Bahmani fort featured in Mann Ki Baat: What do you know about this historical monument?
Archaeologist Rehman Patel, who has worked extensively on Bahmani monuments, said, 'Instead of mere acknowledgement, concrete steps to restore and preserve the fort will truly honour the Prime Minister's words and help showcase these remarkable monuments to the world.'
Researchers Mohammed Ayazuddin Patel and Mohammed Ismail said that the 14th century Bahmani fort is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which has failed in the upkeep of the monument.
However, they said, simply praising the fort on a national platform will not serve any purpose. Both the Bahmani fort and the Jama Masjid, located within the fort, have been in a state of 'utter neglect for decades'.
The fort houses the second largest mosque in Asia, renowned for its unique architectural features. Despite their historical and cultural significance, the Bahmani fort and the Jama Masjid have been largely ignored by the Archaeology Department for years.
During the rainy season, water leaks from the ceiling of Jama Masjid, which is a matter of concern as it will damage the structure and its artwork. If authorities fail to take up repair and maintenance work immediately, the structural integrity of this architectural marvel may deteriorate further, they stated.
The fort houses the world's longest cannon (Bara Gazi Toph) that measures 29 feet in length and has a circumference of 7.6 feet. This cannon can be a big draw for history buffs and tourists in general, but is not highlighted, they claimed.

PM Modi to visit Varanasi, launch development projects worth Rs 2,200 crore today
New Delhi: In a significant push towards development in his parliamentary constituency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a wide range of development projects worth approximately Rs 2,200 crore. During his visit, PM Modi will address a public gathering at around 11 a.m. and will release the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. In addition, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for several new infrastructure projects including road upgrades in Dalmandi, Lahartara–Kotwa, Gangapur, and Babatpur. New railway overbridges at Level Crossing 22C and Khalispur Yard are also planned to further enhance local transportation facilities. Focusing on improving the city's power infrastructure, the Prime Minister will also launch electricity projects worth over Rs 880 crore. These include the Smart Distribution Project and the undergrounding of overhead electrical cables, which aim to modernise and secure the city's power supply system. Union Cabinet Approves Four Multi-tracking Railway Projects, Here's What PM Modi Says
The decision was taken at CCEA meeting chaired by PM Modi. It will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 574 kilometres. In a significant step which will help decongest the railway network and reduce logistics cost, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Thursday approved four multitracking projects covering 13 districts across six states, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the decision is part ofthe government's efforts to provide next-generation infrastructure. He said these projects will benefit people of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand. 'In a boost to our efforts to provide next-generation infrastructure, 4 major rail projects worth over Rs. 11,100 crore have been approved by the Cabinet," PM Modi said in a post on X. The decision was taken at CCEA meeting chaired by PM Modi. It will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 574 kilometres. The projects are expected to generate direct employment for about 229 lakh human-days during construction. Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw said that the projects include Itarsi – Nagpur fourth line; Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) – Parbhani Doubling; AluabariDangoaposi– Jaroli third and fourth line.
