Chelsea's Club World Cup win ‘not an upset'
The Blues defied the odds to overpower a Paris St Germain side who were overwhelming favourites in Sunday's final in New York.
Cole Palmer was the star of the show in front of a crowd of 81,118 at MetLife Stadium, scoring two fine goals and creating the other for Joao Pedro in a shock 3-0 win.

Defender Colwill said: 'Everyone was rooting for PSG or saying they were going to beat us but it's not an upset because we know how good we are. If other people don't believe that then hopefully we have changed their minds now.
'This performance was amazing and we should get the credit we deserve.
'It was a statement victory and in the future, if we keep winning trophies then everyone will give us the love that we deserve.'
PSG had stormed into the final by thrashing Real Madrid 4-0 four days previously.
Having already won four trophies in 2024-25, including the Champions League and a French league and cup double, their determination to complete a historic quintuple seemed clear.
Colwill is convinced the confidence Chelsea will gain from beating such an outstanding side will see them emerge as strong contenders next season.
The 22-year-old said: 'I said at the start of this tournament that our plan was to win it and people looked at me as if I was crazy!
'So I'm going to say the exact same thing now going into the Premier League and Champions League. I think we're ready and we'll see next season.'
The Club World Cup tournament, the first to be played in an expanded 32-team format, has had its detractors for a range of reasons but Colwill has no doubt the concept is here to stay.
'In the future, I think this will be the biggest trophy of all,' he said. 'It will be bigger than the Champions League and we were the first team to win it.
'I've really enjoyed it, playing games every four or five days, playing to sold-out stadiums, playing against different teams who you would never normally get a chance to play.
'I might be saying that just because we're winners now but I really have enjoyed it and it's been good.
'This is the biggest tournament I've ever won. Going into the game I was a bit nervous, thinking it was the biggest game I've ever played, but in years to come I will look back and think what a day it's been.'

Sky Sports pack drops by £330 in record low Virgin Media deal as Premier League nears
Virgin Media has slashed the price of several TV bundles that include Sky Sports access just in time for the new Premier League season. The brand's Summer of Sports sale offers discounts of up to £336 across select bundles until September 2. The price cuts come less than a month before the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season on August 15. The most affordable package is Virgin's Bigger Combo bundle + Sports, which has been reduced from £65.99 to £54.99 per month – a saving of £264. This package includes more than 200 TV channels, including eight Sky Sports channels such as Main Event, Football and F1. It also provides 516Mbps fibre broadband for smooth, lag-free streaming and gaming. The Biggest Combo bundle is also reduced, offering the same Sky Sports channels and 516Mbps broadband, but also including Sky Cinema and a free subscription to Netflix Standard with ads. This bundle is now priced at £64.99, down from £78.99 – a massive £336 saving. Virgin says these are the 'lowest ever' prices for its sports packages. Additionally, there's a £120 discount on Virgin's packed Mega Volt bundle, which provides more than 230 TV channels with Sky Sports HD, Sky Cinema HD and Netflix Standard with ads, plus a whopping 1,130Mbps broadband, reports the Mirror. This comprehensive package also includes an O2 SIM card with unlimited data, minutes and texts, for a monthly cost of £79.99, reduced from £84.99. Virgin customers can add a discounted TNT Sports package to their subscriptions for £18, compared to the usual £30.99 rate when signing up directly. All of Virgin's TV and broadband plans now have a 24-month term, matching with those offered by competitors such as Sky. However, it's worth noting that Virgin intends to raise its prices every April, with the Bigger Combo bundle + Sports set to increase to £58.49 from April 2026 and £61.99 from April 2027. The Summer of Sport sale sees Virgin going toe-to-toe with Sky's own discounted sports package, the £35 Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle. Although this option doesn't include broadband, it does offer nine dedicated sports channels, 100 regular channels including Sky Atlantic, and free subscriptions to Netflix Standard with ads and Discovery+. However, boxing fans should be aware that many of the biggest fights are only available through one-off pay-per-view payments. For instance, the Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois fight on July 19 can be ordered from DAZN for £24.99 or is currently included for free with a DAZN Annual plan. Virgin customers keen on sports will have plenty to cheer about as they can look forward to a minimum of 215 Premier League matches each season from 2025/26, with Sky ramping up its live game broadcasts from 128 to at least 215. One satisfied Virgin customer left a glowing review on Trustpilot, saying: "10 out of 10 for Virgin Media. We have been with Virgin for a year now and are very pleased with the service, it's been fantastic to have all the sports channels as we love football. I was able to get a great deal." Another user encountered some technical issues, saying: "Sometimes my Virgin box freezes, turns off and resets, and it takes around seven minutes to reboot. This is annoying when watching football." While another happy customer said: "I'm extremely happy with the product and service. The broadband speed is second to none and extremely reliable. The TV package is also superb – Ok, it doesn't have Sky Atlantic but with Netflix, Sky Cinema and all the Sports channels included, there's enough to watch."

