Where Clemson players rank in PFF's update 2025 NFL Draft Big Board
Four Clemson players have earned spots on Pro Football Focus' latest Top 300 NFL Draft Big Board, though not all are currently projected to be drafted in a national seven-round mock. Still, their inclusion on the list highlights the Tigers' continued presence in the NFL pipeline — even in a draft class that may not feature a first-round name.
Barrett Carter leads the way among Clemson prospects, ranked No. 133 overall. The athletic linebacker has long been seen as a high-upside player thanks to his speed and versatility. PFF's Trevor Sikkema believes Carter could be a valuable weapon at the next level — if he can bulk up.
'While he needs to get stronger, Carter is an athletic, versatile defender who can be a valuable chess piece for a defense as a weakside linebacker,' Sikkema wrote.
Tight end Jake Briningstool checks in next at No. 158, and evaluators continue to see him as more of a hybrid receiving threat than a traditional tight end. His receiving ability has been on display throughout his Clemson career, and he projects as a mismatch option in the passing game.
'Briningstool seems to be more of a wide receiver than a tight end,' Sikkema said. 'If he can improve his route-running nuance and playmaker mentality after the catch, he could become a big slot WR3 type. Until then, he is more of a developmental depth player.'
Two more Tigers appear further down the rankings. Safety R.J. Mickens comes in at No. 240, and running back Phil Mafah follows at No. 260. Mickens was a steady presence in the secondary and brings experience and positional flexibility. Mafah, meanwhile, is a physical runner who closed out the 2024 season strong after taking on a bigger workload.
Although all four players made the Top 300, only three Clemson players are projected to be drafted in one recent national seven-round mock — a reminder of how competitive the late rounds can be. Still, all four are expected to draw NFL interest, whether it's on draft weekend or as priority free agents shortly after.
While this year's group may not be as headline-grabbing as past Clemson draft classes, there's plenty of talent on the board. Carter, Briningstool, Mickens, and Mafah each bring something unique to the table — and all four have the chance to find a home at the next level.

CBS Sports breaks down the best, worst-case scenarios for Clemson football in 2025
CBS Sports recently broke down how the 2025 season could unfold for Clemson, mapping out the high and low ends for what Dabo Swinney's program might achieve this fall as part of an ACC-wide preview. After a strong spring, Clemson is heading into the season with lofty expectations and plenty of national buzz. CBS Sports' Chip Patterson laid out just how good things could get if everything falls into place, describing a scenario where the Tigers run the table and make a serious push for another College Football Playoff appearance. 'An opening win against LSU sets the tone for an absolute war machine year, as Dabo Swinney's Tigers celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first CFP appearance with their eighth playoff march,' Patterson wrote. He noted that those early projections of multiple first-round NFL Draft picks would be validated if 'Cade Klubnik stars with a stellar group of receivers (a couple of whom aren't draft eligible until 2027) and the defense shines under the leadership of new defensive coordinator Tom Allen.' However, Clemson's floor in 2025, according to Patterson, looks a lot like how last season wrapped up — solid but shy of the ultimate goal. 'Offseason hype falls flat. Clemson wins a lot of games, but gets tripped up enough to limit any chance of making the CFP as an at-large team. The Tigers are good enough to get off the bus, tie their shoes and win most of the games on their schedule but the season ends with little satisfaction as they come up short in the biggest games of the year,' he wrote. No other ACC team received quite as high of a ceiling as Clemson's perfect regular season. Miami and SMU were both given a possible 11-1 record if they perform at their best, while Louisville could push for 10-2. Florida State's outlook remains unpredictable after its dramatic drop from 13-1 in 2023 to 2-10 in 2024, with CBS projecting anything from 5-7 to 9-3 for the Seminoles. If Clemson wants to reach its best-case scenario, it will need everything to click — from Klubnik's leadership to Tom Allen's impact on defense — and prove that last season's stumbles were only temporary. Steelers Rank As Top Landing Spot for $100 Million Dallas Cowboys Ex
Steelers Rank As Top Landing Spot for $100 Million Dallas Cowboys Ex originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers have Aaron Rodgers and they have DK Metcalf and after that? With their trade-away of George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, it can be argued that they need more than just a body to complete their receivers room. Advertisement Maybe somebody in the group of Calvin Austin and Robert Woods and Roman Wilson will jump out as the candidate to join Metcalf? Or maybe, as folks continue to push, maybe Amari Cooper is the answer. Cooper has got critics who think he's "done.'' And Cooper is on the open market for a reason, still, after a rough go with the Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills last season ... and of course, after he was famously trade-dumped by the Dallas Cowboys before that. His problem, as they termed it in Dallas, is "shrinkage.'' Amari - while being a five-time Pro Bowler - does not consistently find ways to come up big in big moments. Nor, by reputation, does he fight through adversity, including minor injuries. Advertisement But still ... that push just won't stop. From SportsCasting's Dan Girolamo's list of potential landing spots for Cooper ... "Outside of Metcalf, the Steelers' receiving corps is average at best. Robert Woods, Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller, and Ben Skowronek will be in the running for snaps. If Cooper signs with the Steelers, he'd immediately be in the mix to be the No. 2 receiver behind Metcalf.'' "In the mix''? Maybe. Is that what the Steelers need? Someone who was once a $100 million receiver but who now - by the writer's own admission - only projects to be "in the mix'' with the likes of Ben Skowronek and Scotty Miller? Advertisement Cooper is almost 31 years old. If he signed anywhere - and it's telling that he hasn't - it'll be his fourth team in four years. He had the worst year of his career in 2024, as he posted career lows in catches (44), yards (547), and touchdowns (four) and struggled to find snaps with Josh Allen's Buffalo Bills, who essentially benched him when the going got rough in playoffs. The Steelers need help. They don't need "in the mix.'' Related: Shrinkage? Again? Ravens Ex Announces Bold Claim on Aaron Rodgers' Steelers
Ravens Ex Announces Bold Claim on Aaron Rodgers' Steelers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After months of speculation, veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers finally decided to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he will have a very solid group of weapons around him. Advertisement And one former NFL player had a very bold take about Rodgers' new teammates. On a recent episode of ESPN's Get Up, former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Bart Scott had something to say about the Steelers' wide receiver group, and it is quite the positive claim. "This is the best group of receivers that we've seen him with in a long time," Scott said. "He has an established receiver. We've seen what he's done with the guys like Greg Jennings and the Jordy Nelsons. He's been a guy that has created and made people's careers that we've never heard of." While that last part may be true, but it may be a but premature to say that this is among the best wide receiver groups the 41-year-old field general has ever had. Advertisement Even though the team was not as successful as many would have expected, Rodgers had quite the group of guys just this past season with the New York Jets. With young stud Garrett Wilson on one side, and future Hall of Famer Davante Adams on the other, it made for quite the wide receiver duo. D.K. Metcalf and the rest of the Steelers' weapons will be looking to prove this season that they are in fact some of the best receivers that Rodgers has ever played with.
