India will be tough to beat at home in Women's ODI World Cup: Alyssa Healy

India Today2 days ago
Australia skipper Alyssa Healy believes India will be a tough side to beat at the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup at home. Speaking about the favourites, Healy said India's recent form and familiarity with local conditions give them a clear edge. While she backed England to improve under new coach Charlotte Edwards, Healy pointed out that India's spin-heavy attack and strong home record make them serious contenders. With the World Cup being played across Indian venues, Healy expects the hosts to pose a big challenge to every opposition.advertisement"I wouldn't write England off just yet, I think they will find a groove under Lottie (Charlotte Edwards). But I think the way that India are playing, at home in those conditions, they are going to be really tough to beat,' Healy told reporters in Sydney on Thursday at the unveiling of Cricket Australia's new four-year partnership with Westpac.'At 35, it is not ideal'
The 35yearold has adopted a hybrid technique, blending traditional coaching methods with more efficient movement patterns behind the stumps. Healy will put these changes to the test in Australia A's upcoming ODI series against India A, aiming to prove her fitness ahead of the World Cup."I haven't actually kept in a competitive game since January and that's given me a little bit of time to tinker with a few things and make it a little bit easier on my body. We've been taught how to wicketkeep a certain way in this country for an extended period of time, and at the end of the day it's not overly efficient on our bodies and doing it at 35, it's not ideal,' Healy said."We've just been looking at ways to make it a little bit easier for my aging joints and trying to keep things moving the way they should. Without getting overly technical, (I've just adjusted) where I'm starting from, more than anything else,' Healy added.Australia are scheduled to begin their campaign in the Women's ODI World Cup on October 1 against New Zealand at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.- EndsMust Watch

Lionel Messi's India Visit Details: Venues, Dates, Timing And Ticket Prices

If all the pieces fall in place, football devotees in Kolkata will have the first sighting of iconic Lionel Messi after a decade, and the City of Joy will be the first stop in the Argentine's whirlwind journey across Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi, culminating in a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The sources privy to the development informed PTI that all arrangements have been finalised including booking the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, but an official confirmation from Messi is still awaited. "It's been finalised and we are waiting for an official announcement from Messi, maybe on his social media handle anytime soon," said the source. "As of now we have agreed on the proposed itinerary and we are just awaiting an official announcement from his social media, which would be in anytime soon,' the source added. As per the itinerary, Messi will land in Kolkata on the night of December 12 around 10pm and will stay for two days and one night -- the longest stop on his tour. Kolkata Leg: 70-ft statue, GOAT Cup with Ganguly The Argentina captain's Kolkata schedule on December 13 will begin at 9am with a meet-and-greet event, followed by the unveiling of a 70-feet statue of him at the Lake Town Sribhumi on VIP Road. Organisers claim this will be the first-ever and tallest statue of the World Cup winner anywhere in the world. He will then head to Eden Gardens, where the GOAT Concert and GOAT Cup will be held from 12 noon to 1.30pm. "I don't want to mislead people. So basically, it will be a celebration of Messi, a master class with Messi. He will play the GOAT Cup in a seven-side soft-ball, soft-touch game with Sourav Ganguly, Leander Paes, John Abraham, Bhaichung Bhutia among others. It will be a celebration play in respect of Messi,' the source explained. He hoped for a sellout crowd as it will be a fully ticketed event. "This will be at Eden. It will be a ticketing event. Denominations are yet to be decided. It would be a little expensive -- should not be less than Rs 3,500. "Entire stadium will be open, so, we can expect a full capacity of 68,000. For 1 hour 20 minutes Messi will be there with musical tribute, masterclass with kids," he added. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to felicitate Messi during the Eden Gardens programme. Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Delhi legs On the evening of December 13, Messi is slated to travel to Ahmedabad to attend a private event hosted by the Adani Foundation at their Shantigram headquarters. He will then reach Mumbai for events on December 14, including a meet-and-greet at CCI at 3.45pm, followed by the GOAT Concert and GOAT Cup at the Wankhede Stadium at 5.30pm. 'We've booked the Wankhede Stadium for the GOAT Cup at 5.45pm on December 14,' the source said. There were media reports suggesting that Messi could participate in a seven-a-side cricket match with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, but the source denied this. 'He is not going to play any cricket match in Mumbai. It will be only soft ball and soft touch with him. It will be a celebration of his journey with the presence of Indian celebrities.' Plans are also in place for Messi to interact with the Indian football team in Mumbai. "At Mumbai, we have planned an interaction with the Indian football team. Obviously, Sunil Chhetri and the Indian team moment that we have planned in Mumbai as per their respective availabilities,' the source said. Meeting with PM, Kotla celebration On December 15, Messi will be in New Delhi, where he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, followed by a GOAT Concert and GOAT Cup at Feroz Shah Kotla at 2.15pm. At each city, Messi will be conducting a 'masterclass' with children, aimed at inspiring the next generation of Indian footballers. "Messi will be imparting masterclass with kids at every centre. The main idea is to celebrate Messi's success, giving little bit, for instance 30 to 40 minutes to motivate the young generation of players. So, masterclass and interaction with Messi.' No Kerala stop =========== The source also dispelled rumours of a Kerala leg during Messi's visit. 'However, there will be no event in Kerala as earlier reported,' the source said. Messi is also expected to travel with a large entourage including footballers, though details remain under wraps. Flashback 2011 In wee hours of August 31, 2011, Messi made his first appearance in India, landing in Kolkata as hysteric fans gathered at the airport to welcome him. He was here with his team to play an exhibition match against Venezuela at the Salt Lake Stadium a match they won 1-0. Messi's arrival sparked 'Messi fever' in Kolkata, with thousands of fans lining the streets, donning Messi jerseys, and packing the 75,000-capacity stadium. 'Stay out of the way': Ravi Shastri, Mike Atherton criticise Akash Deep's send-off to Ben Duckett