Arne Slot's team jet off to Hong Kong before heading to Japan for four friendlies across 10 days as they gear up for a defence of their Premier League title Liverpool are jetting off on their pre-season tour to Asia this morning with Arne Slot's Premier League champions playing four games before taking on Crystal Palace in the Community Shield in three weeks' time. And while the Reds continue to mourn the tragic passing of Diogo Jota earlier this month, anticipation of a strong title defence is building. Once they get used to the conditions and time difference, Liverpool will take on AC Milan next weekend before facing Yokohama Mariners and then take on Athletic Club in a double-header on the same day. Here are some of the things to look out for as the new campaign appears on the horizon. Wirtz debut The Germany star did not make his much-awaited debut against Preston North End last weekend so anticipation remains high ahead of his first appearance for the club following his record move. It will almost certainly come against Milan next Saturday (12:30pm BST) and considering the fee paid there will be pressure on Wirtz to adapt immediately. Ekitike offer Not content with spending £211m in the market already, Liverpool are now pushing on with a move for the Eintracht Frankfurt striker who could cost another £80m. Newcastle are out of the running, a bid is in the pipeline, personal terms are no issue and once a fee is agreed between the clubs the young France striker could be part of the second half of the tour. Nunez departure That would expedite the likely departure of striker Darwin Nunez, who will be part of the touring party but could well bid farewell before the rest of the squad returns to Merseyside. Newcastle boss Howe confident Isak will stay on amid transfer speculation
July 20 (Reuters) - Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe said he is confident that striker Alexander Isak will be at the Premier League club at the start of the 2025-26 season, after leaving the Swede out of their 4-0 friendly loss to Celtic due to transfer talk. British media reported earlier this week that Premier League champions Liverpool were interested in signing the 25-year-old Sweden international, who has three years left on his Newcastle contract. Isak bagged 23 Premier League goals last season, only behind Liverpool talisman and Golden Boot winner Mohamed Salah (29). Isak, capped 52 times for his country, joined Newcastle from Spanish side Real Sociedad in 2022 and has since netted 62 times in 109 appearances for the Magpies across all competitions. "It was my decision. He travelled back to Glasgow with us but I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him," Howe told reporters after Saturday's match. "The last thing he wanted is to be sat in the stand watching, that wasn't fair to him. But I'm confident he will be a Newcastle player come the end of the window. "It's difficult for me to give 100% clarity on any player. Alex is happy at Newcastle, he loves the players, the staff, the team. I'm confident he'll be here at the start of the season. "Yes, I've had discussions with him but that's not abnormal. I respect a player's career and how short it is. Alex has been really good, he's trained really well and I realise there'll be noise around him." Newcastle, who qualified for Champions League football after finishing fifth in the Premier League last season, will next be in action against Arsenal in a friendly match in Singapore next Sunday.
