
Volkswagen Amarok 10 Deserts Edition arrives alongside price cuts across the MY25 ute lineup
The entry-level Amarok Core TDI405 Core is now priced at $55,990 drive-away – $1000 more than its previous list price which did not include on-road costs, effectively making it up to $4000 cheaper than before.

The limited-edition 10 Deserts Edition TDI500 joins the lineup at $69,990 drive-away, positioned between the Amarok Life TDI500 ($61,990 drive-away) and the Style TDI500 ($72,740 drive-away).
The new model grade was inspired by the Guiness World Record set by a Volkswagen Amarok – using a modified V6 – after it crossed Australia's 10 deserts in six days and 17 hours.
"With the 10 Deserts Edition, the refinement of the Amarok has been given a tougher edge, offering genuine off-road ability and benchmark ground clearance, while still being a premium-appointed ute that drivers want to be in," said Volkswagen Australia commercial vehicles product manager Michael Cenci.
The 10 Deserts Edition brings off-road focused upgrades including 17-inch satin black wheels wrapped in Continental ATR (all-terrain) tyres, a 40mm suspension lift and extra underbody protection.
The changes bring 275mm of ground clearance – 3mm more than the Ford Ranger Raptor and a healthy increase from the rest of the Amarok range's 235mm.
A black sports bar, soft tonneau cover, floor mats and special decals complete the 10 Deserts Edition treatment.
Other changes for the MY25 Amarok lineup include a 230V power socket in the tub of Style, PanAmericana and Aventura grades, facilitated by a 400W invertor that enables electrical appliances, laptops and battery packs to be plugged in.
The same model grades also now come with Trailer Assist as standard, which Volkswagen says has been updated to work more seamlessly with the Amarok's Rear Traffic Alert system.
There are no changes on the outside apart from a new Reed Green Metallic paint colour, which replaces Mid Blue Metallic on the Amarok colour chart.
Cab/chassis Core, Life and Style variants are fitted with a factory alloy tray measuring 1900mm long and 1835mm wide, with a 1650mm internal length, for an additional $4000 over their pickup equivalents.
A 243kg steel tray can also be added as a dealer-fit option instead of the alloy tray, which has an official weight of 132kg, and both tubs are covered by Volkswagen Australia's five-year, unlimited-kilometre new vehicle warranty.

In many ways, this is a little like Volkswagen reversing back to proper switchgear rather than the fiddly touch-sensitive buttons. The front-mid-mounted V8 is a stellar throwback to the heyday of the combustion engine, and the visual approach follows suit. At first glance, it's clear that Flavio Manzoni, chief design officer for the Ferrari Styling Centre and his team, have taken immense inspiration from the Roma, albeit with a few new features. Compared to the curvy lines of the earlier model, the Amalfi introduces some added sharpness to the design, most notably on the front-end. The bonnet is seamless and the haunches are less pronounced now but the basic simplicity of the Roma has been preserved here too. Ferrari describes the exterior as a 'sleek, monolithic speedform that gives the car a strong and dynamic identity'. The front, devoid of a traditional grille, is distinguished by a 'floating body-coloured wing' above a dark recessed band, discreetly integrating sensors and headlights. Of course, you can't go past the launch colour, Verde Costiera, which is a stunning teal green hue inspired by the reflections of the sea along the Amalfi coast. Hence, the 0-100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds is just 0.1 second quicker than the Roma, but to focus solely on that figure would be to entirely miss the point. The Amalfi is not so much a track car built to decimate lap times, despite its ample power, but rather a true evolution of the Grand Tourer concept. A high-performance framework, built on the architecture of a versatile everyday driver, the 2026 Ferrari Amalfi is every bit the ultimate Ferrari indulgence. It even retains some staple elements that many would have thought long gone. Of course, the twin-turbo V8 architecture remains paramount, but the Italian marquee has also opted to stay true to the 8-speed dual-clutch. Instead, the vast majority of changes were concentrated on making the engine more responsive, providing quicker acceleration through the gears. Look a little closer and you might even notice the new aero elements that help to feed more air to the turbochargers. It's an inherently positive move, particularly when you consider the Amalfi's positioning within the Ferrari portfolio. While official pricing has yet to be confirmed, it's likely that this new vehicle will slot in at the very end of the buying catalogue, serving as a unique entry point for many first-time Ferrari buyers. Once in the driver's seat, the new 10-25-inch touchscreen dominates the view and is flanked by a new centre console milled from a single block of aluminium. There is still a three-screen affair, including one for the passenger, but the cabin now has far more drama, despite still being practical. Ferrari also explained that you can even spec 'comfort seats' with various adjustments, including a massage setting that will no doubt settle the nerves as you devour the winding, unkempt roads of the South of France (we assume). 2025 BWM X3 review
My fiance has been on my case for years about us buying a BMW, and for as long as I can remember, I've said no. I've always gravitated towards German brands like Mercedes or Volkswagen. But as with many things, he was right. This isn't just another family-hauling or school-run warrior, this is an SUV that has nailed design, performance and technology. It's an SUV that quickly became natural to me. There was no awkward adjustment period, no fumbling around trying to get comfortable, this is a car that immediately felt like home. That's rare. The 2025 line-up includes the X3 20 xDrive ($86,100 plus on road costs), which is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit capable of producing 140kW and 310Nm. The mid-tier option is the 30e xDrive ($104,100) which combines a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and high-voltage battery, delivering 220kW and 450Nm. This model also features a 19.7kWh battery offering an electric driving range of 91km. The top spec, the X3 M50 xDrive ($128,900) which replaces the outgoing M40i and is powered by an updated 3.0-litre twin turbocharged straight six, producing 298kW and 580Nm thanks to a 48-volt mild hybrid system. That's enough to rock this 1980kg SUV from 0-100km/g in just 4.6 seconds, seriously quick for something of this size. MORE AGGRESSIVE This generation is longer, wider and lower, giving it more of an aggressive stance on the road. It has a different look to the Audi Q5 or Mercedes-AMG GLC 43, it's more commanding. The 14.9-inch curved digital display and 12.3-inch digital drivers display is crisp, high tech and most importantly so easy to use! The X3 M50 was a dream to drive, the adaptive M Suspension strikes an excellent balance between control and handling, even on some of the patchy roads of Mornington Peninsula. You can feel a real difference in sports mode, which stiffens the steering and suspension. I opted for the softer settings for a more composed drive. The other driving modes like 'Expressive' and 'Art' seem a little useless, albeit nice and not something I think drivers will use consistently. Thanks to well placed shortcuts, there's no deep menu diving while driving. The storage and functionality is a big tick, there are countless storage compartments. Two wireless charging pads, two USB-C ports, four cupholders and even a jewellery box (an extra storage space in the middle console). Brilliant. There's also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a premium 15 speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, heads up display, smartphone key access and adaptive LED headlights. The M50's cabin feels premium, with tri-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof as standard. THE REAL DEAL The upholstery is synthetic leather. If you want real leather you'll need to fork out an extra $4,000 but the synthetic is perfectly comfortable and feels premium. BMW has delivered on the upholstery and colour choices with all the options feeling sophisticated and on trend for 2025. Rear space is generous, with heated outer seats and plenty of legroom. Luggage space is terrific with 570 litres, expanding to 1700 litres with the seats folded – more than enough for school runs or weekend getaways. There's plenty of safety features including adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist and a 360 degree camera system. The Driving Assistant Professional suite even offers auto lane changes, simply requiring a flick of the indicator to execute smoothly. So to cut to the chase, does the BMW X3 M50 xDrive live up to the $128,900 asking price? Yes. At $128,900 plus on-road costs, the X3 M50 is priced on the higher side, going head to head with Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 and the Audi SQ5. But you're paying for what you get, a premium SUV, an engaging drive, a bold new design and plenty of everyday practicality. If you're looking for a luxurious SUV then the X3 should be at the top of your list.

