How much does Aaron Donald remember about his 2nd career game? Just about everything
Donald could even name the Rams' entire starting defense in that game
When it comes to football, Sean McVay has the memory of an elephant. Aaron Donald might not be far behind his former head coach, though.
At his football camp recently, Donald was put to the test with trivia questions about the Rams' win over the Buccaneers…in Week 2 of the 2014 season, Donald's rookie year. That was nearly 11 years ago, but Donald remembers just about everything from that game.
Granted, it was a meaningful one for the future Hall of Famer because it was not only his first win in the NFL, but he also recorded his first of 111 career sacks. Donald finished with a perfect score in this trivia exercise, naming everything from the starting quarterbacks in that game to the final score – and, most impressively, the entire starting defense for St. Louis.
That was a forgettable season for the Rams, who went 6-10 and had "a million different quarterbacks that year," as Donald aptly put it. It was memorable for Donald, however, considering he won Defensive Rookie of the Year and began his rapid ascent to becoming the best defensive tackle of his era.
He's a football junkie like McVay so it's hardly surprising he remembers the first quarterback he ever sacked, but to recall the entire starting defense and final score is quite impressive.

Arizona Cardinals DL Calais Campbell one of 10 outstanding late-career veterans in NFL
Few players have played as well for as long as Calais Campbell. It is said that the NFL is a young man's game. It is a league where players in their 20s thrive and few last long into their 30s. The Arizona Cardinals spent the last two seasons actively getting younger. But there are exceptions. PFF featured 10 aging veterans who are still playing at a high level. The Cardinals have one of those players — defensive line Calais Campbell. Aside from quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco, Calais Campbell (who turns 39 years old in September) is the oldest active player in the NFL. The Dolphins were one of the league's biggest disappointments last year, starting the season 2-6, but Campbell still played in all 17 games, ranking first among interior defenders with an 85.9 PFF run-defense grade. Campbell signed with the Arizona Cardinals in free agency and will finish out his Hall-of-Fame career back where it started in 2008. His leadership will be valuable for an improving defensive line, most notably 16th-overall pick Walter Nolen. When Campbell left the Cardinals in 2017, he was a solid player. No one had the Hall of Fame connected to him. He had a couple of great years in Jacksonville and has steadily produced for almost two decades. At no point in his career has he been considered one of the top four or five defensive linemen in the NFL. But with 14 seasons with at least five sacks, he now has 110.5 for his career. He has talked a lot about leadership and mentoring this offseason, but there is no mistaking the fact that he can still play. NFL LB unit rankings: Arizona Cardinals near bottom of the league
The offseason of lists and rankings continues as we wait for training camps to begin. These rankings are from PFF, lining up the linebacker units for all 32 NFL teams. As this is one unit the Arizona Cardinals have questions in, you can imagine that they don't rank highly. NFL linebacker rankings: Arizona Cardinals Not only are the Cardinals not ranked highly, they come in near the bottom of the league at No. 29, with only three teams below them. The Cardinals have invested a plethora of resources in their defense this offseason, and the linebacker position is no exception. Former Bengal Akeem Davis-Gaither arrives after posting a 59.0 PFF overall grade in Cincinnati last season. He's projected to start alongside Mack Wilson Sr., who earned a 63.8 PFF overall grade in 2024. Veterans Owen Pappoe and Mykal Walker project as depth, along with fourth-round rookie Cody Simon, but this unit may struggle to hold things together behind what should be an improved defensive line. Advertisement The Cardinals' linebackers don't inspire optimism outside of the building. Wilson became a starter last year after years of special teams and being a rotational player. Davis-Gaither has only 11 career starts, seven last season replacing Logan Wilson after he was injured. But Cardinals linebackers do put up numbers, and with a beefed up defensive line, maybe they don't need to be great. They just need to tackle effectively. NFL LB unit rankings: Where Arizona Cardinals opponents rank
The offseason of lists and rankings continues as we wait for training camps to begin. These rankings are from PFF, lining up the linebacker units for all 32 NFL teams. We know that the Arizona Cardinals' group is not highly rated, but what about their 2025 opponents? Advertisement Let's have a look at the opposing linebacker units they will face. NFL LB unit rankings: 2025 Arizona Cardinals opponents Analysis The Cardinals' unit is No. 29 overall, but that won't impact their performance against their opponents' linebackers. That's something for the offense to pay attention to. They will face only three top-10 units in four games (49ers, Saints, Jags). They face eight bottom-10 units in 10 games (they have two games each against the Rams and Seahawks). Considering the Cardinals' run game and how good tight end Trey McBride is, they should see a good amount of success against these opponents, should these rankings hold true to form.
