Jordan kidnapped and killed a bank loan officer's wife called Edwina Marter in a violent ransom plot in 1976.
The Vietnam veteran, who suffered from PTSD, was denied his final appeals by the Supreme
Court

The execution at at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman began at 6pm, according to
prison
officials.
Jordan lay on the gurney with his mouth slightly ajar and took several deep gulps of air before becoming still.

The time of death was given as 6:16 p.m.
When given the opportunity to make a final statement on Wednesday, he said: "First I would like to thank everyone for a humane way of doing this. I want to apologize to the victims
family
."
Jordan's wife Marsha and his lawyer Krissy Nobile were at the execution, and dabbed their eyes several times as it took place.
He them both and asked for forgiveness.

Jordan was one of several on the state's death row who had attempted to sue over its three-drug execution protocol - which he claimed is inhumane.

conference after the execution, Keith Degruy, a spokesperson for Marter's family, read a statement on behalf of her
Charles
and their two sons - who didn't attend the execution.
It read: "Nothing will bring back our mom, sister and our friend. Nothing can ever change what Jordan took from us 49 years ago.
"Jordan tried desperately to change his ruling so he can simply die in prison. We never had an option."
Mississippi Supreme Court records show that in January 1976, Jordan called the Gulf National Bank in Gulfport and asked to speak with a loan officer.
After being given a name - Charles Marter - as someone who could speak to him, Jordan looked up his home address.
He went round to the house where he found Edwina and kidnapped her, records show.

According to court records, Jordan took her to a forest and fatally shot her before calling her husband, claiming she was safe and demanding $25,000.
Jordan's execution was just the third in the state in the last 10 years - with the last one in December 2022.
However, a man was executed in
Florida
the day before Jordan.
Eric Marter, 11 when his mother was killed, said that other family members were planning on attending the execution.
He said: "It should have happened a long time ago.
"I'm not really interested in giving him the benefit of the doubt.
"He needs to be punished."
Jordan was one of 22 people sentenced in the 1970s who were still on death row at the beginning of this year, according to the Death Penalty Information Center.
His execution ended a decades of wrangling in the
courts
which encompassed four trials and numerous appeals.
On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected a petition that argued he was denied due process rights.
His lawyer, Krissy Nobile, said: "He was never given what for a long time the
law
has entitled him to, which is a mental
health
professional that is independent of the prosecution and can assist his defense."
She claimed that his jury never got to hear about his Vietnam experiences.

His mum, Laila Soueif, in London, is on death's door after almost 300 days of hunger strike - and she has vowed not to eat until her son is free. A FARMER believes he has bought the UK's 'deadliest' field having discovered it was riddled with a harmful plant which is so poisonous even a tiny amount can kill a human. However, the plant can be identified by its distinctive and unpleasant aroma of its foliage and purple-spotted stems. The smell means that accidental poisonings are rare and most livestock keep well away from it. Even a small amount of Hemlock, if consumed can be enough to kill a human or animal. The farmer took to his Facebook page to warn his followers about the danger the plant posed. He said: 'I have bought a field to live in and I've realised it is full of poison. 'Commonly mistaken for wild carrot, this is hemlock, and, just eating any single part of this plant is enough to kill me. Hemlock and its cousin hemlock water-dropwort are members of the carrot family and are both toxic, posing a risk to anyone who tries to eat them. All parts of Hemlock are toxic and can harm people if they are touched, breathed or eaten. Anyone who comes into contact with the plant should be aware of the symptoms which include dizziness and trembling followed by a slowed heartbeat, dilation of the pupils, muscle paralysis, paralysis of the central nervous system and death caused by respiratory failure. Hemlock is so poisonous that dead canes are still toxic for up to three years. Anyone getting rid of the plant should wear gloves and take frequent breaks. A pensioner in Milton Keynes became irate after the plant was left to grow nearly eight feet high, last year. SYMPTOMS OF HEMLOCK POISONING Hemlock poisoning will show symptoms after around 30 minutes, or up to 3 hours. The plant can cause a painful rash or burning on the eyes if touched. Ingesting any part of the plant can lead to poisoning which can lead to respiratory failure. Symptoms include: Trembling Burning sensation in digestive tract Increased salivation Dilated pupils Muscle pain and weakness Decreased heart rate Loss of speech Convulsions Unconsciousness If you believe you have symptoms, you should seek medical attention immediately. Jean Crussell claimed she was forced to keep her doors and windows shut and her dog kept inside. She said: 'They ignored our concerns for many months. 'The plant is known to be lethal and could have killed my dog and affected my health.' Jean, 79, who lives alone with her Labradoodle called Taxi, added: 'All the residents are naturally very worried as hemlock can be highly poisonous. 'There's pets and young kids living in the close of 20 homes. 'No one knows how the hemlock got here, it just self-seeded and grew, and grew and grew. 'In the spring it was already six feet high.' Jean, who has lived on the close for 10 years, said the plant initially started growing in the close made up of council homes two years ago after two new properties were added. The local authority eventually took action eight months later and got rid of the deadly plants. Jean said: 'Two new properties were built two years ago on a former grassy area. Children among 14 killed in Gaza by Israeli forces, say Gaza rescuers
GAZA'S CIVIL DEFENCE agency said Israeli air strikes and gunfire killed at least 14 people including three children in the war-stricken Palestinian territory today. Civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal told news agency AFP that 13 people died in air strikes at four locations around the Gaza Strip, and another from Israeli fire near an aid distribution centre. The Israeli military told AFP it was not able to comment on the reported incidents but said it was fighting 'to dismantle Hamas military capabilities' in a campaign launched in 2023 against the Islamist militant group. Restrictions on media in Gaza and difficulties in accessing many areas mean AFP, along with many other outlets, is unable to independently verify the tolls and details provided by rescuers. Bassal said two children were killed in an air strike on their home in Gaza City's Zeitun neighbourhood in the early morning, and 'the house was completely destroyed.' A member of the family, Abdel Rahman Azzam, 45, told AFP he was at home and 'heard a huge explosion at my relative's house'. 'I rushed out in panic and saw the house destroyed and on fire,' he added. 'We evacuated more than 20 injured people, including two martyrs – two children from the family. The screams of children and women were non-stop,' Azzam said. 'They bombed the house with a missile without any prior warning. This is a horrific crime. We sleep without knowing if we will wake up.'
