Amid the growing calls from fans for driver Austin Hill to be suspended, NASCAR legend and team owner Richard Childress is standing by his guy.
After Hill got into the back of Aric Almirola's No. 19 car in Saturday's Pennzoil 250 in what appeared to be intentional retaliation, the 31-year-old Xfinity wheelman was parked for five laps — a punishment NASCAR hasn't handed down in roughly four years.
"Oh they can go f—k themselves. F—k NASCAR," Hill yelled over on his radio after the hold came down. "That is f—ing bulls—t. I'm f—ing sideways, I go to correct it back to the left, it gets locked to the left, I f—ing run into the 19."
Hill's boss Richard Childress was none too pleased with the powers that be either. Saying emphatically that he doesn't believe his driver should be suspended with some flawed logic at best.
"Hell, no. They didn't do a damn thing to [Austin Cindric] when he wrecked Ty [Dillon] and admitted to it — drove him in the right rear and wrecked him at COTA," Childress said via The Athletic's Jordan Bianchi. "It's who you are. We're a blue-collar team they give us trouble all the time."
Fans weren't exactly in agreement on X:
"As soon as a millionaire starts talking about blue-collar you know its some bulls—t," a user commented.
"Oh f—k off with your blue collar bulls—t Dick," another replied.
"Hooking someone at COTA isn't even remotely the same. There's not really any barriers to hit," a fan pointed out.
"Oh Jesus they really gonna pull that card??" another person asked.
"As an Austin hill fan, he better not be racing next week," another user stated. "I've always said, if you're pissed off, go confront them after the race in the pits, don't use a 3500 pound race car as a weapon. I disagree with you on this one RC."
Despite Childress' claims, Cindric was disciplined by NASCAR to the tune of 50 points and a fine (even if some felt it wasn't steep enough). And most people who watched the race would tell you that there was clear intentionality behind Hill's maneuver and that some form of penalty was coming.
Now its just a matter of whether or not NASCAR wants to make a further example of the Childress-backed No. 21 car after it reviews the race.Fans Hated NASCAR Legend's Response To Austin Hill Controversy first appeared on The Spun on Jul 27, 2025

Mavericks hire Ethan Casson in new role as president under CEO Rick Welts

DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks hired Ethan Casson in a new role as president Tuesday, giving CEO Rick Welts someone to handle daily operations on the business side while he focuses on the franchise's plans for a new arena. Casson was most recently CEO of the Minnesota Timberwolves along with the WNBA's Lynx and the G-League's Iowa Wolves. He served in that role for nine years. The addition of Casson comes seven months after Welts came out of retirement to replace Cynt Marshall, who was hired by then-owner Mark Cuban in the wake of a sexual harassment scandal in the business office of the Mavericks. Cuban sold his majority interest in the club to the Las Vegas-based Adelson and Dumont families in late 2023. Patrick Dumont took over as the team's governor, with Cuban keeping a minority stake and becoming alternate governor. 'The Mavericks are committed to being an elite professional sports franchise, and fundamental to that goal is adding top-tier executives like Ethan Casson to our senior management team,' Dumont said. Welts has said the club hopes to open a new arena in 2031. In his previous role with Golden State, Welts spearheaded the plan that moved the Warriors across the bay to San Francisco from Oakland. The Mavericks share American Airlines Center with the NHL's Dallas Stars, and Welts has said the NBA club anticipates going solo with a new arena. Welts has said the Mavs want the new arena to be in Dallas rather than one of the suburbs. Before joining the Timberwolves, Casson was CEO of the San Francisco 49ers when the NFL franchise made the move to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara from Candlestick Park. Casson struck the naming rights deal with Levi's. 'He will be my partner in charting the team into the future and will allow me to devote more time to our strategic priorities, including the building of our new arena and entertainment district in Dallas, and our transition from a basketball organization to a sports and entertainment company operating our own venue,' Welts said. ___ AP NBA:

NASCAR's Stewart Friesen suffers multiple injuries in dirt racing track crash

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Stewart Friesen was involved in a multi-car crash on a dirt racing track in Quebec, Canada. He sustained multiple fractures to his pelvis and right leg, which required surgery, according to a post on his social media account. Jessica Friesen, Stewart's wife, took to social media to share details from her husband's CT scans. The scans revealed that while competing in a Super DIRTcar Series race at Autodrome Drummond, Stewart suffered an unstable open-book pelvic fracture and a fractured right leg, both of which will require surgery. According to NASCAR, the injuries occurred after Frisen's No. 44 car tipped onto its right side and collided with the end of the outside retaining wall. The impact caused the car to flip and barrel-roll before erupting into flames then being struck by a competitor who was unable to avoid the crash. #NASCAR Truck Series driver #StewartFriesen was involved in a scary accident during Monday night's #DIRTcar Series #KingOfTheNorth race at #AutodromeDrummond in #Canada. Originally developed for defense applications, Kratos' dual-use technologies demonstrate a transformative approach to fleet logistics using automation to address challenges facing commercial logistics, agriculture, energy, and mining sectors vital to national security. 'Deploying automation in a fast-moving, time-critical logistics environment like NASCAR gave us a unique opportunity to show how seamlessly Kratos' technology fits into real-world operations,' said Maynard Factor, VP of Business Development at Kratos. 'Even outside of core industries, we demonstrated that commercial fleets can adopt Kratos' autonomous systems without overhauling their workflows or disrupting day-to-day business proving how practical and scalable this technology is.' Champion Tire & Wheel, a longtime innovator in motorsports logistics, became the first to use automated platooning to deliver equipment to a global racing event. Operating within the NASCAR supply chain, this deployment underscores how automation can strengthen business continuity and drive efficiency across commercial logistics environments. 'This technology provides us options to better manage spikes in the schedule where distance and timing are a challenge,' said Kevin Mahl, President & CEO of Champion Tire & Wheel. 'By pairing a human-driven lead truck with an autonomous follower, we can keep the fleet moving efficiently to the next race venue. With Kratos autonomous systems as a tool to use when needed, we're able to move more equipment, more efficiently, and give ourselves more flexibility in our logistics planning.' With a legacy of delivering high-performance tires and trusted fleet solutions, Goodyear joined the collaboration to demonstrate how advanced tire and vehicle systems can enable next-generation logistics. Goodyear's long-standing presence at the Brickyard 400—dating back to 1994—underscores a dedication to precision and performance across every terrain. 'Goodyear has long stood at the intersection of driving performance and vehicle intelligence—from the racetrack to autonomous innovation,' said Rich Cottrell, Senior Director, Commercial Marketing, Goodyear. 'This deployment connects Goodyear's racing legacy with our premium commercial tire technology and fleet solutions—helping advance performance and uptime for modern logistics. We're proud to support this milestone with Kratos and Champion Tire & Wheel.' The Brickyard 400 deployment also builds on the I-70 Truck Automation Corridor (TAC) program, an active multi-state effort to accelerate the safe integration of automated trucking along key Midwest freight corridors. Led by DriveOhio (Ohio Department of Transportation), the Indiana Department of Transportation, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and other stakeholders, the I-70 TAC program uses Kratos' auto-platooning systems deployed with EASE Logistics to support freight movements along I-70 between Columbus, OH, and Indianapolis, IN with safety riders in each vehicle.
