Auburn football receives prediction to land top-10 wide receiver from 2026 class
The Tigers received great news earlier this week as four-star EDGE Jaquez Wilkes announced his commitment to Auburn's 2026 class, becoming the Tigers' top commitment and the fifth four-star to pledge to Auburn this cycle. Hugh Freeze and his coaching still have work to do in order to solidify a top-10 class, and help could be on its way according to a recent prediction from a recruiting expert.
Jeffrey Lee of Rivals submitted a prediction over the weekend that favors Auburn landing four-star wide receiver Jase Mathews ahead of his Aug. 8 commitment date. Lee's prediction stands at 55% after saying that Auburn "could be the team to beat less than two weeks before he commits."
Earlier this month, Mathews revealed that he will choose between Auburn, Ole Miss, LSU, and Texas A&M on Aug. 8. The Leakesville, Mississippi native said in a recent interview with Rivals that his relationship with head coach Hugh Freeze and director of recruiting Kenyetta Watson is keeping Auburn in the mix. However, his relationship with wide receivers coach Marcus Davis is the driving force of Mathews' interest in the Tigers late in his recruitment.
'(Marcus Davis) showed me things I can do to get better," Mathews said. "He also gave me some life tips outside of football and is telling me I'm a priority.'
Mathews is the No. 9 receiver in the 2026 class according to Rivals' industry ranking, and is the No. 4 recruit from the state of Mississippi. With Lee's prediction, Auburn now has a forecast of 78.9%, leading Ole Miss and LSU.

The Celtics shave off another $1.4 million off their cap space, while continuing to clean the books for 2026, and add a dogged defender in Dosunmu who fits their system better than Simons. Think of what Dosunmu will learn as Derrick White's understudy,' he wrote. Vucevic would be an interesting piece for the Celtics, as he has a somewhat similar skill set to Kristaps Porzingis. While Porzingis is much better, and tough to disagree with, Vucevic can also make shots from beyond the arc, so in that sense, they have some similarities. Dosunmu could also be a decent piece, and perhaps someone who could run the second unit, depending on what the Celtics want to do.

Report: Packers RB Emanuel Wilson avoids serious knee injury
Green Bay Packers running back Emanuel Wilson avoided a serious knee injury at Friday's practice and shouldn't miss much time, according to reporting from Bill Huber of Wilson, the team's backup running back behind Josh Jacobs last season, went down awkwardly while attempting to catch a pass during a team period on Friday. Despite initial concerns of a major injury, it appears Wilson avoided a worst-case scenario and will eventually return during training camp. Huber described the injury as a "tweak" and reported there is "no damage" inside the knee. The Packers are already without running back MarShawn Lloyd, who injured his groin during the team's first padded practice of the week and is expected to miss time into next week. Wilson rushed 103 times for 502 yards and four touchdowns and caught 11 passes for 48 yards and another touchdown across 17 games last season. The Packers also have veteran Chris Brooks, rookies Jalen White and Amir Johnson and recent addition Israel Abanikanda at running back behind Jacobs entering the team's Family Night practice at Lambeau Field on Saturday. Statue of Birmingham City legend Francis unveiled
A bronze statue of former Birmingham City and England forward Trevor Francis has been unveiled at the club's St Andrews stadium to honour his legacy. The former striker died of a heart attack at the age of 69 in 2023 and the statue was unveiled on Saturday ahead of the Trevor Francis Memorial pre-season friendly against Nottingham Forest, another of his former clubs. A friend of the footballer and lifelong Blues supporter, Brummie comedian Jasper Carrott, was at the unveiling. He said it was "a very emotional day". Carrott said Francis had been "more than just a footballer", adding he was a fantastic human being and it had been a "privilege" to know him. Several former teammates who played alongside Francis were also there as club chief executive Jeremy Dale unveiled the statue, created by sculptor Douglas Jennings. "He wasn't just a footballer, he was our footballer," Dale said. "Trevor, speaking personally , was my boyhood hero. He was the kind of player who made you fall in love with the beautiful game." Speaking of Francis in his time as manager of the Blues, he said he gave people "pride, passion and a belief that this club could rise". Francis made his debut for Birmingham as a 16-year-old and became British football's first £1m player when he left the Blues to join Forest in 1979. A few weeks later, he scored the winning goal as Forest won the first of their two successive European Cups. Garry Birtles, who played alongside Francis at Nottingham Forest, described him as "one of the most unassuming people you could ever meet" and "a joy to be with". Jasper Carrott hosted a sell-out memorial concert in to honour Francis as "a proper send-off" for his friend at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham earlier this year. Money raised went to the Trevor Francis Foundation, part of the Birmingham City Foundation, to fund two football tournaments for local children.
