Sunny Deol Was A ‘Nightmare To Work With', Claims Suneel Darshan: 'Like Indulging A Child'
Suneel Darshan calls Sunny Deol the "darkest chapter" of his life, recalls nightmarish filming experience, emotional manipulation, and ongoing legal issues.
Filmmaker Suneel Darshan, known for shaping the careers of many Bollywood stars, has often found himself at odds with the very actors he once collaborated with. In a recent tell-all with journalist Vickey Lalwani, the veteran director opened up about his tumultuous relationships with leading men like Akshay Kumar and Sunny Deol, and even revealed his estrangement from his own brother, filmmaker Dharmesh Darshan. But it was his candid remarks about Sunny Deol that drew the sharpest attention.
Calling his association with Sunny 'the darkest chapter in my life and career," Suneel didn't mince words as he detailed their fractured relationship and ongoing legal disputes. 'These are powerful people, and they care a damn. But there will be divine justice some day, I am sure. It's something too bitter to even put in words," he said, referencing allegations that Sunny took money from him for a film that never materialized.
Despite their bitter fallout, Suneel clarified that he still holds respect for the Deol family. He chose not to speak ill of Dharmendra, and shared that he had a positive working relationship with Bobby Deol, Sunny's younger brother.
Suneel recalled the evolution of his working dynamic with Sunny across three films: Inteqaam, Lootere, and Ajay. 'I did three films with him. I did my first film, Inteqaam, with him. At that point, he was not a big star. He had a potential stardom to him. We had a relationship before that as well. We distributed a lot of his movies. We had a significant contribution in the project which was to be his launch. I believed in him. I believed that cinema needed people of his kind. During Inteqaam, I was a bit confused…"
The confusion only deepened with their next project. 'It was a nightmarish experience during production. It cost me much more… It was like indulging a little child, and getting him to complete your work. Honestly, I didn't want to do a fourth film with him, but I got stuck with him. And he used emotions, and fake relationships were mentioned, and he got me into a project that he was making for himself," Suneel added, referencing Ajay as the breaking point.
In a surprising turn, Suneel revealed that Sunny Deol was originally supposed to star in Jaanwar — a film that eventually went to a then-struggling Akshay Kumar after their professional relationship soured. Reflecting on his experience with Akshay, Suneel said, 'Akshay Kumar isn't a bad guy at all, actually. He has been much maligned. You cannot deny that he has his qualities."
While his seven-film collaboration with Akshay also ended, the bitterness in Suneel's voice was unmistakably reserved for Sunny. 'Sunny Deol is the darkest chapter in my life and career, but there is God above. There will be divine justice," he said.
Describing what it was like to work with Sunny on set, Suneel remarked, 'It was like minding a child." The emotional and logistical toll, he implied, wasn't just financial — it was deeply personal.

Karan Kundrra, reflecting on his victory said, 'Coming back for Season 2 turned out to be one of the most special experiences I've had in a long time. There was a kind of ease on this set that's hard to describe - no pressure, no overthinking, just people genuinely enjoying themselves. I felt like I was returning to a family that missed me. I joined mid-season, had zero prep, and suddenly I was in this high-pressure kitchen with Elvish, who operates on pure instinct and jugaad, and somehow, it just clicked. What's precious to me is that this journey with all its fun, flaws, and flavour sends a simple but powerful message: that everyone can cook, and everyone should. Because food isn't about perfection, it's about connection.' Elvish Yadav on wrapping up the season with a win shared, 'When I entered Laughter Chefs, I thought it would be a fun break - a few laughs, some kitchen disasters, and then back to regular life. But this show had other plans. From the very first week, it pulled me into its vibe. And when Karan and I teamed up, it was an instant vibe match. We never overplanned, we just showed up, had fun, and stayed real. Kitchen was a new territory for me, but this journey taught me so much. I now have a very different appreciation and respect for those who cook regularly. What stands out for me is that my mom got to witness all of it: the mistakes, the growth, the final win.' Prithviraj Sukumaran compares his Sarzameen co-star Kajol to Mohanlal, calls her ‘a truly gifted artist…'
Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kajol recently made the headlines as they appeared together in the Bollywood movie Sarzameen. As the movie premiered on JioHotstar, the Kaduva actor compared his co-star to Malayalee superstar Mohanlal. What made Prithviraj consider Kajol and Mohanlal to be similar? Talking with Bollywood Bubble, Prithviraj Sukumaran said, 'Kajol is wonderful, she's a truly gifted artist. And, she is an instinctive actor. The greatest thing about collaborating with such actors is that they make the pitch for your character unpredictable.' 'It's not like you have rehearsed with them a couple of times. It also happens with Mohanlal sir. He's very instinctive as an actor. If we do 5 takes with him, each take will be different from the others. Kajol is a lot like him. She truly believes in being instinctive about her performance pitch,' he added. Prithviraj's team hits back against false rumors In recent times, reports suggested that Prithviraj claimed Lucifer 3 would be the biggest action venture in Indian cinema, even including underwater action sequences. However, the actor's team, Poffactio, has hit back against these rumors, clearing the air. The team has also criticized news portals for spreading false claims and said, 'We express our disappointment in major channels for spreading false news claiming that Prithviraj Sukumaran made statements about the L3 movie. These reports are entirely untrue.' 'It appears this misinformation originated from a fake profile ID as part of a hate campaign. We request all channels to cross-check facts before reporting and to republish corrected news to clarify the truth to the public and Prithviraj's well-wishers,' the post read. Here's the official post: About Sarzameen Sarzameen is a Hindi-language movie starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kajol, and Ibrahim Ali Khan in leading roles.
