Phillies' Bryce Harper cursed at commissioner in heated clubhouse meeting, per report
An irate Harper reportedly got in Manfred's face and told him to 'get the f– out of our clubhouse' if he wanted to discuss such a sensitive economic issue.
Manfred replied that he was 'not going to get the f– out of here,' insisting it was important to talk about threats to the league's business and ways to grow the game, sources told ESPN.
Other players tried to defuse the situation and Harper and Manfred shook hands after the meeting, but Harper would not answer calls from Manfred the next day, per the report. The meeting was also reported last week by The Bandwagon.
'It was pretty intense, definitely passionate,' Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos told ESPN. 'Both of 'em. The commissioner giving it back to Bryce and Bryce giving it back to the commissioner. That's Harp. He's been doing this since he was 15 years old. It's just another day. I wasn't surprised.'
Harper, 32, is one of the game's most influential players as a two-time National League Most Valuable Player and an eight-time All-Star.
The collective-bargaining agreement between MLB and the MLB Players Association expires on 1 December, 2026. Many owners have pushed for a salary cap, as MLB is the only major men's sport in North America without one. Players are opposed, raising the specter of a potential work stoppage ahead of the 2027 season.
'Rob seems to be in a pretty desperate place on how important it is to get this salary cap because he's floating the word lockout two years in advance of our collective bargaining agreement (expiration),' Castellanos said. 'That's nothing to throw around. That's the same thing as me saying in a marriage, 'I think divorce is a possibility. It's probably going to happen.' You don't just say those things.'
Harper and Manfred both declined comment to ESPN. The visit with the Phillies was one of 30 that Manfred holds annually in an effort to improve his relations with each team and its players.

Hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that.' Asked about Fernandes's comments, Ruben Amorim said: 'I think I'm happy for the players to have that feeling. It's saying that they understand the situation. So, it's a good feeling. 'I think the momentum of the tour was perfect. We had the weeks to work with a good environment, good feeling, and then we go back to Carrington and we are near to start the season. We are going with the feeling that we need to do a lot of things [better].' RASMUS HOJLUND furiously lashed out at the goalpost after being snubbed for a pass by teammate Patrick Dorgu. Hojlund was incensed by Dorgu's decision to ignore his run at the back post in the late stages of Manchester United's 2-2 pre-season draw with Everton on Sunday night. 8 8 8 8 8 The Red Devils failed to win for the first time during their pre-season tour of the USA as they twice blew a lead in a feisty friendly with Everton in Atlanta, Georgia. And Hojlund was certainly feeling fiery as he angrily kicked the upright and screamed towards teammate Dorgu when he wasn't picked out for a pass in the 86th minute. With the score tied at 2-2, Hojlund had made a darting run to the back post while Dorgu carried the ball inside the box. The striker was looking for a square pass for Dorgu to set up a simple tap-in, but the full-back chose to ignore his vocal plea for an assist and went for goal himself - ultimately seeing his effort saved with relative ease by Jordan Pickford. Hojlund clearly felt that he would have had a guaranteed goal had Dorgu squared him the ball, as he furiously kicked the goal post and began to scream in Dorgu's direction. However fans seemed to think Dorgu had made the right decision, backing the 20-year-old's decision and suggesting the option for a pass was cut off by Everton defenders. One wrote: "Dorgu made the right play. The pass wasn't there." While another added: "Hojlund made the wrong run. Tigers' Casey Mize looks for turnaround effort vs. Twins
August 4 - Casey Mize pitched well enough during his first 15 starts to be named an American League All-Star. The Detroit Tigers right-hander will be looking to regain that form when he starts against the visiting Minnesota Twins on Monday night. Mize (9-4, 3.43 ERA) is coming off three subpar outings. He gave up six runs in three innings against the Seattle Mariners just prior to the All-Star break, then allowed five runs (four earned) and 10 hits in four innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 22. He didn't get very far on Tuesday, as manager A.J. Hinch pulled him after 1 2/3 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mize permitted two runs (one earned) and three hits while walking three, striking out two and throwing 59 pitches. "That's three in a row that weren't good at all," Mize said. "(Against Arizona), just not near enough strikes. I'm in a bit of a funk right now that I am going to work really hard to get out of." Hinch said, "The concern was the (nearly) 60 pitches in less than two innings. He just couldn't get a feel for the strike zone. I know his routine was disrupted (by a minor knee injury), but I looked at the numbers on the board and the power was there. That told me all I needed to know about his well-being. "It was the lack of strikes and the long at-bats and the three walks in a short stint. He didn't have it (Tuesday)." Mize is 2-4 with a 4.91 ERA in nine career starts against the Twins. He is 1-1 with a 4.38 ERA in two starts against them this season. Minnesota hadn't listed a starter for the Monday game. On Sunday, the Twins recorded their first victory since their trade-deadline fire sale, edging the Cleveland Guardians 5-4. The Twins scored four runs in the first inning, including a two-run single from Trevor Larnach, and held off the Guardians' late charge. "There is no other choice but to put your head down, work and move on," Larnach said, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "I thought we've done a good job doing that." Minnesota outfielder Austin Martin led off the game with a single and scored the first run. He was one of eight players called up from Triple-A Saint Paul on Friday following the front office's flurry of trades. "Our guys battled real good today," manager Rocco Baldelli said after the Sunday contest. "Came out swinging, it was great to start a game like that. It's a great way to kind of set the tempo. ...
