First Alert Weather: A few late afternoon storms, shifting inland later this week
Notes from the meteorologist:
Heavy downpours, lightning and a few gusty winds will be embedded in the storms as they move generally east.
A few lingering showers/storms are possible this evening through 9-10 pm inland.
Wednesday morning commute will be mild and muggy.
Scattered showers and storms will shift more inland tomorrow afternoon as the Atlantic sea breeze is able to move farther west.
Daily summertime thunderstorms will continue through the rest of the week, focusing inland.

St. Johns County firefighters respond to house fire that was possibly caused by lightning strike
St. Johns County Fire Rescue is responding to a house fire that was possibly caused by a lightning strike. It happened Friday evening in the 100 block of Willow Island Point in the Silverleaf subdivision. It's off St. Johns Parkway and south of County Road 210. SJCFR found the home 'heavily involved' with fire with flames coming from the roof. Firefighters confirmed that everyone got out of the house safely before they arrived. People are asked to avoid the area as crews are still on scene. Flood watch for heavy storms across parts of Maryland Monday
Hot and muggy air will fuel numerous showers and thunderstorms later this morning through the afternoon hours, especially areas along and east of I-95. Any of these downpours could cause flash flooding with flood watches in effect. More numerous showers and strong to severe thunderstorms will impact more of our area Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon and evening bringing more possible travel disruptions. Flood watches for parts of central and eastern Maryland Today is a WJZ First Alert Weather Day for the possibility of heavy rain and flash flooding mainly for communities along and east of interstate 95. A Flood Watch has been issued for southeastern areas of Baltimore and Harford counties along with all of Anne Arundel, Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne's, Caroline, and Talbot counties from late morning through this evening for the potential of flash flooding. If you see flood waters, turn around, don't drown. This air will be tropical and heavy today with with spotty hit or miss heavy rain showers through the morning commute. Rain showers and thunderstorms will become more numerous mid to late morning through the afternoon and evening hours. Rainfall rates in any of the heavier showers and storms could range from 2 to 3 inches per hour. Not every neighborhood will get one of these storms, but areas that do need to be aware of rapidly changing weather conditions. Areas that receive repetitive thunderstorms today could see upwards of 5" of rain. The greatest chance of rain remains east of I-95 between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Rain quickly diminishes and shifts out of our area by early evening with just a leftover thunderstorm possible north and west toward evening. Areas north and west of I-95 today will be much drier than areas along and east of it. Temperatures today will be warm and muggy with highs in the middle to upper 80s. Strong to severe storms possible Tuesday and Wednesday More heavy rain and strong thunderstorms are likely Tuesday afternoon and evening. Additional strong to severe storms are also possible Wednesday. Tuesday has been upgraded to a First Alert Weather Day for the potential of strong to severe storms from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Given saturated grounds from recent showers and thunderstorms along with tropical humidity in place, the table is set for more potential flash flooding Tuesday afternoon and evening. Saturated grounds and strong thunderstorm wind gusts may also knock down some trees and powerlines. A similar scenario may play out on Wednesday, especially during the afternoon and evening. Scattered to numerous thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and evening hours with an additional flash flood and wind damage threat. We will continue to monitor the latest day for Wednesday and may upgrade it to a First Alert Weather Day. Both days will be very hot and muggy with highs in the lower to middle 90s and feels like temperatures in the 100s. Summer heat, humidity, and storms into the weekend More showers and thunderstorms will be boiling up along a stalled frontal boundary across our area. While a shower or thunderstorm could pop-up at just about anytime, the best chances for showers and storms will be during the afternoon and evening hours. When it's not raining, expect variable clouds, warm, and tropical humidity. Highs in the middle to upper 80s with feels like temperatures in the lower 90s. Flash flooding will be possible today in the Pittsburgh area
Flash flooding will be possible today for parts of the Pittsburgh area. Any Alert Days Ahead? Today Will Be a First Alert Weather Day beginning at Noon due to flash flooding risk. No other days reach into the possible range just yet but plenty more rainy days are incoming with high humidity levels. This is just a fancy way of saying that I do believe we will see more flash flood weather days over the next week. Aware: Yesterday's high of 90° was the 6th 90 degree day of the year. Today is going to be a First Alert Weather Day beginning at noon due to a flash flood risk. There is ample moisture to work with, and a cold front kicking through and stalling will bring storm chances our way. Since the front is expected to align west to east, multiple fast-moving storms are expected to continue to flow over the same areas, raising the potential for flash flooding. Model data indicates ranges from anywhere from half an inch to more than an inch and a half. When talking about flash flooding, I have always bumped up the top model numbers by 150%. This means that some isolated spots could see upwards of 2.5"-3" of rain. This means low-lying areas, especially, may be impacted by quickly rising water. Flash flooding is always a tough event to forecast because it is so limited in scope, but it has such a high impact on those it does actually impact. KDKA Weather Center The highest rain chance will come from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. I do expect to see rain falling outside this window, but flash flooding and severe weather chances will be highest during this time. On top of flash flooding, we also have the chance for windstorms to fly through. Severe thunderstorms will be possible due to these fast-moving storms with wind speeds potentially topping 58mph this afternoon. It appears the tornado threat will be low today, but I want to just add that we can't completely rule out tornado chances. Looking ahead, I have rain chances in place on six of the next seven days. Sunday does stick out as another day where a First Alert may be needed. Humidity levels will be on the high side, so that means downpours will continue to be possible on any day. Let's quickly get to your forecast, with highs today hitting the upper 80s. Highs will come down to the mid to low 80s on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
