Mystery as Indian woman arrives in US for arranged marriage... then vanishes

Daily Maila day ago
Police are desperately searching for a young woman who flew to the US from India, reportedly for an arranged marriage, before vanishing without a trace.
Simran Simran, 24, arrived in the US on June 20 for a 'reported prearranged marriage,' according to the Lindenwold Police Department in New Jersey, which is outside of Philadelphia.
Police are investigating her disappearance and believe that she used the arranged marriage for free airfare to the US.
Simran was last seen on surveillance camera footage wearing gray sweatpants, a white T-shirt, black flip-flops, and a small diamond-studded earring.
Police noted that she 'did not seem in distress' on the surveillance footage. Simran was pictured on her phone and appeared to be waiting for someone before she disappeared.
Authorities haven't released the identity of the person she was arranged to marry, and it is unclear who reported her missing.
Lindenwold Police said there were no known family members in India for them to contact.
Simran doesn't speak English and only has an international phone that allows her to send texts and make calls on Wi-Fi.
Police are now asking for help in the search for the missing woman. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Joe Tomasetti or leave an anonymous tip with the Lindenwold Police.
Authorities are asking the public to remain on the lookout for Simran, who is described as weighing approximately 150lbs and is around 5'4. She also has a small scar on the left side of her forehead.
Daily Mail has reached out to Lindenwold Police for an update on the case.
Although arranged marriages can be considered taboo in American culture, they are widespread in countries like Bangladesh, China, and India, according to the World Population Review.
Arranged marriages are legal in the US and are typically recognized by the federal government.
Petitions for citizenship through marriage are reviewed by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services for validity.
Couples must file an I-130 form with photos together over the last year, which can include screenshots of video calls.
Although arranged marriages can be accepted under immigration law, USCIS warns that forced marriages are illegal.

Countdown (2025) – Season 1 Episode 4 'Bite ‘Em Down' Recap & Review

Episode 4 Episode 4 of Countdown begins with the task force combing the burnt-down dance hall while Mark rides the ambulance with Officer Damon Drew. He looks worried as Drew's breathing gets shallow. Unfortunately, Drew dies during surgery. While the LAPD goes after Mikhail, Blythe reminds the task force not to waste his sacrifice and to continue with the mission. Mark fills them in that he saw some blueprints, the map of the LA port and the name, Gallagher. With the death of Drew, DA Valwell gets a chance to report the task force which leads to the LAPD asking for Mark and Finau back. Furious, Blythe confronts Valwell and warns him to back off and drop the complaint. Mikhail and Borys meet but we learn that the former is not interested in the terrorist attacks and cares about his family and money. He backs down when Borys threatens him, reminding him of the importance of their mission. Back at the base, Bell checks in on Shepherd who had to tell Cora, Drew's widow, the news of her husband's death. Mark regrets his reckless undercover plan but Oliveras comforts him with some tough love. Shepherd is able to trace Mikhail's identity and they go after him. They find his wife, Tatsiana, who is trying to run. They bring her in and she plays the crying, naive wife but they don't buy it. They threaten to charge her as an accomplice and she breaks. She sets up a meeting with Mikhail in Chinatown. He shows up but on seeing her expression, he knows something is wrong. He spots Bell and then recognises Mark. A chase ensues before they catch him. Meanwhile, Blythe asks Bell about Valwell. Turns out Valwell is one of the good guys. Early in his career, he helped get a conviction on a really risky case that no one wanted to touch and bring justice to the victims. Drew's desk is cleared and Shepherd looks sad as she takes his Little League cap. Onto the interrogation, Mikhail doesn't give them anything and doesn't even blink at the threats to his wife. To find dirt, the task force looks into the driver, Dmitry who drove Timur and Mark to Mikhail's dance hall. Fortunately, Shepherd and Bell are able to track him. They show up at his workplace and another chase ensues but Mark easily catches him. Oliveras plants some heroin on him and makes up false charges. Mark is surprised but goes with her plan. They finally find leverage – Mikhail's illegitimate daughter, Anya. As they head back to base, Mark asks about the heroin but Oliveras shuts him down. Shepherd wants to take the lead as she looks like Anya and the team agrees. Blythe plays the bad cop while Shepherd plays the good cop who cares about Anya's future. Mikhail breaks and tells them about Volchek but he doesn't know much except that he has patriotic motives. He sets up a meeting with Borys at a private airport but the task force ends up arresting a decoy. The real Borys is sitting in the cinema. A flashback shows him spotting the task force while Mikhail sets up their meeting. At present, he looks disgusted as the other cinemagoers laugh during the movie. At the end of Countdown Episode 4, Blythe promises that they will break the case. Cora arrives and begs the task force not to let Drew's sacrifice go to waste. They hold a mini-funeral for him in the office. The Episode Review So, we know two things with Countdown Episode 4. Without a doubt, Jensen Ackles is the best part of this Amazon Original. His dry humour, his sarcastic remarks and jokes are the highlights of the episodes. And when that is dialled down, like in this sombre chapter, it is sorely missed. But even without the snark, he keeps the show running as he is a good actor and it doesn't hurt that he is pretty to look at. Second, Countdown is, after all, an ensemble story but a poorly written one. We hadn't been sure, since the first 3 episodes had majorly focused on Mark and Oliveras, with a little bit of Blythe. But in Episode 4, all the task force members get enough screen time. Yet we barely learn anything about them. It is why Drew's death and the team's reaction to it don't have any impact. We do see the little filler moments such as Finau smiling at Mark's joke during the wife's interrogation and Bell checking on Shepherd. But the focus is constantly on the action, simply furthering the plot without fleshing out the rest of the task force. It doesn't help that the story is actually not that great either. Despite being the best of the best, both Mikhail and Borys spot the task force during the set-ups. Blythe makes an ambiguous threat and Valwell easily drops the report. There are many shows where the plot isn't great but it works because of the likeable characters. A shame that Countdown doesn't invest in character development. Instead, Borys and Valwell contribute more to the plot than Shepherd, Finau and Bell. The structure is all over the place and it seems that next week, Mark and Oliveras will regain the spotlight as they infiltrate a party. It is too early to tell but this show may not be for fans of Violett Beane, Elliot Knight and Uli Latukefu. Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Poker Face – Season 2 Episode 10 'The Big Pump' Recap & Review

