Cyclone players reflect on loss to Ole Miss in NCAA tournament

Yahoo24-03-2025
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — The Iowa State Cyclone men's basketball team suffered a disappointing loss Sunday night in the NCAA basketball tournament, ending a season of promise in which the team reached its highest AP ranking ever at No. 2.
The Cyclones fell short against Ole Miss in the Round of 32, by a score of 91-78.
'They're a team that plays with a lot of toughness,' said Iowa State coach T.J. Otzelberger. 'They're connected defensively, their switching can be disruptive. At times it wears on you mentally, you're not able to get the ball in the paint and not get the normal plays that you want to make.'
WHO 13 Sports' Mark Freund has a wrap-up of the game and players' reactions to the heartbreaking end of the season.
Ole Miss moves on to the Sweet 16 for just the second time in program history.

Florida tied for 11th best blue-chip ratio in college football

The blue-chip ratio isn't a perfect science, but it remains true that each of the last 14 NCAA champions has a roster comprised of at least 50% four- and five-star talents. Bud Elliott of CBS Sports invented the stat over a decade ago, and it has remained a popular projection tool for identifying which teams are true contenders entering the regular season. While any team has a chance to make the College Football Playoff, only 18 have the blue-chip ratio necessary to finish on top. Florida finds itself in a three-way tie for No. 11 on the list, alongside Auburn and Miami, with a 64% blue-chip ratio. Sixteen of the 26 class of 2025 signees are rated four stars or higher, which is just below the four-year average used. Billy Napier might have signed his first top-10 class, but the BCR trend says he's relying a little too heavily on three-star talent to buff the numbers. Signing one or two fewer three stars would have helped the BCR over the next four years, but the potential of adding an undervalued recruit is too high for Napier to ignore. 2025 Blue Chip Ratio Top 18 How has this stat performed in the past? The Blue-Chip Ratio is not... "A requirement to make the College Football Playoff. While related, making the College Football Playoff and winning it are two drastically different accomplishments in terms of difficulty. Schedule strength plays a much bigger role in the former. Plenty of teams outside the BCR threshold made the four-team College Football Playoff (typically getting crushed, by the way), and many more will make the new 12-team field." "A substitute for player development, culture or coaching. All of those elements matter and are necessary to win the national title. The BCR is simply the minimum historical standard of recruiting necessary to win it all." "To be used to pick games. It is not an effective predictive measure in single-game settings." SDHL Set To Broadcast All Games On YouTube Next Season

Europe's top women's hockey league, the SDHL, will broadcast all games on YouTube next season, a move similar to what the PWHL did in season one. Previously, Swedish networks TV4 and SVT shared the league's broadcasting rights, but the league recognized more young fans are consuming games on social and digital platforms. "We are incredibly proud to announce that SDHL's matches next season will be broadcast on YouTube," said Angelica Lindeberg, CEO of the SDHL in a translated quote. "This makes the league more accessible than ever, both for fans in Sweden and internationally." That accessibility will also allow more North American teams from the NCAA to PWHL to regularly watch top players overseas. It's the focus on increasing the league's reach, and allowing for more storytelling controlled by the league that helped drive the decision. "YouTube as a broadcasting platform is a strategic step in SDHL's continued development," said Lindeberg. We want and need to maximize our reach, improve accessibility and create new opportunities for commercial collaborations – while offering the audience a modern and accessible experience. It is completely in line with our core values: to be brave and innovative." While marketing and a focus on high quality production are central to the move, the reach is a tremendous benefit, one the PWHL capitalized off during their exclusive run on YouTube. "It feels very exciting that SDHL will now be available globally on the world's largest video platform," said Viktor Johansson of XVI Sports, who negotiated the broadcast rights for the SDHL. "We see great opportunities to attract new fans, while giving all existing hockey fans a completely new way to experience world-class ice hockey." The SDHL season is set to begin September 5, 2025, roughly a week earlier than usual. The league will take a month long break for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics, with their regular season concluding February 27.
