Gaza rescuers say Israeli strikes kill 14 as Trump teases ceasefire push - War on Gaza
After nearly 21 months of war which has created dire humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, home to more than two million people, the Israeli military said this week it had expanded its operations.
In southern Gaza on Wednesday, civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP that five members of the same family were killed and several others wounded in an Israeli air strike that hit a tent housing displaced people in the coastal Al-Mawasi area.
AFP images from the nearby Nasser Hospital, in Khan Yunis city, showed medics treating young children covered in blood.
Some appeared terrified while others lay still on hospital beds in bloodied bandages and clothes.
Despite being declared a safe zone by Israel in December 2023, Al-Mawasi has been hit by repeated Israeli strikes.
Further north, Bassal said that four people from the same family were killed in a pre-dawn Israeli air strike on a house in Gaza City, and another five in a drone strike on a house in the central Deir el-Balah area.
'End the war'
On Tuesday the military said that in recent days its forces had expanded operations across Gaza, claiming 'eliminating dozens of terrorists and dismantling hundreds of terror infrastructure sites'.
After months of stalled mediation efforts to bring an end to the war, Trump on Tuesday said on social media that a new ceasefire proposal has Israel's support.
'Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War,' Trump said.
He added that Qatari and Egyptian mediators, who have been in direct contact with Hamas throughout the war, would deliver 'this final proposal'.
'I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better -- IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.'
Trump is due to host Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House next week.
Since 7 October 2023, Israel's genocidal war in Gaza has killed at least 56,647 people, most of them women and children, with over 132,000 others injured, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
The United Nations confirmed that these figures to be reliable.

Egypt's PM Urges BRICS Nations to Focus on Common Interests, Collective Action to Address Challenges
Taarek Refaat In a key speech delivered on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasized the need for stronger international cooperation to confront pressing global challenges. Speaking on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Madbouly participated in the 'Peace, Security, and Global Governance Reform' session, underlining the importance of multilateralism, sustainable development, and peacebuilding. The working luncheon, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, served as a platform for discussing vital issues surrounding global security, peace, and governance reform. Prime Minister Madbouly began by thanking President da Silva for the opportunity to engage in these critical conversations, particularly in light of the increasingly complex geopolitical climate. Addressing Crisis and Multilateralism Madbouly outlined the intertwining crises facing the world today, with a particular focus on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, which has been exacerbated by ongoing Israeli military actions. He also highlighted the broader impact of these hostilities, which have extended to neighboring regions, including Lebanon, Syria, and Iran. He underscored that these developments reinforce the urgency of strengthening multilateral cooperation, supporting international law, and reinforcing the role of the United Nations in promoting peace and security. 'The catastrophic humanitarian situation we witness today, especially in Gaza, is a stark reminder of why multilateralism and respect for international law are more crucial than ever,' said Madbouly. 'It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the principles enshrined in the UN Charter guide the future of global governance.' Egypt's Role in Promoting Regional Peace The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to emphasize Egypt's longstanding commitment to regional and global peace efforts. He highlighted Egypt's strategic role in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and post-conflict reconstruction across Africa and the Middle East. In particular, he pointed to Egypt's leadership in addressing regional challenges through diplomatic mediation and capacity building. 'Since 2019, President El-Sisi has served as the African Union Champion for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development. This reflects Egypt's deep engagement in promoting peace and stability on the African continent,' Madbouly remarked. 'We have developed extensive experience in mediation, dialogue, and reconciliation processes.' Madbouly also referenced the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding, which has been instrumental in resolving violent conflicts since its founding in 1994. The center's work focuses on mediation, negotiation, and supporting national reconciliation efforts, alongside enhancing local communities' capacity to address emerging security threats. In addition to Egypt's role in regional peacekeeping, Madbouly highlighted the importance of sustainable development as a cornerstone for conflict prevention. 