Newport drugs boss went on the run to Colombia jailed
The defendant recruited his mother Helga Boehm and father-in-law Andrew Harris, of High Street, Cinderford, Gloucestershire to work for him.
His friend and co-conspirator Matthew Nicholas, of Waltwood Park Drive, Llanmartin Newport would travel to Spain to meet him.
Harris' co-defendants were jailed for more than 30 years in January 2024.
Kathryn Lane, prosecuting, said: 'This defendant was at the top of this organised crime group – he was at the heart of the operation.
'He had close links to the original source of the drugs.'
Harris, of High Street, Cinderford admitted conspiracy to supply cocaine and conspiracy to supply ketamine.
The offences took place between September 15, 2020 and New Year's Day in 2022.
The defendant gave himself up after travelling on a German passport from Colombia to Spain where he was arrested before being extradited to the UK
He has eight previous convictions for 13 offences and one which was relevant.
In 2013, he was handed a referral order for supplying cannabis.
Harris' barrister Julia Cox said the best mitigation she could put forward was that his client had pleaded guilty.
She added that the defendant has a four-year-old daughter he will miss growing up.
Judge Lucy Crowther told Harris: 'You were the head of this organised crime group and you dragged your own mother into this.
'You had a significant influence on everyone else.'
She added that by fleeing, he had 'abandoned' his mother and daughter.
Harris was jailed for eight years and eight months.
He is due to face a proceeds of crime hearing on September 11.
The prosecution has also applied that a serious crime prevention order be imposed on him.

'We might end up with somebody that has no discernible political opinion in any manner at this point because if they're free and they could play on Saturday, maybe that is the criteria that we're looking for at this stage.' Irish rap trio Kneecap, whose member Liam Og O hAnnaidh, also known as Mo Chara, appeared in court in June charged with a terror offence, performed on the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury after Bob Vylan. The duo have had their US visas revoked before their tour later this year and have been pulled from an upcoming performance at a German music festival, following their appearance at Glastonbury. They are currently expected to perform at the Boardmasters surfing and music festival in Newquay, Cornwall, in August. The group was formed in Ipswich in 2017, and are known for addressing political issues in their albums including racism, masculinity and class.