Why the Genesis GV70 is a CarExpert Choice winner
The Genesis GV70 may be the fledgling luxury brand's best-selling model in Australia, but it doesn't sell in the same volumes as rivals from Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz – and we reckon that ought to change. We chose the GV70 as Australia's best mid-size luxury SUV in our inaugural 2025 CarExpert Choice Awards, ahead of the higher-volume BMW X3 and Lexus NX which were finalists for the title. "While Genesis struggles with its brand awareness and allure, the Genesis GV70 has been the best mid-size luxury SUV since it first came to the Australian market in 2021," said CarExpert founder Alborz Fallah. "Last year, it underwent a mid-life update that has further improved its offering, interior and packaging, making it the clear CarExpert choice in its segment." This update didn't mess with the distinctive exterior styling, instead bringing an overhauled interior with a huge 27-inch OLED display, as well as an expanded suite of active safety and driver assist technology, plus mechanical enhancements such as retuned suspension. Genesis says the result is a quieter, more rigid vehicle with more technology than ever before. "The Genesis GV70 is arguably the brand's best product right now, offering strong value against legacy premium competition as well as a wide spread of variants and powertrains," said marketplace editor James Wong. "It looks and feels special, offers heaps of features and tech, and goes to great lengths to differentiate itself from any Hyundai product. It's also great to drive, if a little thirsty in the petrol grades." Petrol engines comprise a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder and a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6, while Genesis also offers a dual-motor all-wheel drive electric version called the Electrified GV70, which was also recently updated. As we noted in our recent review, in 3.5T guise you can get performance comparable to the BMW X3 M50 or Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 for around $20,000-30,000 less, despite more equipment and technology and a better aftersales package. Genesis may have a smaller dealer network than the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz, but it includes five years of free scheduled servicing with its vehicles. If you live within 70km of a Genesis outlet, a member of the company's concierge team will also collect your car for its service and leave you with a Genesis courtesy car. This is in addition to a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, which has become the standard in the luxury car market. Genesis has a fixed-pricing model like Mercedes-Benz, but while you can't haggle on price, even the base GV70 comes with an enormous list of standard equipment including a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a hands-free power tailgate. With a base price of $78,700 before on-roads, the GV70 is over $10,000 cheaper than a significantly less powerful, less well-equipped entry-level Mercedes-Benz GLC and around $8000 cheaper than the most affordable BMW X3. It also matches those vehicles with a rear/all-wheel drive platform not shared with any non-luxury models. Would we love to see a more efficient powertrain to match the Lexus NX's hybrid or Audi Q5's diesel options? Absolutely, particularly given Genesis dropped the thrifty turbo-diesel previously offered here. We'd also love to see more Genesis retail outlets in Australia, though the brand is continuing to expand its network. But even as it is, the GV70 stands out in this segment for its rich mix of value for money, excellent technology, first-class refinement, engaging dynamics and distinctive styling. That's why it's our choice among luxury mid-size SUVs.
