‘Risky Business' star Rebecca De Mornay praises ex Tom Cruise: ‘I'm really proud of him'
The actress, 65, praised her former co-star during an exclusive interview with Page Six published Saturday, July 19.
'I'm really proud of him,' De Mornay said while promoting her new 'Saint Claire' thriller. 'I'm really, really proud of him.'

'Risky Business,' which was both De Mornay and Cruise's breakout film, was released in 1983.
The coming-of-age teen comedy sees high schooler Joel Goodsen (Cruise) fall for prostitute Lana (De Mornay) while his parents are away on vacation.
After first meeting on the set of the classic movie in 1982, De Mornay and the 'Mission: Impossible' star dated in real life for nearly three years.

De Mornay now likens Cruise, 63, to a 'major chord,' whereas she is a 'minor chord.'
'He's like, 'I am Top Gun and that's what America really wanted,' and so he's fulfilled it,' she explained. 'He is a brilliant, brilliant interpreter of what the zeitgeist is.'
'I'm really, really proud of knowing him from when we were in the suburbs of Chicago and knowing what he wanted and where it is now,' the actress added. 'We started this together, and look what he did with it.'

Following the success of 'Risky Business,' Cruise went on to star in not just in the blockbuster 'Mission: Impossible' and 'Top Gun' franchises but also hit films like 'A Few Good Men,' 'Jerry Maguire' and 'Eyes Wide Shut.'
As for De Mornay, she has appeared in 'The Hand That Rocks the Cradle' and 'The Slugger's Wife.'
'Saint Claire,' the actress' latest movie that also stars Bella Thorne and Ryan Phillippe, is perhaps De Mornay's grittiest project yet.

Thorne portrays a serial killer who murders misbehaving men, and De Mornay admitted that the script impressed her.
'It's very rare that I read scripts about a female serial killer who's obsessed with Joan of Arc, which I thought was just brilliant,' she told Page Six. 'I just wanted to be a support to this project.'
Meanwhile, De Mornay's praise for Cruise comes amid rumors that the 'Cocktail' actor is dating Hollywood starlet Ana de Armas.

The pair first sparked romance rumors in February, and they were most recently spotted enjoying time together on a yacht in Menorca, Spain.
However, insiders close to the 37-year-old 'Knives Out' actress have insisted that Armas is single and simply preparing for a project she and Cruise are working on together.
'Tom is crazy hardworking, and she's very excited to work with him,' a source told People on July 18. 'She calls it an opportunity of a lifetime.'
'Tom is an incredible mentor to Ana,' they added. 'She has nothing but amazing things to say about him.'

Barbenheimer's Epic Double Feature Happened 2 Years Ago, And I'm Worried I'll Never Get That Same Experience
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Back in 2023, there was a time when it felt as if all was right with the world, and that, my friends, was Barbenheimer. While the 2025 movie schedule has been filled to the brim with great releases, I really don't think we're going to get another time like this, and that worries me. It's been two years. I know, it's hard to believe it, but it has, and it honestly feels like a lifetime at this point. We have had some major releases come out since then, such as the latest Superman, which turned me into a fan. Or we could point to Wicked, which took over the world for a month or two. However, nothing has hit quite as hard as when these two films – Barbie and Oppenheimer – were released simultaneously. And honestly, I don't think we're going to get another instance like this, at least for a long time. Barbenheimer Was Perfectly Timed During The Summer I think a big reason why Barbenheimer was such a success was that both of these releases were planned at the perfect time – right in the middle of summer. I always feel that the most successful blockbusters tend to happen at this point, and it's clear both of these, by their box office amounts, did incredibly well. Barbie earned well over $1 billion, and Oppenheimer came really close to the mark, as did a rated-R movie. However, because many people had a day off or two during this time, seeing the double feature was that much easier. The Amount Of Marketing For Both Was Done Amazingly Well And Spawned An Era Unlike Any Other Another significant factor contributing to this success is that the marketing teams were on point. We all already knew Christopher Nolan's best films. We were all already aware of the pull Barbie had as a toy. However, the fact that these two were eventually marketed together as a double feature paved the way for its success. They had their marketing – it was practically pink mania for months with Barbie. However, I think it worked best when people combined the films into one prominent double feature, allowing fans to dress up for each and go out with their friends, making it a whole event rather than just an outing or a date. That's the key in marketing here. The Fanbases Somehow Collided In A Way Unlike Ever Before, And I Don't Think We'll Get That Again The beauty of this is that Barbenheimer is special. Something like this has happened before, where two totally conflicting genres released major films on the same day – The Dark Knight and Mamma Mia!, a movie I rewatch all the time – but that was never as grand an event. The same thing happened with the release of Wicked and Gladiator, and how marketing teams tried to make it the new Barbenheimer, but it just didn't work – even if both films did very well. I think Barbenheimer is a one-and-done, and that does sadden me. There was something so…magical about this time, as cheesy as that sounds. The idea of two completely different fan bases coming together to celebrate films, in two totally different styles, is something that I will always love and never forget. The hype that led up to this made it even more enjoyable, and attending the double feature with my friends and a crowd of people who just loved movies was unlike any other. Maybe one day we'll get another Barbenheimer. But you know what? I'm happy with it living in my memory, even if I feel that we're never going to get another time like this one. 'Fantastic Four' wins battle of heroes at N. America box office
"The Fantastic Four: First Steps," Disney's hotly anticipated reboot of the Marvel Comics superhero franchise, conquered the North American weekend box office, earning $118 million and sidelining "Superman," industry estimates showed Sunday. "Fantastic Four" -- starring actor-of-the-moment Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Emmy winner Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn ("Stranger Things') -- tells the story of a team of heroes trying to save a retro-futuristic world from the evil Galactus. "This is an outstanding opening," said David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research. "'Fantastic Four' was a modest and struggling superhero series; it just caught up with the biggest and the best." "Superman," the latest big-budget action film featuring the iconic superhero from Warner Bros. and DC Studios, slipped to second place at $24.9 million, Exhibitor Relations said. That puts the global take of the film, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, over the $500 million mark. "Jurassic World: Rebirth" -- the latest installment in the blockbuster dinosaur saga -- finished in third place at $13 million. Its worldwide total stands at $672.5 million. The Universal film, starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali, takes viewers to an abandoned island research facility, where secrets -- and genetically mutated dinosaurs -- are lurking. "F1: The Movie," the Apple and Warner Bros. flick starring Brad Pitt as a washed-up Formula One driver who gets one last shot at redemption, moved up to fourth place at $6.2 million. "Smurfs," the latest film featuring the adorable blue creatures and starring Rihanna as Smurfette, slipped to fifth place in only its second week in theaters with $5.4 million in North American ticket sales. "The box office is on an excellent run that started two weeks ago," Gross said. "These are not the good old days, but 'Fantastic Four' and 'Superman' are performing extremely well. Superheroes are showing some swagger, and it's good news for the industry." Rounding out the top 10 were: "I Know What You Did Last Summer" ($5.1 million) "How to Train Your Dragon" ($2.8 million) "Eddington" ($1.7 million) "Saiyaara" ($1.3 million) "Oh, Hi!" ($1.1 million) bur-sst/ksb