Episode 10 The Murder Episode 10 of Poker Face Season 2 begins in a gym run by a man named Brick, who claims the place is all-natural and environmentally sustainable. He's approached by one of his members, Rodney, who wants to get ripped quickly. His high school reunion is coming up and he wants to impress. He's also seen the other members talk about the 'good stuff' they get from Brick and wants in on it, even if it's drugs. Brick agrees and goes inside his office, where we see bills scattered on his desk. He tells his wife Lily that he needs more of the 'good stuff' which turns out to be breast milk! His wife works at a birth centre and steals breast milk from there for a few select gym members. Turns out, Brick really needs the money. However, when Lily realises it's for Rodney, she reminds Brick that Rodney is a health inspector. So, Brick gives Rodney a bag of whey instead. But two weeks later, Rodney hasn't seen much improvement. He sees another gym member break the record and, when no one's looking, takes a sniff of his bottle. That evening, he confronts Brick about selling breast milk which is teeming with bacteria and stealing from mothers and babies. He tells Brick he's going to turn him in. Brick grabs the bottle from him and drains the liquid, leading to a fight between them. Brick throws a metal disc at him, which hits Rodney right in the throat. Knowing he will ruin his life, Brick lets Rodney pass out and then makes it look like he was doing a bench press. He then drops a heavy weight right on Rodney's neck, so his death seems like a bench press accident. Brick then waits till some other members find Rodney's body. The Investigation Charlie wakes up, still in Good Buddy's NYC apartment from the previous episode. She stretches and immediately cricks her neck. She heads to a café and bumps into Alex, the woman who gave her a free drink in the previous episode. They get to talking and when Charlie sees a flyer of Brick's gym, they go together. Brick fixes Charlie's neck in a second and then convinces the two women to take up his free 7-day trial. They get the gym's fitness tracking watches, which also let them become each other's friends on the app. Rodney sees Alex trying to bench press and warns her to always use a spotter. He chats with her and Charlie for a bit and leaves them when he spots one of the other gym members' drink bottles. Charlie leaves with a workout high and decides to go back the next day. But when she and Alex arrive, the police are all over the place. Alex thinks there's something suspicious about his death but Charlie, for once, wants to leave it alone. Alex asks about working out together anyway but Charlie says she's a lone wolf and would rather spend time on her own. When the gym reopens, Brick tells his wife that the milk is almost over but with the police around, she refuses to get more. Not wanting to lose his clientele, Brick starts giving them bottles with infant formula instead. At the gym, Charlie turns up to work out with Alex anyway. They spot one of the gym members, Kevin, complaining to Brick about the milk (although they don't know what he's talking about). Charlie tells Alex about her lie detection skills. Next time Brick goes by, Alex talks to him and Charlie realises he is lying about something. They snoop around and find the baby formula but don't think much of it since Brick's wife works at the birth centre. They're soon interrupted by Brick and scurry off but later on, Alex reveals she swiped Brick's key card and wants to snoop around at night. But Charlie knows how dangerous this can get and refuses to do so. When she's at the nearby café, she sees some of the gym members complaining of headaches and upset stomachs. She also sees a baby nearby and recognises that Kevin had the same smell as the baby when she had passed by him — the smell of breast milk! Charlie goes back and chats with Brick, learning from the conversation that he was lying about not being there at the gym the night Rodney died. She then taps her watch to Brick's, making them fitness friends. She hides in the sauna and goes through Brick's workout history, ultimately finding the leader board that shows Brick broke a new record at the time Rodney died. In her a-ha moment, she taps on it and 'hearts' the record. Brick gets the notification and realises she's on to him. He locks her inside the sauna, turns the heat up, and then rushes the other members out of the gym by claiming a gas leak. Charlie begins to do various exercises, which sends notifications to her fitness friend Alex. Alex sees the exercises and realises they spell out HALP. She figures it out and gets into the gym using Brick's card, managing to save Charlie just in time. But Brick catches them leaving and starts attacking them. He's going to deal a final blow when Lily shows up and he breaks down in tears. She tells the two women to call the police while she holds on to her wailing husband. Afterwards, Alex and Charlie go out for a bite and Charlie muses about how Alex hasn't told a single lie the whole time they spent together. Alex claims that she never lies, which is why she doesn't have friends, as most people can't handle the truth. Charlie then proclaims to be her friend. The Episode Review Episode 10 is another solid Poker Face episode. Interestingly, at first, you can't quite tell which of the two men is going to be murdered. It can swing either way and that unpredictability is nice! The rest of the episode has a couple of nice twists too, like the 'good stuff' being breast milk and Rodney being a health inspector. Like the other Poker Face episodes, the details really come into play here such as the fitness tracking watches and even Brick's tendency to not listen to what Rodney's actually saying. One minor gripe is that the end is wrapped up a bit too quickly, with Brick's wife turning on him way too fast. But aside from that, it's a tightly written, engaging episode. Even more so because Charlie is, for once, in the same place she was in the previous episode! It's an intriguing new phase for Charlie to be in the same area and in this one she's even gone and made a new friend. While the murder and investigation was pretty fun, the real question is what's going to Charlie do next? Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Horror discovery in rusting barnacle-covered car hauled from water sparks major breakthrough in 15-year-old cold case

