Glenn Phillips ruled out of Zimbabwe T20I tri-series due to injury
The Kiwi player was monitored upon his arrival in Zimbabwe and was advised to undergo a number of weeks of rehabilitation, as per the ICC official website.
Blackcaps right-hand batter Tim Robinson, who was already among the players who had joined the Washington Freedom squad as a cover for the MLC final, will continue to stay on with the side for the remainder of the T20I tri-series.
The likes of Michael Bracewell, Phillips, Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra were featuring in the MLC Final, and hence a number of replacements had been brought in.
Phillips was also a part of the Test squad, and his replacement in the squad would be named in due course.
Black Caps head coach Rob Walters felt for Phillips.
"It's obviously disappointing to lose someone of Glenn's calibre. Much like Finn (Allen), we really feel for Glenn and that he misses out on this series. We know he was eager to get out on the field for the Black Caps, and unfortunately, he won't be able to do that for this series. We know he'll work hard to get himself back onto the park, and I look forward to when that happens," Rob Key said as quoted by ICC.
Phillips will return to New Zealand along with Jimmy Neesham and Mitch Hay, both of whom were in Zimbabwe as cover for players who featured in the MLC Final.
New Zealand featured in their opening fixture of the tournament against South Africa, and won by 21 runs courtesy of Tim Robinson's 75* and Jacob Duffy and Matt Henry's three-wicket hauls.

Root hits his 38th Test ton, 13 hundreds away from Tendulkar's record of 51
Root has equalled Sangakkara's record for most career Test centuries to place himself joint fourth in the all-time list Aditya Kaushik New Delhi Former England skipper Joe Root continues to enjoy a record-breaking run in the fourth Test of the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against India in Manchester. Batting on Day 3 of the Test during England's first innings, Root began the day by surpassing Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis in the all-time list of top Test run-scorers, moving into the number three spot behind only Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting. But the Englishman did not stop there—he converted his strong start into a magnificent century to hand England complete control of the match. This is Root's 38th career Test hundred, taking him level with Kumar Sangakkara in the all-time list of most career Test hundreds at joint fourth. He now needs three more Test hundreds to equal third-placed Ricky Ponting (41 centuries), seven more to match Jacques Kallis (45 centuries), and 13 more to equal Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar's mammoth record of 51 Test centuries. Sunil Gavaskar Namedrops Sourav Ganguly In Big 'Incompetence' Take, Sends Message To ICC
Legendary Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar namedropped Sourav Ganguly in a massive message to ICC regarding substitution rules. In the aftermath of Rishabh Pant 's foot injury, Gavaskar urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to form a new committee in order to decide on substitutions. Gavaskar has been quite vocal against the concussion substitution and the legendary cricketer doubted down on his point as he said that there should not be any substitutions for 'incompetence'. On the other hand, he pointed out that Pant suffered a clear injury and although Dhruv Jurel will be keeping wickets in his place for India, the left-handed batter still had to come out to bat for his side in the first innings. "I've always felt that you are giving a like-for-like substitute for incompetence. If you are not good enough to play short-pitched bowling, don't play Test cricket; go and play tennis or golf. You are giving a like-for-like substitute for somebody who can't play the short ball and gets hit,' Gavaskar said. "Here, it is a clear injury (Pant); there has to be a substitute. I want some sort of committee appointed to take a call on this. There is a cricket committee, ICC has a cricket committee, but at the moment, that's headed by Sourav Ganguly, the ICC chairman is Jay Shah, and the ICC CEO is Sanjog Gupta." While there are substitutions available for concussions, injuries do not result in similar changes. Gavaskar asked for the formation of a brand new committee that can take important calls on the topic. "We don't want a situation for the media here in particular and in Australia to say, 'Oh, because it's an Indian situation, they have started to do that'. So, let it be a totally different committee to look at these injuries, maybe with doctors, etc., and let that committee come to a call," he added.

Can Root Break Sachin's Record Of Most Test Runs? Ponting Makes Bold Prediction
Sachin Tendulkar finished his career with 15,921 runs in 200 Tests for India, whereas Root has scored more than 13,300 runs for England in 157 matches. In the morning session of the third day's play of the ongoing fourth India-England Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, star English batter Joe Root overtook Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis to become the third-highest run scorer in Test cricket. Root needed 31 runs in the ongoing match to go past Kallis' tally of 13,289 runs, and he achieved the objective by taking a single on the fifth ball of the 58th over. Root, who tops the ICC Test batter's ranking, will now have a chance to become the second leading run getter in Tests on Friday. For that he needs to score at least 120 runs in the first innings. As of now, former Australia captain and No. 3 batter Ricky Ponting is the second-highest run scorer in Test cricket. Ponting played 168 matches from 1995 to 2012 for the Baggy Greens and amassed a total of 13,378 runs. Before the start of the third day's play at Old Trafford, Ponting was asked about the possibility of Root overtaking him and becoming the second leading run getter in Tests. And in reply he said that the 34-year-old batter could break his record on Friday itself. 'He is, and if he keeps going like he is, that could very well happen today. We just spoke about it then; it's a great day for batting, and what a remarkable career it's been for Joe (Root). I haven't had a chance to talk about him much, obviously, the last few years not being around but how he's sort of transformed from someone that couldn't go on past 50 to 100, and now it seems like every time he gets to 50, he's marking down for 100 or a big 100," Ponting said on the Sky Sports pre-match show. He also said that Root will have a real chance to break Sachin Tendulkar's record of 15,921 runs and become the highest run scorer in Test cricket. 'I was looking at some of the numbers then, 37 Test Match 100s, 13,000 runs—what an amazing career to date, and there's still a fair bit to go. What is he, 35? It doesn't look like his passion for the game has gone anywhere. His run-scoring passion has probably gone up over the years. Yesterday (Thursday) it was coming up; can he chase down Sachin? Let's see, he might well do that," Ponting added. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
