OCM to break ground on new HQ in July
PETALING JAYA : Groundbreaking for the Olympic Council of Malaysia's new headquarters in Bukit Jalil is expected to get under way at the end of July, says OCM president Norza Zakaria.
OCM's new RM97 million headquarters, dubbed the Olympic House, is expected to take 36 months to construct and will involve two phases.
'We have already received the green light (for the groundbreaking) from the minister (youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh) and the Malaysia Stadium Corporation (PSM),' Norza said in a Harian Metro report.
'From there, we will begin applying to DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) and the local authorities to obtain approval for the construction.'
Norza also said OCM was hoping to cooperate with key stakeholders such as DBKL and PSM to complete the first phase of Olympic House before the 2027 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
He was speaking to reporters at the launch of Malaysia's Olympic Day celebrations at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium today.
Olympic House will be built on a 2.18ha plot of government land next to the National Hockey Stadium and will be modelled after the International Olympic Committee's headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The building's facilities will include a museum, a banquet hall, a media conference room, meeting rooms and several offices for sports associations.

She finished 29th with a total of 240.20 points after five dives. National swimmers Khiew Hoe Yean and Tan Khai Xin also failed to advance in their respective events. Khiew, a two-time SEA Games gold medallist, clocked 50.77s in the men's 100m freestyle to finish seventh in his heat and 50th out of 110 swimmers, while Tan clocked 2m 7.07s in the men's 200m medley to end up ninth in his heat and 40th overall.

Give Jonassen time to produce champions, says Hannah Yeoh
YOUTH and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has urged stakeholders to allow national singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen sufficient time to revitalise Malaysia's badminton squad following their underwhelming display at the 2025 Badminton Asia Junior Championships (BAJC). She emphasised that the ministry has provided full support to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to strengthen the singles division under Jonassen's leadership. 'The new coach has just arrived and has yet to warm his seat to assess their performance properly. So, I feel that he deserves to be given time to evaluate their performance, and produce champions... this is something that cannot be achieved in a month or two,' she said during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Malaysian Women's Amateur Open golf championships at Templer Park Country Club. Hannah's remarks follow concerns raised by national badminton legend Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei, who cautioned against placing excessive short-term expectations on Jonassen, who joined Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) less than a year ago. RAWANG, July 31 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has called on all parties to give national singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen the space and time to get the shuttlers firing again following their lacklustre performance in the 2025 Badminton Asia Junior Championships (BAJC) recently. She said the ministry believes that it has channelled all the necessary support to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to ensure the 51-year-old coach can help improve the singles department. 'The new coach has just arrived and has yet to warm his seat to assess their performance properly.
