In a Facebook post today, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the programme was introduced to help ease students' cost of living, particularly those from the B40 group, while fostering a spirit of mutual care and support among university staff.
"I managed to stop by the UiTM Sabah HEP Kitchen at the Kota Kinabalu Campus, where about 60 kilogrammes of rice are cooked daily and distributed to over 3,000 students.

Fishermen Call For Stone Seawall To Restore Water Quality At Teluk Nipah
GENERAL SUNGAI PETANI, July 16 (Bernama) -- Fishermen in Kampung Teluk Nipah, Kota Kuala Muda, have urged authorities to build a stone seawall along 200 metres of coastline to curb erosion and restore seawater quality, which has turned reddish due to earlier soil dumping. Abdul Halim Hasan, 66, said the water was once clear and popular for beach recreation and shellfish gathering, but has been discoloured since the area was filled with hill soil during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period over four years ago. 'The soil contained red-coloured stones, locally known as 'batu kawi'. When waves crash into the area, the particles are stirred up, turning the water reddish,' he told Bernama. Although the reclamation was halted following intervention by the authorities, Abdul Halim said the damage continues as the exposed soil is still being eroded by waves. He added the pollution has also caused a significant decline in marine life, with shellfish nearly disappearing and fish catches dropping sharply. Zamri Shuib, 55, said daily catches have become barely enough to cover operating costs, with many species such as Korean shrimp and gelama fish now rare. 'Some days we make around RM100 and that's before deducting fuel, nets and labour. Sometimes we have to go 10 kilometres offshore just to get a modest catch, and even then, we're competing with large trawlers and drag nets. A stone barrier could help restore the area,' he said. Zamri acknowledged that a concrete seawall might be costly but suggested that at minimum, a rock cage or gabion wall could help stabilise the shoreline and reduce sediment pollution. Md Nazri Yahya, 57, added that erratic weather and the monsoon season from June to September further threaten the fishermen's livelihoods.

Sungai Pulai Helicopter Wreckage Removal Expected To Begin Tomorrow
ISKANDAR PUTERI, July 16 (Bernama) -- The operation to hoist the wreckage of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) helicopter that crashed into Sungai Pulai, Gelang Patah, is expected to begin at 8 am tomorrow, following a multi-agency coordination meeting today. The meeting was co-chaired by Johor Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) chief SAC Muhd Zailani Abdullah and Subang Air Operations Force (PGU) deputy commander (Operations) SAC Ahmad Lokman Abdul Hadi, and was attended by 25 officers from various relevant agencies. The agencies are the Putrajaya Air Accident Investigation Bureau (BSKU), Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), Johor Region Two Marine Police, Johor Port Authority, Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Ministry of Health (MOH), and Iskandar Puteri Police headquarters. An integrated operations command centre has also been set up near the crash site as the main control centre to coordinate daily tasks, including rescue, safety, and medical operations. A check by Bernama at the site found that, following the meeting, Muhd Zailani and Ahmad Lokman inspected the location of the helicopter wreckage by boat to assess technical requirements and safety aspects ahead of the hoisting operation. Several RMN diving team members are expected to conduct dives to examine the condition of the wreckage as an initial step before the hoisting operation, as well as to inspect their diving equipment. An ambulance was also on standby at the site for any rescue task. In the 10.15 am incident on Thursday, an AS355N helicopter belonging to the PDRM was involved in an accident during a flypast demonstration as part of the Multilateral Nuclear Security Detection Exercise (MITSATOM) 2025, which involved four countries - Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore. All five crew members were successfully rescued by the Marine Police.
