A linebacker from talent-rich Georgia has included Auburn in his top-five schools ahead of his planned Summer commitment.
Anthony Davis, a four-star linebacker from Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia, recently dropped his top-five choices, with Auburn joining Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida, and Michigan. Davis visited Auburn last weekend and will visit Ole Miss, Michigan, and Alabama before June ends.
In a recent interview with On3, Davis shared his thoughts regarding Auburn and its in-state rival, Alabama. Davis says that both programs have great qualities that are attractive as his recruitment winds down.
'Auburn and Alabama are great schools and I really like the coaches at both schools," Davis said. "I have been to Auburn a lot and I feel comfortable there. Alabama has really impressed me when I have visited there.'
Two linebackers have committed to Auburn so far this cycle: Shadarius Toodle and Jamichael Garrett, and four defensive players total in its No. 36-ranked class. Summer recruiting is heating up and expect Auburn to land several key targets ahead of this season. Davis is the No. 17 linebacker in the 2026 class according to On3's Industry Rating, and ranks as high as No. 25 among Georgia recruits.

Where does USA TODAY Sports project UNC to finish in 2025 college football season?

How will the UNC football program finish in the ACC this fall? The North Carolina Tar Heels made offseason college football headlines in December, hiring Bill Belichick to be their next head football coach. In Week 1 of the 2025 college football season, UNC will again be the focus of national attention, hosting TCU September 1 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. There's plenty of expectations for North Carolina this fall, but Belichick's hiring doesn't guarantee immediate success. That's reflected in USA TODAY Sports' preseason predictions for the ACC standings, with the Tar Heels projected to finish 12th amongst 17 teams. UNC is one spot ahead of Boston College, which won a 41-21 matchup between the two programs in November 2024. North Carolina trails Syracuse, which won the 2024 Holiday Bowl and finished ranked for the first time since 2018, by one spot. The Tar Heels' success will depend greatly on their new-look roster, which features a brand-new quarterback in Gio Lopez and an entirely-new defensive line. It can take time for new acquisitions to mesh, but I have a feeling Belichick will get his players focused quickly – if they aren't already. After hosting the Horned Frogs, who appeared in the 2022 National Championship game, the Tar Heels' schedule gets easier with consecutive games against Charlotte and Richmond. UNC then faces a 2-game gauntlet in UCF and Clemson, with a bye week sandwiched in-between, followed by California, Virginia and Syracuse to close out October. Stanford and Wake Forest are beatable opponents to open North Carolina's November slate, then Duke and NC State pose significant challenges. These are simply preseason projections, which are rarely accurate. Good news: the Tar Heels are 0-0, a mindset they'll carry into each week this fall. Former Nebraska defensive lineman Khalil Davis announces retirement from the NFL

A former Nebraska defensive lineman is officially retiring from the NFL. Khalil Davis is hanging up the cleats, per his agent Deiric Jackson, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Davis initially arrived in the NFL in 2020 after being drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He bounced around in the NFL, playing for the Indianapolis Colts, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Los Angeles Rams, the Houston Texans and the San Francisco 49ers. Davis played in two regular games for Tampa Bay in his rookie year, being a part of the team's Super Bowl championship. The Buccaneers waived him in 2021. Davis bounced around the league before spending time with the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL. He recorded 15 tackles and one sack with the Stallions, which earned him an opportunity with the Houston Texans. Davis signed with the Texans in 2023, which is where he found a more consistent role. He appeared in 24 games with Houston over parts of two seasons, which included a 32-tackle season in 2023. He joined the 49ers in 2024 and remained on the team through the offseason. Davis finished his NFL career with 46 total tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble. He is the second Husker defensive lineman in recent weeks to announce his retirement, the other being NFL All-Pro Ndamukong Suh. At Nebraska, he finished with 105 tackles, 23 tackles for loss and 13 sacks in his career. In his final season with the Huskers, he totaled a career-high 45 tackles, the most among Nebraska defensive linemen, and he led Nebraska with eight sacks and 12 TFLs.