A RUSTING barnacle-covered car hauled from a lake could be a major breakthrough in a 15-year-old cold case. Specialist divers Dan Pritchard and his scuba partner Bill McIntosh made the horrific discovery when they unearthed the sunken Chrysler at a Long Island beach. 2 2 The dive team believe they found the human remains of resident Robert Long, who went missing in December 2010 aged 62. Long was on his way to the local liquor store when he was reported missing. Over a decade later, specialists believe they have found the remains of his body inside a submerged Chrysler PT Cruiser at Cedar Beach. Monday's discovery launched an urgent investigation by Suffolk Couny Police who have sent the remains for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The remains have yet to be identified. Detective Lt. Kevin Beyrer said on Tuesday afternoon: 'There is a missing person who we suspect this driver to be. 'We made a courtesy notification to the family, but we have not definitively made any sort of identification.' The pair of divers reportedly used kayaks equipped with special side-scan sonar devices in the search. Sonar systems are used to create an image of large areas of the sea floor. After several hours, they found what appeared to be human bones inside the rusting vehicle. They promptly called the police who performed their own search and pulled the vehicle out of the water with a crane. A force spokesman told the New York Post: 'We started this morning with the Marine Bureau divers going into the water at low tide. 'They examined the interior of the vehicle and tried to recover whatever they could from within the vehicle.' The shock discovery comes just weeks after a suspected human bone was found washed up in Rhode Island, near Taylor Swift's beachside mansion. The gruesome find came after c ops were called to the ritzy Watch Hill neighborhood at about 9:30am. The remains were transferred to the Rhode Island Medical Examiner's Office, said the Westerly Police Department Detective Division. Taylor Day, a Westerly resident, said she saw three police cars and a medical examiner "pulling in behind me." Day said, 'It was probably a couple football fields away from Taylor Swift's house and the Ocean House. "I would never expect anything like that — especially not in Watch Hill.' She added, 'It kind of alarmed me, and it was just something very out of the ordinary for Westerly." Police do not suspect foul play, but Day said she would "definitely disagree with that."
