India markets regulator allows Jane Street to resume trading, sources say

Zawya21-07-2025
India's markets regulator has allowed Jane Street to restart trading after the U.S. high-frequency trading firm deposited $567 million, two sources aware of the matter said on Monday.
The regulator sent an email to the firm on Friday in which it said that following the deposit of the money the restrictions imposed by its interim order are no longer applicable, said the sources who declined to be named because they are not authorised to speak to media.
In an interim order issued on July 3, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) had barred the firm from buying and selling securities in the Indian market and froze $567 million of its funds. Jane Street could resume trading if an equivalent amount was deposited in an account that gives the regulator rights over the money until its investigation is complete, the order stated.
Email queries sent to Jane Street and SEBI were not answered immediately.
The country's stock exchanges, the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd and BSE Ltd., have been directed to closely monitor the activity of the U.S.-based quant trading firm, the sources said.
The two exchanges are yet to facilitate Jane Street's buying and selling of Indian securities, said one of the sources.
"While the firm has been allowed to resume trading in India, it has given an undertaking to SEBI that it will not trade in options. The firm also does not intend to trade in cash till it has explained its trades to SEBI," the second source said.

Some airlines benefit from a weaker US dollar: IATA

Airlines marginally benefited in the first half of 2025 as the US dollar depreciated by 7% against its trading partners' currencies, according to an IATA report. Jet fuel is airlines' largest cost component (closely matched by labor costs), and it is usually traded in US dollars. The price of jet fuel has also fallen in 2025, by approximately 6% over the first six months, allowing for a combined savings of roughly 12% on the fuel bill for non-USD-based carriers, equating to a reduction in total costs of around 3%, the report said. Other dollar-linked costs, such as maintenance and repairs, payments for aircraft, and interest on dollar-priced loans, also became cheaper for non-dollar-based carriers. In 2024, maintenance represented around 8% of operating costs, while aircraft ownership, including leasing and depreciation, accounted for about 11%. The overall impact on operating expenses of the lower fuel price and the weaker USD as it pertains to these dollar-denominated cost components is approximately 4.5% during the first half of 2025, on average, for non-dollar-based carriers. The Chinese yuan and the Indian rupee remained virtually unchanged against the dollar, excluding them from the benefits of the general dollar decline. The Turkish lira and the Argentine peso are at the losing end of the spectrum, having depreciated by 11% and 14% against the dollar, respectively. All the bills' carriers in those countries that pay in US dollars will increase accordingly, in local currency terms. 2025 © All right reserved for Oman Establishment for Press, Publication and Advertising (OEPPA) Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. Karisma Kapoor not involved in late ex-husband Sunjay Kapur's inheritance, say sources

Days after swirling reports suggested that Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor was seeking a share in the estate of her late ex-husband Sunjay Kapur, sources close to the actress have shut down the speculation. Karisma, who was married to the late industrialist from 2003 to 2016, has 'no involvement or stake' in the property or inheritance matters following his untimely demise, clarified insiders close to the actress. 'She is not involved in any inheritance or property-related matters in any way. The children are the rightful heirs and will receive what is due to them. Karisma's focus right now is only the well-being of her children,' the source said, as quoted by ETimes. The clarification comes amid heightened media scrutiny and social media chatter about the distribution of Sunjay Kapur's assets after his sudden death on June 12, 2025, during a polo match in London. While Karisma has been entirely uninvolved, tensions appear to be rising within the Kapur household. In a fresh development, Priya Sachdev Kapur — Sunjay's second wife — was officially appointed as a non-executive director at Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd. (Sona Comstar) following a shareholder vote at the annual general meeting held on July 25. Sona Comstar, one of India's prominent auto component manufacturers, confirmed Priya's appointment in a regulatory filing. The decision comes shortly after the company's board named Jeffery Mark Overly as the new chairman, succeeding Sunjay Kapur. However, not everyone in the family is on board. In a letter dated July 24 addressed to the board of Sona Comstar, Rani Kapur — Sunjay's mother and the former chairperson of the Sona Group — accused unnamed individuals of leveraging the family's grief for personal gain. She alleged that during a time of mourning, certain parties made moves to 'wrest control and usurp the family legacy,' casting a shadow over the recent corporate changes. While she did not name anyone directly, the timing of the appointments and the tone of her letter hint at a growing rift in the family business. Despite the estate speculation, Karisma Kapoor's only concern at the moment, according to those close to her, is ensuring stability for her two children with Sunjay. The couple shares daughter Samaira and son Kiaan. Sources confirmed that the children are 'rightful heirs' and will receive their due share, but Karisma herself is not making any legal or financial claims.

Joyalukkas partners with Zoho to unify sales operations & redefine customer experience across global retail operations

Dubai: Joyalukkas, one of the world's largest jewellery retailers with over 175 showrooms across 11 countries, has partnered with Zoho to drive a large-scale digital transformation of its global retail operations. In the first phase, the company implemented Zoho's Customer Experience Platform across more than 100 stores in India and 27 stores in UAE, unifying sales and service functions, centralising customer data and enhancing operational agility. The platform is also deployed across Joyalukkas' 10 international markets, including the United Kingdom, United States, Singapore, and Malaysia. Powered by contextual intelligence, the platform enables personalised, real-time engagement and establishes a scalable foundation for customer experience innovation across global markets. As a legacy premium brand with a growing global presence, Joyalukkas continues to evolve to meet the dynamic needs of its customers across markets. With an expansive omnichannel footprint, the brand recognised the opportunity to enhance its customer experience by bringing greater cohesion, intelligence and agility to its operations. To elevate visibility, streamline processes and enable seamless engagement across touchpoints, Joyalukkas sought more than a traditional CRM. The goal was clear - a unified, adaptable, and insight-driven platform that could support its ambitious, customer-centric vision at scale. Led by Zoho's Enterprise Business Solutions (EBS) team, the transformation followed a phased, consulting-led implementation model tailored to Joyalukkas' global operations. ' In a business like ours where trust, heritage, and emotional connection define the customer relationship, experience is everything. With operations spanning diverse geographies and millions of touchpoints, we needed more than just a CRM. We needed a platform that could unify data, adapt to local nuances, and scale globally. Zoho's Customer Experience Platform gives us that foundation. It enables our teams to engage with customers not just based on transactions, but with a deep understanding of their preferences, behaviours and context. This transformation is helping us transition from reactive service to proactive, insight-led engagement across every region we operate in,' said John Paul Alukkas, Managing Director, Joyalukkas. "Luxury retail operates at the intersection of emotion, prestige, and quality. For a cherished brand like Joyalukkas, delivering that signature experience consistently across global markets is key' said Hyther Nizam, President of Zoho MEA. 'This requires technology that is intelligent and intuitive, integrates seamlessly, scales efficiently, and adapts to local needs. Our Customer Experience Platform is built to support these requirements, providing a unified view of the customer and enabling contextual engagement. With deep data unification, omnichannel orchestration, and rapid implementation, the platform enables enterprises to pivot quickly and engage customers meaningfully. Joyalukkas' ability to adopt this transformation at such speed highlights their vision, operational strength, and commitment to customer value, he added further.
