‘Picture perfect audio' – Watch RTE pair Morrissey & Mullane lose their minds commentating on Tipperary wonder goal

Human error was responsible for the scoreboard incorrectly awarding Tipperary an extra point from the 70th minute onwards. Crucially, referee James Owen did not make the same mistake.
But Kilkenny players have a right to feel aggrieved considering they chased a goal unnecessarily thinking their deficit was then four points rather than three.
RTE pundits weigh in on scoreboard controversy that marred Tipperary's dramatic win over Kilkenny
While
Kilkenny then had two attacks where firstly Eoin Cody and secondly John Donnelly needlessly went for goal from long-range.
Joe Canning outlined how Kilkenny's players clearly forced the issue as they felt they were in a bigger hole than they were in actuality.
Speaking about them thinking they were initially down by four immediately after McGrath's phantom point, he emphasized: "Psychologically that's huge because then you feel you have to get a goal and a point.
"When you're only two points down you're thinking we can tap one over and then try and win the puck-out so you can tap another one over.
"So for Kilkenny's players, psychologically, chasing three points (that late on) is way different from chasing two points."
Later on in the programme Canning returned to just how vital Robert Doyle's goal-line block from Donnelly's rasping effort had been.
The Galway great added: "He's lucky because if they got that goal at the end of the match, Kilkenny would've won by the referee.
"Kilkenny would've been a point up yet everybody in the stadium would've thought it was a drawn match. So he saved the GAA I'd say!"
GAA INVESTIGATION
The GAA have launched an investigation after the incident marred what was an otherwise incredible occasion.
In a statement last night, Croke Park chiefs are awaiting referee Owen's match report to get to the bottom of the confusion.
It said: 'The GAA can confirm that the official score at the end of the Tipperary v Kilkenny GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship Semi-Final was 4-20 to 0-30.
"The GAA acknowledges there was confusion over the final score. The CCCC is awaiting the full referees report in order to establish how the initial mistake occurred."

Kilkenny GAA expected to respond over decision not to replay SHC semi-final

There will be no replay of last Sunday's All-Ireland SHC semi-final but Kilkenny GAA are expected to make a public response to outline their disappointment at the circumstances around the Croke Park scoreboard carrying the incorrect score during injury time. The scoreboard mistakenly awarded Noel McGrath's 70th-minute effort as a point – even though one of the umpires signalled it had drifted wide of the Hill 16 posts. That error gave Tipperary a four-point lead in the game and forced Kilkenny to immediately try force goalscoring opportunities. The score at the final whistle was initially given as 4-21 to 0-30 but just before 8pm on Sunday night the GAA amended the result with referee James Owens confirming the final score as Tipperary 4-20 Kilkenny 0-30. The referee's report trumps all else. Derek Lyng did not make a big deal of the error when speaking immediately after the game and there does not appear to be an appetite in Kilkenny to enter the appeal trenches on the matter. READ MORE However, several county officers believe it is important for the board to construct an official response and show support for their players, so a Kilkenny GAA statement is expected. Meanwhile, Raymond Galligan has stepped down as Cavan senior football manager after two years in charge. The former county goalkeeper, who in September 2023 was appointed on a three-year term, has brought his spell at the helm to an end citing work and family commitments as the reasons for his decision. 'Raymond has been a wonderful servant to Cavan GAA over the years as a footballer, team captain, manager and a positive role model for all. Raymond always had time for all the younger fans which did not go unnoticed,' stated Cavan GAA. Cavan retained their Division Two status during both of Galligan's seasons in charge. They chalked up a famous victory over Mayo in this year's championship but exited the competition after a heavy defeat to Kerry in the preliminary quarter-finals. As a player Galligan made 114 appearances scoring an impressive 1-122 despite being a goalkeeper for the majority of his Cavan career. He captained the team from 2019 -2023 and lifted the Anglo Celt Cup in 2020. He also won an All Star that year. 'Cavan GAA would like to put on record their appreciation and gratitude for the huge commitment and effort Raymond and his management have given to Cavan football. We wish Raymond, his wife Niamh and their two young children the best in the future and thank you again from all in Cavan GAA.'

Niall Moran: Cork won't win All-Ireland without Séamus Harnedy

Cork won't end their All-Ireland hurling famine without Séamus Harnedy in the starting team, according to former Limerick hurler Niall Moran. The 36-year-old has enjoyed another stellar season in red, but missed the rout of Dublin in Saturday's semi-final with a hamstring issue. Ahead of the game at Croke Park, manager Pat Ryan said the influential St Ita's man would be available for the decider should the Rebels progress. His replacement in the half-forward line, Declan Dalton, delivered a strong performance, picking off 0-05 including some long-range missiles both from play and placed balls. With the full-forward line plundering 5-11 and the likes of Shane Kingston and Conor Lehane impressing off the bench it means Ryan has plenty of options up front. Whether to restore Harnedy to the team to face Tipperary could be the biggest decision. Now in his 13th season, he took the Premier County for five points from play in the Munster round-robin victory and starred on the half-forward line in the Munster final success over Limerick. Speaking on 2fm's Game On, Moran feels the three-time All-Star should be included from the start. "He has to find a place for Seamie Harnedy," he said. "In my book, Cork don't win any All-Ireland without him. Who will be the unlucky person to miss out?" Moran says that while the swashbuckling nature of Cork's run to the final has caught the eye, the mounting pressure to win Liam MacCarthy for the first time since 2005 could play into Tipperary's hands. "The real weight of expectation is going to be on one team and one team only and that's Cork. "If Cork are only a point or two up, with 10 minutes left, how will the psychology of that work for them? "Whose camp would you prefer to be preparing for? I definitely think Liam Cahill has all the aces up his sleeve in terms of that. "Can Tipp bring that level of performance and a little bit extra? It's not beyond them." Also speaking on the programme was decorated Kilkenny hurler Eddie Brennan. The eight-time All-Ireland winner says given the resounding defeats to the Rebels already this season, Tipperary head into the decider brimming with motivation. "After what happened in the league final and the round-robin in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, if Liam Cahill had a wish list, this is the one he wanted to get," he said. "I'd imagine they are saying, 'are these boys going to put on an exhibition against us again?' That's the sole motivation. "Tipp are in a great place, their collective has really impressed me, but I'm not sure they can hold Cork for 70 minutes, plus the three or four forwards that are going to come in full of energy."
