Colonel Jangvir Lamba completes Ironman 140.6 triathlon in Taiwan; adds to his string of elite endurance feats
The Ironman 140.6 includes 3.8 km of open-water swimming, 180 km of relentless cycling and 42.2 km of marathon running- all in a single day without a break.
A fourth-generation officer in the Indian Army, Col Lamba hails from Jaipur, Rajasthan, and currently serves at the ASC Centre (South), Bengaluru. Known for his discipline, his journey from being a professional bodybuilder to an accomplished endurance athlete has inspired many.
His past achievements include titles like IRONMAN 70.3 Goa in November 2022, Asia-Pacific IRONMAN Championship, Cairns, Australia in June 2023, IRONMAN 140.6 Langkawi, Malaysia in October 2023 and Marathon des Sables, Morocco in April 2024. A 253.5 km multi-stage ultra marathon through the searing Sahara Desert, often termed the world's most brutal footrace.
Col Lamba was formerly a national level bodybuilding judge with the Indian Body Builders Federation and has undergone transformation from sculpting physique to testing the extremes of human endurance, proving his relentless drive.

JAMMU & KASHMIR : In view of the rise in drug abuse in Kashmir, the Indian Army has moved beyond its conventional role and joined hands with the civil administration and sports bodies in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, once hit by militancy, to organise two major initiatives—the mega sports festival 'Varmul Gindo 2025' and the cultural heritage event 'Kashur Riwaaj 2025'—to steer the youth away from the growing menace of drug addiction. 'Varmul Gindo' brought together more than 1,600 athletes from 75 local clubs to compete in over 20 disciplines, ranging from football to kabaddi, volleyball to martial arts, snooker to hockey, and from niche disciplines like powerlifting & fencing to women's rugby. The event, which was held across 12 venues in Baramulla, started on June 17 and ended on July 27. According to the organisers, the event witnessed significant participation from girls in sports like rugby, handball and kabaddi. 'The energy and discipline these games have instilled are precisely what our youth need at this critical time,' said Omar Kakroo, president of the Baramulla District Sports Association. 'We're building not just athletes but future leaders,' he said. According to Kakroo, the 'Varmul Gindo,' which was the brainchild of the Indian Army, was a unique sports event with mass participation. He noted that sports activities were not confined to one place or venue. 'All sports fields in Baramulla, from Pattan to Uri, close to the LoC, and from Rafiabad to Uri. It was not confined to Baramulla or a single ground. The whole district was covered, and even the sports events were held in rural areas.' A local resident, Abdul Jabbar, opined that it is imperative to hold such events, as they offer a constructive alternative to youngsters and steer them away from drug addiction. 'The participation of over 1,600 athletes in the event also showcases the talent of our youth. Our youth have talent. They just need platforms, coaching and guidance to showcase their talent and excel in sports,' he said. An Army official, wishing not to be named, said the Varmul Gindo sports festival provided a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills.

Army chief visits Manipur, reviews security & meets guv
1 2 Guwahati: Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Wednesday undertook a day-long visit to Manipur amid continuing unrest in the state to assess the prevailing security situation and review the operational preparedness of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles formations deployed there. Manipur has witnessed ethnic violence since May 2023, primarily between Meitei and Kuki communities, resulting in over 200 deaths and displacement of thousands. While the situation has seen phases of relative calm, sporadic incidents continue to affect public confidence and security. The state is currently under President's rule. A defence spokesperson said during his visit, General Dwivedi was briefed on the ground situation and ongoing initiatives aimed at ensuring peace and security. "The general also reviewed the operational preparedness of troops and lauded their high standards of professionalism, resilience, and dedication under challenging circumstances," the spokesperson said. General Dwivedi later called on governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and discussed matters pertaining to security and development. The ceremony preceding the match featured a vibrant cultural programme and military displays, showcasing Manipur's rich heritage and the pride of the armed forces. General Dwivedi interacted with players and officials of the local favourites NEROCA FC and TRAU FC before the match. The evening also featured aerial and ground displays by Army aviation, band displays, and traditional performances, reflecting a celebration of youth, sports and unity. Jamshedpur, July 29 (UNI) Sanan Mohammed's 52nd-minute strike handed Jamshedpur FC a gritty 1-0 win over Indian Army FT in their Group C clash at the 134th Indian Oil Durand Cup here at the JRD Tata Sports Complex today. This marked Jamshedpur's second consecutive victory in the group stage, taking them to six points from two matches and putting them firmly at the top of the group, with a place in the knockout stage now within touching distance. The match began with Indian Army dominating early exchanges. The Armymen could have been two goals up within the opening 15 minutes, with Samir Murmu's narrow miss and Samananda Singh's wide header both threatening the Jamshedpur goal. Army midfielders Lethaolen Khongsai and P Christopher Kamei controlled the tempo as the hosts struggled to assert themselves.
