raducanu said of Alcaraz, 22, 'We're just good friends.'
Raducanu reached the third round of this year's tournament, falling to top-seed Aryna Sabalenka 7-6 (8), 6-4.
Both Norrie and Alcaraz play in the Round of 16 on Sunday.
Norrie faces Chile's Nicolás Jarry, while Alcaraz, seeking a Wimbledon three-peat, takes on Andrey Rublev of Russia.

USMNT blows early lead for heartbreaking loss to Mexico in Gold Cup final

HOUSTON — Edson Álvarez scored a tiebreaking goal in the 77th minute after a video review reversed an offside call, and Mexico beat the United States 2-1 on Sunday night for its record 10th CONCACAF Gold Cup title. Chris Richards put the U.S. ahead in the fourth minute, heading in a Sebastian Berhalter free kick for the second time in the tournament, but Raúl Jiménez tied the score in the 27th with his third goal of this Gold Cup. John McEnroe Calls For Player's Move At Wimbledon To Be Banned

John McEnroe Calls For Player's Move At Wimbledon To Be Banned originally appeared on The Spun. John McEnroe is on the call of the Carlos Alcaraz-Andrey Rublev Round of 16 match at Wimbledon on Sunday. Alcaraz, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, is rolling toward what looks like a four set victory. Rublev took the first set in a tiebreaker, winning 7-6. He was extremely fired up with the victory. The Spanish tennis star has since rallied back, though. Alcaraz, a five-time Grand Slam champion who is coming off a historic win at the French Open, won his next two sets against Rublev. He's looking strong in the fourth set, too. But McEnroe, who won seven Grand Slam titles, is taking issue with one of Rublev's moves during the match. McEnroe is taking issue with what might have been some gamesmanship from Rublev. Toward the end of the third set, in the middle of a game, Rublev called for a pause in the action, so he could change out his tennis racket. It's extremely rare to see a player change out their racket during the middle of a game, unless there is some kind of mechanical issue, like a string breaking or the racket getting damaged. You'll see players change rackets over the course of a game - Roger Federer would go through six to nine rackets over the course of a five-set match - but it's extremely rare to see it happen in the middle of a single game. Rublev did it against Alcaraz on Sunday, though. ESPN announcer Chris Fowler was puzzled by the move. So, too, was McEnroe. Fowler thought it might have been strategic. "A bit of gamesmanship?" he asked McEnroe. McEnroe didn't hesitate with his response. He thinks the move should be outlawed. "They just shouldn't let him do it," McEnroe said of Rublev's move on Sunday. Rublev is known for his fiery personality and he'll often go through a lot of different rackets during the course of his matches. But McEnroe has made it clear that he thinks Rublev's move of switching out a racket during the middle of an individual game is unacceptable. Wimbledon will continue play on ABC and ESPN this week. Jannik Sinner will face his first stiff test at Wimbledon on Sunday morning, but he's still a massive favorite over Grigor Dimitrov. There were some minor questions about how Sinner would fare at Wimbledon after his heartbreaking loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final, but those queries have seemingly been answered. Nobody has been able to lay a glove on Sinner through three matches, and the Italian has yet to spend more than two hours on the court for a single contest. Whitewashing Luca Nardi, Alexander Vukic and Pedro Martinez is one thing, but it will be a lot trickier to rout a player of Dimitrov's caliber. Wimbledon: Sinner vs. Dimitrov preview Dimitrov may be past his prime, but he is still a high-ceiling player who can do some serious damage when he's in form and, most importantly, physically fit. The Bulgarian was once the World No. 3 and he's been to the semifinals at three different Grand Slams. However, he's battled injuries lately and is never a safe bet to finish a match at this point. Dimitrov has been forced to retire from four different matches this season, including his first-round contests at the Australian Open and Roland Garros. It's great news that Dimitrov has been able to get through his first three matches at Wimbledon, but he'll now be playing on back-to-back days and will be put through the ringer against Sinner. AFP via Getty Images Wimbledon: Sinner vs. Dimitrov pick Dimitrov will know that he will need to have his sea legs with him in the latter stages of this match if he's going to have a chance of pulling this upset. That could lead to a quick set or two in the early stages of the match, as Dimitrov will likely try to conserve energy if Sinner gets ahead by a break or two.
