Astros GM Dana Brown says Isaac Paredes' injury is ‘more severe than we projected'
Brown said Paredes is seeking a second opinion and the team should know more about his prognosis within the week. Paredes has not been spotted at Daikin Park since he suffered the injury on July 19 against the Seattle Mariners.

'It's tough to be optimistic when you know it's more severe,' Brown told the team's pregame radio show on Sunday.
Paredes is one of a major-league high nine Astros position players currently on the injured list. Five of them, including Paredes, were in Houston's Opening Day lineup.
Paredes has perhaps the most serious injury of that quintet. Brown's comments on Sunday must prompt serious concern whether Paredes will return this season — a reality that could alter Brown's approach as Thursday's trade deadline approaches.
Earlier this week, Brown said the team is 'prioritizing the bats' while also remaining in the market for a starting pitcher. Acquiring both would be an ideal deadline, but Houston's lack of top-end prospect capital will make it difficult to win any bidding wars against other buyers.
Few available players would be able to offset Paredes' absence. The pull-happy third baseman leads the Astros' lineup with 19 home runs and trails only injured shortstop Jeremy Peña for the team lead in both on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
'We're still looking for a left-handed bat, so that didn't change,' Brown told the team's pregame radio show on Sunday. 'If it's an infielder, great. If it's an outfielder, we'll take that as well. It really didn't change much, it's just more of a preference to be an infielder now.'
Utilityman Mauricio Dubón has started six of the Astros' eight games at third base since Paredes' injury. Second base also remains in flux after Jose Altuve accepted a position change to left field this winter, though Brown has intimated the club could move Altuve back to second base if it acquires an outfielder at the deadline.

Griner repeatedly outmatched her opponents in the paint as Atlanta built the lead en route to 22 points, four rebounds and three assists. She scored 17 of her 22 points before halftime and finished the night shooting 8 of 13 (61.5%) from the field. The second half was a different story. Collier, who scored 11 points in the first half, took the game over after the break. Minnesota cut its 14-point halftime deficit to 60-54 by the end of the third quarter, and Collier kept the pressure on en route to 32 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two blocks. She one-upped Griner's offensive efficiency with a 14-of-18 (77.8%) effort from the floor, including a jumper that cut Atlanta's lead to 86-89 with 11.1 seconds remaining. But Jordin Canada hit a free throw that pushed Atlanta's lead back to two possessions at 90-86 with 7 seconds remaining, and the Dream ran out of time and chances to complete the comeback. With the win, the Dream cap a six-game road trip with a 3-3 record. They'll return to Atlanta to face the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday in their first home game since July 7. They'll finish the season with a back-loaded slate of home games that features 11 of their last 19 games in Atlanta, including seven of their last nine. The Lynx will have a chance to start a new home-winning streak on Wednesday in a showdown with the Liberty featuring the two best teams in the league. The Liberty might play that game without All-Star Breanna Stewart, who's dealing with a leg injury but will reportedly travel with the team.

Royals and former All-Star pitcher Seth Lugo finalizing contract extension
One of Major League Baseball's top trade candidates is officially off the table. The Kansas City Royals are finalizing a multi-year contract extension with former All-Star right-hander Seth Lugo, per Jeff Passan. Lugo, 35, was set to hit the open market in the offseason and was heavily involved in trade rumors. The big veteran has put together another quality season for the Royals, posting a 7-5 record with a 2.95 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP in 19 starts. Teams that have had interest in Lugo, like the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs, will have to shift their attention elsewhere. Bolton football's Joshua Henderson, 16, dies after complications from heat stroke
Joshua Henderson, a Bolton High School football player who'd been hospitalized since collapsing during a July 7 practice, died on July 26, Memphis Shelby County Schools announced in a statement on July 27. "It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of a beloved Bolton High School (BHS) student, Joshua Henderson," said MSCS. "He was not only an exceptional athlete and dedicated scholar, but also a source of light and joy to all who knew him. His kindness, determination, and positive spirit left a lasting impression on classmates, teachers, and our entire BHS community." On a GoFundMe page being used to raise money for funeral expenses, Henderson's family wrote that he suffered a severe heat stroke and had been receiving treatment at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. "After bravely fighting for his life in the hospital, Josh transitioned due to complications from organ failure caused by a severe heat stroke," the family wrote. "Josh was only 16 years old, full of life, laughter, and promise. He was deeply loved by his parents, siblings, extended family, and all who knew him. His sudden loss has left our hearts shattered and our world forever changed." MSCS said that grief counselors and support staff will be available at the school in the coming days for any students in need.
