4 Maoists gunned down in encounter with security forces along Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border
The early-morning encounter took place near the village of Kawande, close to the Indravati River, following a coordinated operation by the Gadchiroli Police and the
Central Reserve Police Force
(CRPF).
The mission was launched on Thursday, based on credible intelligence inputs about Maoist activity in the area.
The joint operation, conducted under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police Ramesh and supervised by Superintendent of Police Neelotpal and DIG Ankit Goyal, involved 12 units of the elite C60 commando force and CRPF personnel—around 300 in total.
Despite heavy rain and difficult terrain, the security forces advanced from Kawande and Nelgunda to set up a cordon along the riverbank. On Friday morning, as the search operation intensified, Maoists opened fire on the commandos, prompting a two-hour firefight.
'This operation was marked by strategic precision and remarkable resilience from our forces,' said Inspector General Sandip Patil, who heads Maharashtra's Anti-Maoist Operations unit.

After the encounter, security personnel recovered the bodies of four Maoists, as well as a cache of arms and supplies, including an automatic Self-Loading Rifle, two .303 rifles, a country-made Bharmar firearm, walkie-talkies, camping gear and Maoist literature.
Officials said there were no casualties among the security forces, underscoring the effectiveness of their training and planning. The area remains under surveillance as the search for other Maoist operatives continues.
'This is a major breakthrough,' a senior Gadchiroli Police official told the BBC. 'These Maoists were attempting to destabilise the region. Their elimination sends a strong message that we remain vigilant and committed to securing the area.'
Gadchiroli, located in eastern Maharashtra, has long been affected by Maoist insurgency. Security forces have intensified their operations in recent years, targeting Maoist hideouts and disrupting their supply chains. The recovery of communication equipment and weapons suggests the group was preparing for further action.

Hyderabad ED books Ex-CPWD engineer, wife for laundering funds
HYDERABAD: The Enforcement Directorate, Hyderabad zonal unit has filed a prosecution complaint before the Special PMLA court, Hyderabad against P Sai Komareswar and his wife P Padmavathi under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The court has taken cognisance of the complaint on July 30. The agency initiated investigation on the basis of a chargesheet filed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, CBI, Hyderabad against them for being in possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 1.26 crore (approx). The agency stated that P Sai Komareswar, while working as an executive engineer (electrical), CPWD, Hyderabad was involved in a trap case on the allegations of demand and acceptance of bribes from a contractor to clear his bills. ACB, CBI conducted searches at his residence and several incriminating documents, cash of Rs 30.50 lakh and a locker key were seized.

A witness in his testimony to the special court in the 2008 Malegaon blast case had alleged that he was tortured and forced by the officers of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) to name Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the case. Special Judge A.K. Lahoti, who on Thursday (July 31, 2025) acquitted all seven accused in the case, said he could not rely on the witness's statement to the ATS, as he submitted to the court that it was given involuntarily. 2008 Malegaon blast: Who were the accused? A brief timeline of the case In its more than 1,000-page judgment, made available on Friday (August 1, 2025), the court said the ATS had questioned prosecution witness Milind Joshirao in October 2008 about the functioning of the right-wing group Abhinav Bharat. He was asked about a meeting at the Raigad fort, where the accused had allegedly taken an oath to create a separate Hindu Rashtra. Joshirao, during his testimony to the court, claimed that the ATS had treated him like an accused. 'They (ATS officers) were telling him to take the names of Yogi Adityanath, Asimanand Indresh Kumar, Devdhar, Pragya and Kakaji in his statement,' the court said. 'The ATS officers assured him that if he took their names, they would let him go free,' it added.