Akash Deep of India celebrates after dismissing Ben Duckett of England. NEW DELHI: One of the more controversial moments of Day 2 at The Oval came not from bat or ball, but from an overly zealous send-off. During England's innings in the fifth and final Test, India's pacer Akash Deep dismissed Ben Duckett after an intense exchange — and celebrated by wrapping an arm around the batter's shoulder, flashing a grin and muttering a few words. Live Score: India vs England 5th Test It began when Duckett, in the heat of an entertaining Bazball-fuelled 43 off 38 balls, tried to rattle the young Indian quick, reportedly saying, "You cannot get me out in here." The opener followed it up with a cheeky reverse ramp, delighting the crowd. Akash Deep had Duckett caught behind by Dhruv Jurel and followed it up with a demonstrative send-off—fist-pump, shoulder grab, and all. While the moment seemed playful to some, former cricketers Michael Atherton and Ravi Shastri didn't see it that way. Speaking on Sky Sports, Atherton was blunt in his disapproval. 'Can you imagine doing that to Viv Richards or any number? I would have hated that. If a bowler puts his arms around me, having just dismissed me — stay out of the way,' he said. Poll Do you think Akash Deep's send-off to Ben Duckett crossed the line? Yes, it was inappropriate No, it was just playful It depends on the context Shastri, offering a cheeky quip in return, added, 'If Athers had put his hand around me getting me out, I'd have said, 'Get out of the way!'' But the former India coach quickly turned serious: "No, no physical contact. I mean Duckett at that moment of time might have been thinking something else. Another player with a feisty temperament wouldn't have liked it and could have done something which he would have regretted. Just because it's being watched by millions around the globe and the match referee will be forced to take action because of the rules and the rulebook." Atherton added that while passion on the field is welcome, cricket is a non-contact sport and boundaries must be respected. "It's a serious point actually that, as I say, it seemed good natured and I like to give cricketers maximum leeway on the field because it is an emotional, passionate game. I like to see them getting stuck in. I don't like the match referees getting involved but it's a non-contact sport and something like that will end in problems. So I think the match referee has to stamp that out," Atherton elaborated. While the moment between Akash and Duckett may have seemed harmless on the surface, the incident has sparked debate about the lines between competitive spirit and overstepping boundaries in modern cricket. "Why are you going?" Mohammed Siraj Asked Jasprit Bumrah. Reply Was...

As the Indian cricket team was getting ready for the Day 2 of the 5th Test against England, came an update from the BCCI. Fast-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was released from India's squad, after not being included in playing XI for the ongoing fifth Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test against England at The Oval, due to workload management, said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Bumrah wasn't spotted in the Indian team bus ahead of arriving at the venue for day two's play. 'Mr Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India's squad for the fifth Test of the series against England. The fifth and final Test of the series is underway at Kennington Oval, London,' said the BCCI in a statement on Friday. After the Day 2 eneded, with Indian bowlers giving a good account of themselves - with Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj picking four wickets each - Bumrah was again discussed. Siraj revealed in a video chat with BCCI that he a funny convesation with Bumrah. 'I asked Jassi bhai, 'Why are you going? Who will I hug when I take five wickets?' He said, 'I'm here, you take your five wickets!'' Siraj told BCCI. Before the five-match series began in England, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir said Bumrah wouldn't feature in more than three Tests on tour due to workload management. Bumrah featured in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, followed by the third and fourth games at Lord's and Old Trafford, Manchester, respectively. In three games, Bumrah picked 14 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls, coming off bowling 119.4 overs at an average of 26 to be the leading wicket-taker for India in the ongoing series. Bumrah could have been expected to play in the fifth Test at The Oval, but he wasn't included in the playing eleven. 'We obviously want to wheel him out, but we also want to respect where his body is at, and on the basis of that, we just felt that it wasn't worth including him in the squad. He has bowled a large number of overs, I know it doesn't always seem like that because he's only played three tests and he's only bowled in one innings in Manchester.' 'But if you look at the loads, he's bowled a lot of overs, and like he did say coming into the tour, he was going to be available for three games, and we just felt it was right on that call,' said India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate at the end of day one's play. India's updated squad for fifth Test: Shubman Gill (C), KL Rahul (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh, and N Jagadeesan (WK)
