State leaders hail PM's RM100 aid and fuel price cut as timely relief for Malaysians
In NEGERI SEMBILAN, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the initiatives announced, including the one-time provision of RM100 under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme and petrol price reduction, are a good start and can ease the people's burden.
'Such announcements give meaning to the people... for those in need, it is a very meaningful gift and can help them in their daily lives,' he told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting in Seremban today.
Aminuddin, who is also the Port Dickson Member of Parliament, said the state government welcomed the good news and is confident it can encourage the people to continue to be positive in facing daily life challenges.
He added that the government's decision to multiply the Madani Rahmah Sales and double the allocation for the programme to RM600 million was also the best initiative that will significantly benefit the people.
In MELAKA, the state government will plan tourism activities for visitors in conjunction with the additional public holiday on Sept 15 to further invigorate the tourism sector in the state as part of its new industry, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof.
'I will make this tourism sector a new industry in Melaka… it will have all kinds (of tourism activities in Melaka), covering air, land and sea,' he told reporters outside the State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
In SELANGOR, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari described the announcement of the one-off RM100 aid through MyKad under SARA as proof of the Madani Government's care and concern towards the people's plight.
He said that with 22 million Malaysians set to benefit from the total allocation of RM2 billion via SARA, it will help propel the economic cycle forward through the expected spending or purchase transactions.
'Although some consider the RM100 as too little, the actual value that needs to be seen is the RM2 billion that has been allocated because how much of that amount will move and enter the economic chain and value through spending by the people.
'Besides helping to ease the financial burden of recipients, the benefits through economic movement of the cash-out proceeds given in a targeted manner by the government will also provide returns and benefits of their own to traders and small entrepreneurs,' he said.
In PENANG, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the provision of the one-off RM100 assistance under SARA is highly appreciated because the Federal Government can still implement it despite being under tight fiscal constraints.
In welcoming the announcement, Chow said the prime minister should also be given the time and space to face domestic and global economic pressures, including the United States (US) tariff situation, which can impact Malaysia's exports.
'Despite the tight financial situation, this incentive, which will cost the government billions (or ringgit), is still appreciated. However, I believe the people are looking forward to more comprehensive forms of assistance, such as initiatives that ease the cost of doing business, or through infrastructure projects that create jobs and spur growth,' he said.
In PERLIS, Menteri Besar Perlis Mohd Shukri Ramli said any action that can give profit to the people and ease their burden is a good thing, and we want to thank the prime minister, who continues to strive to help the people face the challenges of rising cost of living.
'The announcement made by the prime minister is a good move… I will also get the one-off RM100 provided via SARA for the adult group, so thank you,' he told reporters after chairing the executive council meeting at Seri Putra Complex in Kangar today.
He added that the announcement of Sept 15 as an additional public holiday, meanwhile, would allow the people to plan their holidays to celebrate Malaysia Day on Sept 16.
In KEDAH, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor also welcomed the announcement on the RON95 petrol price reduction and one-off RM100 payment to all Malaysians aged 18 and above.
'Alhamdulillah, and for the RM100 under SARA, thank you,' he said briefly.
In KELANTAN, Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan described the announcement by Anwar as timely, with many facing various life challenges.
'We welcome whatever initiatives to help the people. We are thankful, more so when people are facing financial hardship and rising goods prices,' he told reporters after the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Kota Darulnaim Complex in Kota Bharu today. — Bernama

Ministry proposes broader access to essential items for Sara aid recipients
RANAU: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will collaborate with the Finance Ministry to expand access to essential items for recipients of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) aid. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the ministry had proposed that recipients be allowed to use their Sara aid at mobile Jualan Rahmah Madani Programme (PJRM) locations, in addition to existing participating retailers. He said, at present, recipients of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) aid could only purchase basic items at 4,152 participating supermarkets and retail outlets across the country, including 470 in Sabah. "This initiative enables Sara recipients, particularly in rural and interior areas, to use the aid credited to their MyKad to make purchases at Jualan Rahmah mobile locations," he told reporters after launching the Sabah Zone KPDN Carnival 2025 here tonight. Armizan said the additional RM300 million allocation for Jualan Rahmah would enable KPDN to increase its frequency nationwide, with a target of 20,000 series throughout this year. "For Sabah, KPDN is targeting 2,276 PJRM series throughout this year, and as of July 26, a total of 1,089 have already been implemented. "We will adopt several approaches to ensure the target is achieved by year-end," he said. He said the approaches included increasing the range of items offered and enhancing cooperation with strategic retail partners. "Through these improvements, the people will have more choices. The ministry can no longer act alone as it did in the past. For example, today's PJRM is carried out in collaboration with retail partners," he explained. Commenting on today's programme, this was the second year KPDN had implemented the programme, adding that six carnival tours would be held across the country this year. "The carnival in Ranau, held in conjunction with the Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign (KBBM), is the second in the series this year, and we expect around 60,000 visitors throughout the three-day event," he said. Armizan said that the main goal of the initiative was to bring government services, particularly those under KPDN, closer to the people, especially at the grassroots level. "The KPDN Carnival 2025 also serves as a catalyst in empowering KBBM through the theme 'Jom Beli Lokal' as part of ongoing efforts to support local products and strengthen the domestic economy. It is also a strategic move to boost domestic economic growth while helping local entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium enterprises expand their market reach. Illogical to put FT dept under Zahid, says Save KL

(Envato Elements pic) PETALING JAYA : A group representing Kuala Lumpur residents has opposed the proposal by an Umno Youth leader for the federal territories department to be placed under the supervision of deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Save KL chairman M Ali said such a move was illogical and impractical, and would render Dr Zaliha Mustafa's role as federal territories minister redundant. He also voiced fears about additional costs, overlapping roles, and inefficiencies. 'If such a transfer occurs, Zahid would oversee the federal territories department, which indirectly means he would be overseeing Zaliha who is the head of the department,' he told FMT. Ali also said that Zahid, the Umno president, already served as deputy prime minister, rural and regional development minister, and chairman of the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training Council, in addition to representing the prime minister when necessary. 'Rural development is a very active and key role,' he said, adding that it would take up much of Zahid's time and focus. The federal territories ministry was formed in 1979 to align Kuala Lumpur's development with that of the Klang Valley. It was abolished in 1987 with a federal territories development department taking its place instead. The ministry was revived in 2004, restructured into the current federal territories department in 2022, and placed under the Prime Minister's Department. FT Umno Youth had proposed placing the department under Zahid's purview, saying the development of the three federal territories – Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan – seemed to have lost direction since the ministry was scrapped. FT Umno Youth chief Aliff Firdaus Abd Hadi claimed that key agencies in the territories were also working in silos, and that Zahid would be able to ensure better inter-agency coordination.

PETALING JAYA : While Barisan Nasional plans to continue its alliance with Pakatan Harapan in the next general election (GE16), BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says its strategies for elections after that may change. Zahid, the Umno president, acknowledged that there were calls for BN to contest in GE16 on its own, but said the coalition is firm on continuing its alliance with PH. However, he said BN's political strategies for the general elections that follow will be determined by the electoral performance of the parties in the alliance, Berita Harian reported. 'We do not know how many seats we will have, and how many seats they will have. 'Remember that, in Malaysia, differences in views are conventionally based on differing party 'colours'. We are willing to forget our different 'colours' for the sake of political stability,' he was quoted as saying. The Umno-led BN played a crucial role in enabling Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to form the unity government in the wake of the 2022 general election, which resulted in a hung Parliament. PH had won 81 parliamentary seats while BN won 30, in what was the latter's worst electoral performance to date.
