Rafizi clocks into office for the last time
The Pandan member of parliament, via a post on X, said he was at the office to resolve several issues, including to 'clean up his office.'
"I was in the office for the final time yesterday to handle some outstanding issues as well as to clean up," he said.
Previously, Rafizi had submitted his resignation letter shortly after his defeat in the PKR deputy presidency race last month.
Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who is the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, later followed suit.
However, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday said he hoped that the two would reconsider their decision.
He said he had only approved their leave for now, and would personally prefer it if they rejoined the Cabinet.
Meanwhile, in the same posting, Rafizi also thanked his officers, whom he credited as being the prime movers behind many of the ministry's initiatives.
"These are the people whom I had convinced to leave their respective fields and come serve with me.
"From chilli to semiconductors, to startup ecosystems, the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JSSEZ), National Energy Transition Plan (NETR), progressive wages up to the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), they had translated many of my ideas into reality," he said.
His team had comprised Dr Azraai Bahari Nasruddin, an endocrinologist from the University of Cambridge; and Benjamin Quek, a fund manager who graduated in banking and finance from Monash University and Johns Hopkins University.
He also mentioned James Chai, a University of London and Oxford University law graduate and author; Ismaty Qayyum, a Politics, Philosophy and Economy graduate from the London School of Economics; and Haqimi Zamri a Politics and International Relations graduate from the University of Nottingham.
"I learned many things from them, perhaps even more than what they learned from me," he said.

"We are now entering a crucial moment -- like the final inning of a ball game," lead negotiator for Taiwan Cheng Li-chiun said on Sunday in a statement issued by the Cabinet, Focus Taiwan reported. Cheng reiterated Taiwan's commitment to protecting national and industrial interests, while aiming to enhance trade and deepen ties with the US. Cheng returned to Taiwan early Saturday after completing a third round of in-person tariff talks with US officials, according to the statement. Both sides reached consensus on "several key topics," though no details were provided, and a fourth round of talks has been tentatively scheduled. Trump had announced a 32 per cent blanket import tax on most Taiwanese goods in early April, along with similar measures targeting over 170 countries. Although he initially paused the duties for 90 days, the deadline was extended to Aug 1. Earlier, Taiwan's leader Lai Ching-te said Taipei will not retaliate and instead increase imports from the US and boost investments there to help reduce the trade deficit.

Johor exco: State hopeful of positive outcome from federal govt-US trade talks
JOHOR BARU, July 13 — The Johor government is optimistic that ongoing trade negotiations between the federal government and the United States will yield mutually beneficial outcomes, said Lee Ting Han. The state Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman said a positive outcome was crucial for Johor. 'Johor is directly impacted by the coming trade tariffs as we are among the biggest export contributors in petrochemicals, semiconductors, electrical and electronic goods, and furniture to the US. 'At present, it's a wait-and-see situation for us before the deadline next month. 'We hope that the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti) can deliver some good news after their negotiations with their US counterparts,' he told reporters on the sidelines of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia's (ACCCIM) 79th annual general meeting at the Thistle Hotel here today. Miti is currently in talks with US trade representatives to address unresolved issues, clarify the scope and impact of the announced tariffs, and work towards concluding the negotiations. The US is expected to impose a 25 per cent reciprocal tariff on Malaysian exports, set to take effect on August 1. Lee said the state government would refrain from making further comments until after the tariffs are implemented. 'It's still early for the state government to comment further on this issue. 'Depending on the outcome of the negotiations, we will address the tariff's impact with the various industries in the state,' he said. On the issue of inflation in Johor, Lee said it was being addressed as a preventive measure led by the menteri besar. He said Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi had taken public concerns seriously and was proactive in tackling the matter. 'For Onn Hafiz, prevention is better than cure. He also doesn't want to see inflation becoming a major issue once the Johor Baru–Singapore Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link) and the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) are completed. 'With that, the menteri besar has also tasked the state government with developing strategies to curb the rising cost of living,' he said.

Calls mount for PKR to suspend 9 MPs over RCI push
KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) division chiefs in Kedah have called for disciplinary action and the immediate suspension of nine PKR Members of Parliament who recently held a press conference urging the government to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into judicial appointments. In a joint statement, the division chiefs said the actions of the nine MPs breached party discipline and violated the PKR Members' Code of Ethics under Articles 10.1 and 10.2 of the party constitution. These provisions outline the responsibility of members to safeguard the party's reputation, comply with its decisions, and avoid internal sabotage. "We fully support the grassroots demand for the immediate suspension of the nine MPs and urge the Party Disciplinary Committee to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action without delay. "We also reaffirm our commitment to stand firmly with the party president and PKR leadership in advancing the reform agenda and strengthening national institutions," the statement read. The joint statement was signed by Sik division chief Habib Ahmad Muhaiyuddin, S. Poobalan (Jerai), Mohd Tahar Hussin (Padang Terap), Ismail Wasi Ahmad Shafawi (Langkawi), and Azizi Azizan (Kubang Pasu). Also signing were Shakir Sheik Lukman (Kuala Kedah), Chandar M. "We believe internal mechanisms such as the Political Bureau and Central Leadership Council (MPP) exist precisely to discuss matters of policy and administration. "Any action outside these avenues not only breaches party discipline but also creates opportunities for political opponents who are eager to see PKR divided. "Such conduct, as clearly outlined in the Members' Code of Ethics, is a direct violation of Articles 10.1 and 10.2 of the party constitution. "PKR was founded on the principles of struggle, discipline, and unity. No individual is above the party. "Any act that weakens party unity or public confidence must be dealt with firmly and without delay," the statement said. The division chiefs also urged all PKR members, particularly in Kedah, to remain calm, avoid being swayed by misleading narratives, and continue supporting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership in championing reform for the rakyat.
