CapitaLand wins double honours at CSR Malaysia Awards 2025 for community care efforts

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — CapitaLand has clinched two top honours at the Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards 2025, receiving the 'Company of the Year' award in the shopping mall category and the 'Long-Standing Excellence' award for its #GivingBersama 4.0 initiative.
This marks the third consecutive year CapitaLand has received the Company of the Year title, in recognition of its continued efforts to uplift communities across Malaysia. In 2024, the company was also acknowledged for its support of underprivileged children.
The awards, organised annually, celebrate outstanding organisations that demonstrate long-term commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
As part of CapitaLand's global #GivingAsOne campaign, the #GivingBersama 4.0 initiative provided aid to beneficiaries from orphanage homes, schools, and low-income families in Penang, Klang Valley, Pahang and Johor.
With support from CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF)—the group's philanthropic arm—the campaign contributed RM200,000 worth of daily necessities and school essentials to more than 2,600 individuals.
Between October 23 and December 20, 2024, over 180 CapitaLand staff volunteers dedicated more than 1,400 hours to community service.
The programme reached nearly 800 underserved children from 21 homes and more than 1,800 individuals from 600 low-income families.
Beneficiaries were identified in collaboration with Unit Mutiara Food Bank in Penang and the Social Welfare Department in Kuala Lumpur, Kuantan and Johor.
A highlight of this year's campaign was the introduction of a shopping mall-style bazaar experience, held at community halls nationwide, where beneficiaries could select their own essential items—making the experience more personal and engaging.
'We are truly honoured to receive this esteemed accolade for the third year in a row, especially as CapitaLand celebrates its 25th anniversary this year,' said Selina Ng, Managing Director, Retail, CapitaLand Investment (Malaysia).
'The awards affirm our ongoing efforts to create a positive and lasting impact in the communities where we operate.'
Ng said the group believes building resilient communities goes beyond financial contributions.
'Through our #GivingBersama initiative, we are heartened by the strong and sustained support from our employees, tenants, business partners and the wider community,' she added.
'Since 2011, with the support of CHF, we have reached over 16,100 beneficiaries and contributed more than RM2.6 million in community initiatives.'
Held annually in September and October, CapitaLand's #GivingAsOne campaign mobilises staff, tenants, business partners and customers to uplift vulnerable groups.
In 2024, over 8,900 volunteers across 17 countries clocked more than 46,000 hours, benefiting over 13,000 people globally.
CapitaLand's footprint in Malaysia spans residential, retail, lodging, logistics and business parks. Its retail network includes seven malls: Melawati Mall in Taman Melawati and six under CapitaLand Malaysia Trust—3 Damansara, East Coast Mall, Gurney Plaza, Queensbay Mall, The Mines and Sungei Wang Plaza.
The group also operates Nusajaya Tech Park in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

MUAR, July 26 — The public is urged to remain vigilant against fraudulent links circulated by scammers related to the one-off RM100 cash assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) initiative, which are designed to collect personal information, said Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching. She said the scammers often employ deceptive tactics by sharing links accompanied by posters that appear convincing, incorporating official-looking elements such as the Malaysia Madani and Bersama Malaysiaku logos to mislead recipients. 'One such example is the link which falsely claims to provide official information about the RM100 Sara aid and prompts users to submit their personal information. The Ministry of Finance confirmed yesterday that this link is fake,' she said. 'My advice is, if the information truly comes from the government, the link will typically end with '. - where 'gov' stands for government,' she told reporters after attending the Madani Community Service programme held in conjunction with the launch of National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign here. She added that numerous complaints had been received regarding the matter, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had taken steps to block the fraudulent link. Teo said that such scams often evolve by creating new websites with similar names, such as ' or ' and urged the public to remain vigilant. She also stressed that no money will be deposited into e-wallets or Touch 'n Go accounts. Instead, eligible MyKad holders only need to present their identification cards at participating outlets, including Lotus's, Mydin, 99 Speedmart and selected grocery stores — to access the benefits. 'The primary role of the MyKad in this programme is solely to verify the identity of recipients. It has no connection to any e-wallet platform, so there's no need to worry if your MyKad isn't linked to certain applications,' Teo said. She also urged the public to rely only on official websites or verified social media accounts of government agencies, such as the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Communications for the latest and most accurate information. GUA MUSANG, July 26 — The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) expects Malaysia's durian exports to exceed RM1.5 billion this year, following strong demand from major markets such as China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Canada. Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the total value of the country's durian exports abroad had increased by 256.3 per cent or equivalent to RM822.8 million in five years, from RM321.2 million in 2018 to RM1.14 billion in 2022. 'This increase proves the great potential of durian as a high-value agro-food commodity that not only provides great returns to the country, but also opens up economic opportunities for the people at various levels,' he said when opening the 2025 Durian Festival at the Gua Musang District Council's main hall here today. He said efforts to promote durian through festivals and programmes like this were also deemed important to stimulate the growth of the high-value agricultural sector and create a value chain involving farmers, logistics, retailers, processing industries and tourism. Mohamad said that based on the global fresh durian market report by global market research firm Mordor Intelligence (2024), the value of the world durian market is expected to reach more than USD10.78 billion in 2025 and jump to USD16.89 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.4 per cent. 'China remains the key driver of this growth, accounting for more than 90 per cent of total durian imports in the Asia Pacific, thus becoming a key strategic market for Malaysian exporters. 'On June 19, 2024, Malaysia successfully signed the Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for the Export of Fresh Durian Fruit to China, which opened up new market access for fresh durian exports from Malaysia to the country,' he said. KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — AirAsia Malaysia has launched two new direct routes connecting Kuala Lumpur and Kuching to Pontianak, the capital city of West Kalimantan, Indonesia, with AirAsia as the only airline operating international flights to the city starting Sept 12, 2025. In a statement, the company said the expansion follows AirAsia's rapid growth in Indonesia, including the recent launch of the Kuala Lumpur-Palembang route in July and the upcoming Kuala Lumpur-Semarang service in September. 'With the introduction of Pontianak, AirAsia Malaysia will operate to a total of 17 destinations in Indonesia through 223 weekly flights between the two countries, solidifying its position as the airline with the widest network serving Indonesia,' it said. The launch of these new routes strengthens regional connectivity and supports both governments' targets, including Malaysia's goal of attracting 4.3 million Indonesian tourists in 2025 and Sarawak's target of five million visitor arrivals by year-end. It also aims to contribute to Indonesia's national target of 16 million international arrivals, with Malaysia remaining one of its top source markets, it said. The new routes were unveiled during the Sarawak Travel Fair, organised by the Sarawak Tourism Board in Pontianak, and officially launched by West Kalimantan Governor Drs Ria Norsan. He said the new direct routes will not only facilitate easier access for travellers but also bolster trade, investment and tourism flows. 'West Kalimantan stands ready to welcome more Malaysian visitors while providing convenient access for Indonesians seeking business opportunities, leisure travel and medical services in Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur,' he said. Consulate of Malaysia in Pontianak, Consul Azizul Zekri Abd Rahim said the new connectivity marks a pivotal moment in fostering stronger bilateral ties between Malaysia and Indonesia, particularly West Kalimantan. 'With Visit Malaysia 2026 on the horizon, this expansion comes at the perfect moment to further boost tourism, foster cultural exchange and enhance regional ties between both nations,' he said. AirAsia Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Captain Fareh Mazputra said the strong demand for travel between Malaysia and West Kalimantan had driven the company to enhance connectivity, making it easier and more affordable for people to travel for business, tourism and medical purposes.
