ASPIRE appointed as UAE Delivery Authority for the Games of the Future: Abu Dhabi 2025
ABU DHABI, UAE, May 29, 2025 /CNW/ -- Phygital International, the global governing body for the Games of the Future (GOTF), has officially announced Abu Dhabi as the Host City for the Games of the Future 2025, taking place from 18-23 December.
Bringing together cutting-edge innovation and elite competition, the Games of the Future will transform Abu Dhabi into the epicenter of phygital sport and feature a dynamic fusion of physical athleticism and immersive digital gaming. The multi-sport event includes a variety of ground-breaking phygital disciplines, including Phygital Football and Phygital Shooter, as well as tech sports and esports.
Each phygital discipline sees athletes first compete in a digital version of their sport, followed by competing in the same sport in real-life. Final results are determined by combining performance across both stages - blending the physical and virtual into one seamless competitive experience.
ASPIRE, the driving force behind grand challenges and global competitions for Abu Dhabi's Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), is appointed as the UAE Delivery Authority. In this role, ASPIRE will lead the delivery of the event's innovation agenda, ensure alignment across multiple stakeholders, and coordinate funding frameworks with government partners and sponsors.
Ethara, the region's leading live event management organization, will serve as the Event Delivery Partner, leading end-to-end execution including venue operations, logistics, and fan experience. In addition, Ethara will drive event promotion and play a key commercial role by securing sponsorships and partnerships to support the event's success. The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) has been confirmed as the official venue, providing a world-class stage for the full spectrum of phygital sporting competitions and fan experiences.

Manfred said representatives of the league and LA28 met Monday, with both sides hoping to work toward an agreement in which major leaguers would play in the Olympics. MLB has declined to stop its season for previous Olympic baseball tournaments, so minor leaguers and college players have participated in those Games. Advertisement But Manfred also warned that any agreement likely would apply only to the L.A. Games, where major leaguers could be done in a week. If baseball remains on the Olympic schedule for Brisbane in 2032, MLB would remain reluctant to shut down for the extended period needed to get players to Australia, allow them to prepare and play, and then return to their major league teams. 'I think that the idea of playing in L.A. in '28, regardless of the possibility of ongoing Olympic participation in another location, that there is some merit to it,' Manfred said at a meeting of the Baseball Writers Assn. of America. Medals for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics unveiled ahead of next year's Games
The medals for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics were unveiled in Venice on Tuesday, 206 days before the games begin. The medals, created by the Italian State Mint and Polygraphic Institute (IPZS), will use recycled metal recovered from production waste, and will be created in induction furnaces powered by renewable energy, organizers explained. The medals are designed with two halves to represent both Olympic and Paralympic values, organizers revealed. Italian athletes Federica Pellegrini, who is a double Olympic medalist and Italy's most successful swimmer, and Francesca Porcellato, the winner of 15 Paralympic medals after appearances in 13 Summer and Winter Games, accompanied the medals by boat to the ceremony at Venice's Palazzo Balbi on the Canal Grande. 'The medals we have created to celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games represent the mastery and excellence of Italian design. Each one is a unique piece, the result of craftsmanship and innovation,' Paolo Perrone, President of the IPZS, said in a statement released by organizers. 'The Milano Cortina 2026 medals place the athlete at the center of the story, expressing the universality of sport, the struggle, and the emotion of victory,' he added. The Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics will take place from February 6-22, followed by the Paralympic Winter Games, scheduled from March 6-15. Next year's Games mark the Winter Olympics' return to Europe, with the event having been hosted by Pyeongchang, South Korea in 2018 and the Chinese city of Beijing staging the Games in 2022. Ski mountaineering, where athletes will ascend and descend a mountain in Bormio, in the Valtellina valley, using a mixture of on foot and on ski techniques, will make its debut at the Games. Italy has twice hosted Winter Olympics in the past – Cortina in 1956 and Turin in 2006 – but it will be the first held in Milan.
