Droupadi Murmu Gets Emotional After Visually Impaired Students Wish Her On Birthday
President Mumru arrived in Dehradun on a three-day visit during which she will open to the public the Presidential Niketan.
President Droupadi Murmu on Friday got emotional after the students of the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities extended birthday wishes to her with a song.
As per the visuals shared by news agency ANI, Murmu was seen getting emotional and teary eyed after students with visual disabilities sang a birthday song for her.

President Mumru arrived in Dehradun on a three-day visit during which she will open to the public the Presidential Niketan. She will also lay the foundation stone of the President's Park and release a book on the biodiversity of Presidential Niketan.
President Murmu will also participate in a state government program on International Day of Yoga on Saturday.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and a host of leaders across the political spectrum greeted the President on her 67th birthday.

The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also extended birthday wishes to her , and prayed for her long and healthy life.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi wrote, 'Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Honourable President Draupadi Murmu ji on her birthday."

'Rahul Gandhi Can't Be Witness Against Himself': Court In Defamation Case
New Delhi: A court in Pune has rejected a petitioner's request to get a copy of a book which Congress MP Rahul Gandhi cited during a speech in March 2023, which led to the filing of a defamation case against the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Satyaki Savarkar, the grand nephew of Vinayak Savarkar, filed the petition in a special MP/MLA court in Pune seeking a copy of the book which Mr Gandhi used while attacking Vinayak Savarkar. The court, however, rejected the petition, saying the "accused cannot be compelled to be a witness against himself, nor can he be compelled to produce incriminating material against him." The court said the trial has not yet started, so the defence cannot be compelled to disclose documents. "... The burden of proof lies entirely on the complainant. The accused is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty. If the application is allowed, it would cause serious prejudice to the accused's right to a fair trial and his right to defend himself effectively," judicial magistrate first class Amol Shriram Shinde said in the order. "Forcing the defence to prematurely disclose defence materials is neither permitted under criminal procedure nor compatible with constitutional guarantees. It would violate the constitutional right provided under Article 20(3) of the Constitution," the court said. The defamation case against Mr Gandhi alleged he had on several occasions maligned Vinayak Savarkar, and one particular incident in March 2023 during a speech in the UK crossed the limit. As per Article 20(3) of the Constitution, no person accused of any offence shall be compelled to be a witness against himself, the court said. "Therefore, this court is of the opinion that an order cannot be passed directing the accused to file the incriminating documents. The documents in question are incriminating in nature and are sought to be produced against the accused. "The accused cannot be compelled to be a witness against himself, nor can he be compelled to produce incriminating material against him. Hence, the application filed by the complainant is liable to be rejected and is accordingly rejected," the court said.

Opposition slams EC over special intensive revision of electoral rolls
The Congress, along with its allies such as the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Left parties, on Thursday launched a fresh attack on the Election Commission (EC) over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, accusing the poll body of conspiring to deprive 20 per cent of the population of their voting rights, and asked it not to act at the behest of the ruling party. Addressing a press conference here, Congress' media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said the EC should act within the limits set by the Constitution and be a "slave" to democracy and voters, not the BJP. On Wednesday, leaders of several INDIA bloc parties met the EC over the SIR issue and raised concerns over its timing, alleging that over 20 million voters in the state could be disenfranchised by this mammoth exercise being conducted just ahead of the assembly elections. The Election Commission on Thursday said it had met representatives of various political parties on Wednesday and heard their concerns, issues, and queries raised by them, and "decoded for them the entire special intensive revision". The EC told the parties that the exercise is being held in a planned, structured, and phased manner to facilitate the inclusion of all eligible citizens. In the first phase, from June 25 to July 3, enumeration forms are being printed and distributed to the approximately 79 million electors in Bihar. In the second phase, the enumeration forms will be filled and are to be submitted before July 25. Electors whose names appear in the electoral roll as of January 1, 2003, are only required to submit the enumeration forms along with an extract of the roll. They don't have to submit any other documents. Those not listed in the 2003 roll will need to submit one of 11 documents for their date of birth/place of birth. In the fourth phase, the draft electoral roll will be published on August 1. The final electoral roll will be published on September 30.

New Delhi: There will be no bar on Pakistan sports teams travelling to India for international events despite the low in bilateral ties following the Pahalgam terror attack and India responding with Operation Sindoor, sports ministry sources said on Thursday. 'For international sports no one is barred from going,' the sources said. The government also is conscious of its build-up to bidding for the 2036 Olympics and would not like any step to hurt its image as a welcoming country for sports. 'It won't be nice in the international sports world (if there are any such restrictions),' the officials said. The cabinet approved the new sports policy this week which the union sports ministry is confident will usher in a '360 degrees reform' in Indian sports. The sports ministry has prepared a roadmap for the implementation of the wide-ranging aspects addressed by the policy document and a monitoring group comprising the sports, education and culture ministries will be set up for development of sports at the grassroots. While the government acknowledges the role states have in education, and sports in these institutions, the ministry sources also said: 'Sports is a state subject but international sports is a central subject.' A Khelo India Water Sports Festival will be held in Srinagar's Dal Lake from August 21-23.