'We must address the root causes of conflict, particularly poverty, and ensure that sustainable development is a key focus,' he stated. He also outlined Egypt's launch of the Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development in 2019, which provides an important platform for discussing the interconnectedness between peace and development. The forum encourages African-led solutions to peace and security challenges, with the next session scheduled for October 2025 in Aswan. In his concluding remarks, Prime Minister Madbouly emphasized the importance of collaboration between BRICS nations and beyond, urging that 'we must strengthen our cooperation, focus on common interests, and work together to overcome the current challenges and fulfill the aspirations of our peoples.' With global instability on the rise and the urgency for peace-building ever more apparent, Madbouly's call for multilateralism and collective action serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts of Egypt to shape a more peaceful and sustainable global order. His message resonates not only within the BRICS framework but also among the broader international community committed to peace and justice. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

U.S. Treasury Secretary to Musk: 'Stay Out of Politics, Focus on Your Companies'
Taarek Refaat A day after tech mogul Elon Musk announced the formation of a new political party in a direct challenge to former President Donald Trump, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bissent issued a blunt public message: 'Stick to running your companies and leave politics to the politicians.' The remark comes amid growing concern from investors and board members over Musk's deepening political involvement. The announcement of Musk's 'America Party' over the weekend has already had immediate financial repercussions, including the postponement of a major investment initiative. Investor Backlash and Delayed Deals Azuria Partners, a private equity firm that had been planning to launch a Tesla-linked investment fund this week, said Sunday it would delay the project. In a statement, the firm cited 'an inherent conflict between Mr. Musk's executive responsibilities and the political ambitions he has now publicly declared.' James Fishback, CEO of Azuria Partners and a known Trump supporter, took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his disapproval. 'Elon left us no choice,' Fishback posted, calling on Tesla's board to convene an emergency meeting and demanding clarity on Musk's political intentions. Musk vs. Trump: From Allies to Rivals The political clash marks a dramatic turn in the relationship between Musk and Trump. The two were once allies, with Musk playing a visible role during Trump's re-election campaign and even advising on tech-related issues during his first term. But the recently passed 'Big Beautiful Law'—Trump's sweeping tax-cut and defense spending package—proved to be the final straw. Musk blasted the law, warning it would "bankrupt the country" and disproportionately harm clean energy initiatives. His proposed party, the 'America Party,' aims to challenge pro-Trump Republicans in the upcoming midterms. Musk's sharp pivot has reportedly alarmed board members at both Tesla and SpaceX, according to Secretary Bissent. 'I imagine the boards were not thrilled with yesterday's announcement,' Bissent said during a Sunday CNN interview. 'They'll likely encourage Elon to refocus on the business side.' Trump Responds with Threats President Trump, never one to leave a slight unanswered, claimed Musk's outrage was rooted in the removal of electric vehicle tax incentives from the new law—an indirect blow to Tesla's profit margins. Speaking to supporters at a rally in Ohio, Trump warned he might revoke billions of dollars in federal contracts and subsidies currently flowing to Musk's companies. 'Tesla and SpaceX have made fortunes off the government,' Trump said. 'If Elon wants to play politics, he better be ready to lose the perks.' A Popular Department, An Unpopular Founder Interestingly, despite the political turbulence, Musk's earlier government initiative— the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), established during Trump's administration—remains widely popular. But as Bissent noted, 'Voters liked DOGE. They didn't necessarily like Elon.' Recent polling supports Bissent's view, showing lukewarm public support for Musk as a political figure, despite his towering influence in the tech and automotive sectors. What's Next for Musk? While the White House has not issued an official response, Trump's chief economic advisor Stephen Miran defended the controversial law during a separate interview with ABC. 'The Big Beautiful Law will unleash economic growth,' he said. Meanwhile, calls are growing within Tesla's shareholder community for clarity and accountability. Whether Musk will double down on his political crusade or heed calls to step back remains unclear. But as markets react and political tensions rise, one thing is certain: Elon Musk's entry into politics has rattled not just Washington—but Wall Street, too. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean
