Auburn football included in four-star LB Anthony Davis' top five schools Auburn is one of the top candidates to land a talented linebacker from talent-rich Georgia.
A linebacker from talent-rich Georgia has included Auburn in his top-five schools ahead of his planned Summer commitment.
Anthony Davis, a four-star linebacker from Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia, recently dropped his top-five choices, with Auburn joining Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida, and Michigan. Davis visited Auburn last weekend and will visit Ole Miss, Michigan, and Alabama before June ends.
In a recent interview with On3, Davis shared his thoughts regarding Auburn and its in-state rival, Alabama. Davis says that both programs have great qualities that are attractive as his recruitment winds down.
'Auburn and Alabama are great schools and I really like the coaches at both schools," Davis said. "I have been to Auburn a lot and I feel comfortable there. Alabama has really impressed me when I have visited there.'
Two linebackers have committed to Auburn so far this cycle: Shadarius Toodle and Jamichael Garrett, and four defensive players total in its No. 36-ranked class. Summer recruiting is heating up and expect Auburn to land several key targets ahead of this season. Davis is the No. 17 linebacker in the 2026 class according to On3's Industry Rating, and ranks as high as No. 25 among Georgia recruits.

Oregon Ducks RB Makhi Hughes named to Maxwell Award watch list

You know that the college football season is right around the corner when preseason awards lists start getting published. In the first of many lists, the Maxwell Award, given out to the nation's best player, published their preseason list, and Oregon's newest tailback, Makhi Hughes, is among the many athletes listed. Hughes, a transfer from Tulane, is expected to be a major impact player for the Ducks this season as he will try to fill the shoes of Jordan James, who left early for the NFL. With the Green Wave, Hughes had an incredible two seasons, gaining 2,779 yards and 20 touchdowns, 15 of those coming just last season. He should have similar numbers for the Ducks, as he will be running behind a much better offensive line. Even if he equals his sophomore season, Dan Lanning will be more than thrilled. It's also possible Hughes might have to carry the offense a little more than originally expected when he came to Eugene through the transfer portal. Given the Ducks have a new quarterback in Dante Moore and a young receiving corps that is missing Evan Stewart, Oregon could rely on the running game more in 2025 than in years past. Oregon also has Noah Whittington, a very good tailback in his own right, to give Hughes a break here and there. It's a powerful 1-2 punch out of the backfield that Duck fans are accustomed to seeing. Top 2027 running back target Amir Brown remains very high on Notre Dame

Much has been made of Notre Dame's exceptional 2026 recruiting class, and Marcus Freeman and his staff have already been busy stocking talent for 2027 as well. North Carolina's Amir Brown is a four-star running back from Rolesville (Raleigh, NC) who already has an offer from the Fighting Irish. He has developed a strong relationship with Fighting Irish running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider, who has made quite the impact since his arrival in South Bend. Brown has offers from several programs besides Notre Dame, including in-state North Carolina, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Texas, among others. But the Irish are one of the top schools on his list after he had an enjoyable visit to South Bend in April. The 5-foot-10, 200-pounder has plans to return for Notre Dame's home opener against Texas A&M on September 13, and he's hoping to make it to a few other games at other schools as well. But the Irish have certainly made a strong impact thus far on the Rolesville star. ND has had a run of recent success in North Carolina, getting talent such as Bryce Young, Rodney Dunham, Ebenezer Ewetade and Nick Reddish in the past few classes. Getting Brown would be another coup. Contact/Follow us @IrishWireND on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Notre Dame news, notes and opinions. Where USA TODAY Sports ranks the Swamp in its top 25 college football stadium rankings

The college football offseason offers an opportunity to reflect on some of the more bird's-eye views of the sport as we await the start of the nation's favorite fall game. Among the more common queries focus on the quality of various schools' stadiums, which serve as something of a house of worship featuring a gridiron altar that fans pray at every Saturday (with exceptions, of course). Many of these locations are among the highest-capacity venues in the nation, which adds fuel to the fervent fire that burns from within during the autumn months. USA TODAY Sports writers Paul Myerberg and Blake Toppmeyer recently tried to tackle the topic by ranking the top 25 best college football stadiums in the country, which included the University of Florida's Ben Hill Griffin Stadium among the top 10. Known throughout the land as "the Swamp," the Gators' home field came in at No. 9 in the rankings — behind the Alabama Crimson Tide's Bryant-Denny Stadium and ahead of the Texas A&M Aggies' Kyle Field. "As former coach Steve Spurrier aptly said, 'Only Gators get out alive' from The Swamp," they offer. "Florida has won 71.4% of its home games against SEC opponents the past 10 years, compared to 47.6% on the road in conference games. That's the definition of home-field advantage." Ranking the Swamp according to other opinions Oddly enough, Toppmeyer ranked Ben Hill Griffin Stadium as the top football venue in the Southeastern Conference earlier this month. Despite this, Florida's home field is the fifth-highest ranked SEC location in the latest tally. On the other hand, Carter Bahns of 247Sports' assessment back in May — in which he ranked the top college football atmospheres — is in agreement with the latest assessment, also placing the Swamp at No. 9.
