Father Of Ignored Star, India Team Member vs England, Blasts BCCI Selectors: "They Gave Chance To Karun Nair"
His father Ranganathan Easwaran is angry over the treatment meted out to his son.
"I'm not keeping a count of the number of days that Abhimanyu has been waiting for his Test debut. I am counting the years; it has been three years now. What is the job of a player? It is to score runs. He has done that. People said he didn't perform in two India A matches during the last tour of Australia and didn't get into the team, which is fair enough. But Karun Nair wasn't in the team during the period when Abhimanyu performed before the BGT. Karun wasn't picked for the Duleep Trophy or the Irani Trophy. Abhimanyu scored close to 864 runs if you consider the period from last year to the current year," Abhimanyu's father Ranganathan Easwaran told TOI.
"Then how do they compare? I don't understand. They gave a chance to Karun Nair. Fair enough, he scored 800-plus runs. The selectors have put faith in him."

Ranganthan went on to say that his son looks depressed. "My son looks a little depressed, but that is bound to happen. Some players jump the gun based on IPL performances which earn them a spot in the Test team. IPL performances should not be counted while selecting the team for the longest format. Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Irani Trophy should be the basis for Test selection," he said.
Abhimanyu Easwaran, 29, has played 103 first-class matches, scoring 7841 runs at an average of 48.70. He has 27 centuries and 31 fifties.

IND vs ENG series: KL Rahul falls narrowly short of edging Sunil Gavaskar's England record
KL Rahul scored 532 runs during the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England. (PTI) KL Rahul has added another feather to his cap in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy by becoming India's second-highest run-scoring opener in a Test series in England. With 532 runs in the five-match series, Rahul has gone past Murali Vijay and Rohit Sharma but will not be able to jump the legendary Sunil Gavaskar . Gavaskar's iconic tally of 542 in 1979 has stood for over four decades now, and Rahul came within touching distance of overhauling that stat. His stay in the second innings of the fifth and final Test was disrupted by Josh Tongue. KL Rahul press conference: On last over fight, Rishabh Pant run out and fired up Shubman Gill KL Rahul, having opened the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, could only add 7 runs in the second innings before his stay was cut short by a cracking Tongue delivery that straightened on landing and forced an edge that was plucked by Joe Root in the slips. Despite the low scores of 7 and 14 in the Test at The Oval, it has been a great tour for the India opener. After scoring a century in the practice game against the England Lions, KL Rahul scored fifty-plus scores in all but the ongoing fifth Test. The 33-year-old latched scores 42, 137 (at Headingley), 2, 55 (at Edgbaston), 100, 39 (at Lord's), 46, 90 (at Old Trafford) and now 14, 7 (at The Oval). His 532 runs have come at an average of 53.20 with 1066 balls faced - only behind Shubman Gill (1141). Most Runs by an Indian Opener in a Test Series in England: 542 – Sunil Gavaskar (1979) 532 – KL Rahul (2025) 402 – Murali Vijay (2014) 368 – Rohit Sharma (2021-22) Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Franchises Worry About Losses As Maharaja Trophy Set To Move Out Of Chinnaswamy
Last Updated: Maharaja Trophy franchises are staring at big losses with the tournament set to be moved out of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is considering moving matches of the Maharaja T20, the state's IPL-like franchise competition, out of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after failing to get the state police's clearance to host matches at the international ground, according to ESPNcricinfo. The stadium is a key part of the police investigation over the June 4 stampede that killed 11 people and left several others injured. The tournament is slated to be played between August 11 and 27. The KSCA had previously announced that matches will take place behind closed doors with no audience. Now, according to the report, they are looking at their facility in Alur on the outskirts of Bengaluru and the Wadeyar Ground in Mysuru as alternatives. However, a lack of floodlights and spectator seating at Alur could be an issue for broadcasters and franchises. The report said that Alur seems likely to host the inaugural women's tournament, the Maharani T20, which begins on August 4. The KSCA had hoped for Chinnaswamy to host the final, but that seems unlikely. The report added that franchises are now voicing concern about the financial losses they face, given they have already made hotel bookings for players and staff, assuming the matches would be at Chinnaswamy. It piles pressure on KSCA. As recently as last week, a one-man committee from the Karnataka government had declared the Chinnaswamy 'unsafe' and 'unsuitable' to host big events. 'The design and structure of the stadium was unsuitable and unsafe for mass gathering," the commission deemed in its report which was also tabled before the state cabinet, as accessed by news agency PTI. 'Given these systematic limitations the commission strongly recommends that stadium authorities consider relocating events that are expected to attract large crowds to venues that are better suited for such large gatherings," it stated. 'Adequate entry-exit gates for mass entry and exit (ingress and egress), and emergency evacuation plans compliant with international safety norms," it said. 'Until such infrastructural changes are made, continuing to host high-attendance events at the current location poses unacceptable risks to public safety, urban mobility, and emergency preparedness," the commission added. Several international matches are also scheduled at the ground, including the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup final. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the home side whose victory celebrations saw the stampede, also play at least seven games here and will also expect to get the final as per IPL norms. All games are currently in limbo. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. IND vs ENG: 'Told Jasprit Bumrah, why are you leaving, whom would I hug after five wickets?' - Mohammed Siraj after Day 2 heroics
India's Mohammed Siraj (AP Photo/Kirsty Wigglesworth) After a day of high drama, intense spells, and swinging fortunes, Mohammed Siraj lightened the mood with a humorous behind-the-scenes anecdote involving none other than Jasprit Bumrah . Following his fiery four-wicket haul that helped India roar back into contention on Day 2 of the fifth Test against England, Siraj revealed a heartwarming exchange with his senior pace partner. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'I told Jasprit Bumrah, 'Why are you leaving? Whom would I hug after taking five wickets?'' Siraj shared in a video posted by the BCCI . 'He said, 'I'll be here. You just take the five.'' Although Siraj narrowly missed the five-wicket mark, his spell was instrumental in dismantling England for 247, after they had looked dominant early in the day. His aggressive burst in the afternoon session, which included key wickets like Joe Root and Ollie Pope, showcased not just skill but character after a tough opening spell. Prasidh Krishna, who also grabbed four wickets, spoke about the growing bond within India's pace unit: 'Siraj and I have been playing together for five years, including in the IPL. We talk a lot off the field. Same with Akash Deep — the fast bowling group is looking really sharp.' The camaraderie off the field is clearly translating into performance on it. After England's blazing start, 109 for 1 before lunch, India's pace trio stormed back, triggering a collapse and ending the innings with just a 23-run deficit. India ended the day on 75 for 2, with Yashasvi Jaiswal unbeaten on 51, giving them a lead of 52. But while the numbers tell one story, the chemistry between Siraj and Bumrah, built on shared fire and mutual respect, continues to fuel India's fast-bowling revolution.
