Legado: Michelin-starred Nieves Barragán to open new Spanish restaurant in Shoreditch

Yahoo17-07-2025
The latest high-profile restaurant to open in the new Shoreditch development under the Overground line is Legado, a new Spanish concept from Nieves Barragán Mohacho and JKS Restaurants.
Legado, which means 'legacy', is next door to the new Singburi, while the Standard understands another big opening is planned nearby (we cannot say yet, but hold tight).
Barragán is best known for her Michelin-starred Mayfair restaurant Sabor, a multi-floor restaurant that spans Spain's regional cuisine.
Legado, the Standard was told, 'is set to move beyond the familiar, allowing the wider ingredients, lesser-known dishes, regional culinary traditions and the Spanish artisans to take centre stage.'
The 60-cover restaurant – with a further 16 at the counter – will serve tapas and pintxos that shine a light on specific producers, ingredients and Spanish traditions.
Lamb, for example, will come from Lechazo de Castilla y León (an origin-protected producer), while suckling pig is to be sourced from the award-winning farm Tabladillo el Cochinillo in Segovia, a province north of Madrid,
Fish will be treated much the same, with a menu that traverses Spanish coastlines. Dishes are to include crystal Mediterranean prawns with smoked paprika and Moscatel vinegar, and confit lobster with chilli and garlic served on a base of thinly sliced potatoes. Both will come topped with a runny fried egg.
As for vegetarian dishes, the most interesting could be the 'Legado sandwich', made with Swiss chard, cecina, and smoked cheese fried in breadcrumbs, which Barragán remembers her grandmother making for her in the Basque region.
'Spain's food heritage is incredible and has rightly deserved recognition in London and globally,' she said.
'Its colours, tastes, and smells are rooted deeply within me. However, many dishes I love, I have never seen outside the country and want to bring them and even more to London.'
As for wines, diners should expect a 150-bin list celebrating Spanish vintages, and 'seasonally changing vegetable and fruit-based cocktails served chilled but without ice.' There will be three-sip drinks, short drinks being the fashion in London right now.
The restaurant will look Spanish and modern – think a colour palette of green, plaster pink and terracotta – with exposed brick, an open kitchen and lots of beautiful wood.
Legado opens on August 28, 1C Montacute Yards, 185-186 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6HU, jksrestaurants.com

Pubisher and Spider-Man Set to Clash in Reported Major Action Scene For SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY — GeekTyrant

The web-slinger is about to go head-to-head with Marvel's most brutal vigilante. With production kicking off on Spider-Man: Brand New Day in Glasgow, Scotland, new intel teases a major confrontation between Spider-Man and The Punisher . According to insider Daniel Richtman, fans can expect a high-stakes brawl involving a Department of Damage Control (DODC) convoy. "I heard that tomorrow they'll be filming a big action scene with Punisher and Spider-Man fighting over a DODC transport convoy," Richtman revealed. If Frank Castle is gunning for someone in that transport, it's likely someone he sees as deserving his lethal brand of justice. Naturally, Peter Parker won't let that happen on his watch. This DODC connection ties neatly into what we've seen in previous MCU Spider-Man films, where the organization has played a significant role in cleanup and containment. The presence of their convoy implies whatever or whoever they're transporting is a big deal. So who's in the crosshairs? Rumors range from Bruce Banner to Mister Negative, or even a smaller-time threat like Boomerang. Recent set photos show a military-style vehicle that might be DODC property. Some fans have pointed out a devilish logo on the side, which could hint at Mister Negative's Inner Demons making an appearance. Word is The Punisher will be behind the wheel of one of these armored rides. As filming kicks off, early reports suggest rehearsals are happening ahead of a full shoot on Sunday. So while we haven't seen Tom Holland in costume just yet, it's only a matter of time before Spidey swings into action. We did get a tease of the costume, though! And while bringing The Punisher into Spider-Man's world is a big and exciting move, don't hold your breath for Charlie Cox's Daredevil to join the mix just yet. That team-up might be off the table for now. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters July 31, 2026.

Man Utd club shop bans supporters from printing names of legendary trio on back of shirts due to key licensing issue

Fans cannot print name of three legends on their shirt United do not own player trademarks Sign at club shop informs confused fans Follow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱 WHAT HAPPENED? Reported by Manchester Evening News, the three players in question are legendary No. 7s Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and Eric Cantona. United do not own the trademark to any of the trio of former players' names, which means they are not licensed to print them on the back of shirts. THE BIGGER PICTURE The report states that this has been the case for several years and not just at United, as Real Madrid do not have the rights to print the legendary Ronaldo's name either, despite his status as one of the club's greatest-ever players. With this in mind, the recent craze around retro football shirts makes sense as it gives fans the chance to sport the names of their favourite players from the past on their backs, on shirts which were printed at a time when the player in question was at the club. In the case of Ronaldo, Beckham and Cantona, these shirts must be very rare to find indeed. WHAT FANS HAVE SAID United fans expressed their confusion at the licensing rule on social media. One fan said on X: "That's really weird." "Modern football just gets weirder," another added. A third said: "What if I call my son Beckham and he wants his own name on his shirt?" Another stated: "How can you copyright a name lol I'm pretty sure there's more people with those names." WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD? The Red Devils face Everton and Fiorentina in their final pair of pre-season fixtures before Mikel Arteta's Arsenal visit Old Trafford on August 17. Ruben Amorim's side will be looking for a major improvement on their unprecedented struggles last campaign and may look to complete further transfer business before the campaign gets underway.

Did anyone win £145m EuroMillions jackpot tonight?

A whopping £145m EuroMillions jackpot was up for grabs this week - but did anybody win? The estimated jackpot of £145,000,000 was waiting for the lucky player who matched all five numbers plus the two lucky stars in the draw, which took place at 8:30pm on Friday (August 1). It's a big week for the National Lottery, as players have been warned of a planned 36-hour outage taking place this weekend. From 11pm on Saturday (August 2), until "late Monday morning", all draw game sales and prize claims will be paused in shops across the UK. READ MORE: EuroMillions results LIVE: Lottery numbers for £145m draw on Friday, August 1 READ MORE: Asda to introduce one-day 'ban' across 10 UK stores National Lottery operator Allwyn has confirmed that the 36-hour outage this weekend is to make way for the biggest technology upgrade in the game's 31-year history. But that outage didn't affect the EuroMillions draw on Friday and nor should it affect the Lotto draw on Saturday. In June, one lucky ticket holder from Ireland won a staggering €250m in a EuroMillions draw, making them the biggest National Lottery winner ever. Since then, nobody has won the estimated jackpots, and it has gradually built back up week-by-week until Friday (August 1) when it reached £145m. Prior to the €250m EuroMillions win, the biggest National Lottery winner was an anonymous ticket-holder who scooped £195m in July 2022. Did anyone win the £145m EuroMillions jackpot? After a slight delay on Friday night, the winning numbers were finally drawn slightly later than usual. They were 04, 16, 25, 29, 30. The lucky stars are: 02, 10. However no one managed to win tonight's prize - meaning it will rollover again with an even bigger jackpot on Tuesday. Three players did manage to match five numbers and one lucky star, and 14 people the five main numbers.
