Himanshi Narwal's husband, Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, was shot in front of her during the deadly attack which killed 26 people.
Several days ago, Himanshi, a PhD scholar from India, spoke out during a blood donation drive organised in honour of Vinay.
She called for justice on behalf of all the victims of the attack as well as their families.
Saying that she wished for peace for everybody, she stressed that there should be no hate campaign carried out against the people of Kashmir or towards Muslims.
The attack should not result in these people being victimised, she added.
Her statement was hailed as courageous and rational by many observers.
However, her public stance has also led to vicious personal attacks against her.

North Korea accuses Japan of military expansion ambitions

SEOUL: North Korea has accused Japan of seeking to become a major military power, citing Tokyo's latest defence policy white paper as evidence. A foreign ministry official from Pyongyang described the document as a 'war scenario for realizing its ambition for reinvasion from A to Z,' according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). The white paper, approved by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's cabinet this week, highlights concerns over China's military activities and North Korea's growing threats. It marks the first confirmed incursion by a Chinese military aircraft into Japanese airspace, framing it as a serious security risk. Japan has been steadily increasing defence spending, aligning with US-led pressure for greater burden-sharing in regional security. The move strengthens military coordination with Washington and other allies, aiming for quicker responses to potential threats, including a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. North Korea's foreign ministry dismissed Japan's actions as reckless, claiming they escalate regional tensions. KCNA reported that Pyongyang views its nuclear arsenal as a necessary deterrent against US and allied provocations. - AFP

Bike thief's life-long dream crushed by cops

Compiled by FAZLEENA AZIZ, C. ARUNO and R. ARAVINTHAN A MAN from China stole a bicycle and cycled more than 1,000km to see the sea but he was arrested just miles before he could reach the port-city of Weifang, reported China Press . The 30-year-old known as Wang from Anhui province stole the bicycle that was parked by the roadside in Huaibei city and embarked on a 23-day journey to fulfil his life-long dream of seeing the sea. According to Huaibei city police, Wang cycled through Xuzhou in Jiangsu province, Linyi and Zaozhuang in Shandong province – which is more than 1,000km – before being nabbed in Weifang, which is also in Shandong. It was reported that he is currently still under police custody. Many Internet users were sympathetic towards Wang who came very close to achieving his dream. 'Could you please place him in a jail cell with a view of the sea?' one netizen quipped. > The sale of air-conditioners in north-east China is going through the roof due to the prolonged heatwave, according to a report from China Press . The Chinese daily said provinces such as Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning and eastern Inner Mongolia, all of which are colder regions in China, had never needed air-conditioners prior to the heatwave. However, with some cities there reaching a high of 37°C due to the heatwave, there is now a mad rush to buy air-conditioners. Data from Midea Group showed that air conditioner sales in Heilongjiang and Jilin have increased by 356% on a year-on-year basis. 'The heatwave came too suddenly, and demand shot up too quickly. 'Even though we're urgently reallocating personnel and stock, we still can't meet all customer needs,' a regional manager for a well known air-conditioner manufacturer said. Rats blamed for trader's missing liquor supply

Compiled by FAZLEENA AZIZ, C. ARUNO and R. ARAVINTHAN ALCOHOL traders are blaming rats for drinking the liquor from 802 bottles as authorities conduct an audit of liquor stocks in India, Makkal Osai reported. In Dhanbad city, traders who failed to account for the bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor, claimed that rats had chewed through the bottle caps and drank the alcohol. However, excise officials dismissed the claims as nonsense and said the traders involved would be sent notices to pay fines and compensate for the missing stock. The almost-empty or empty bottles suggests the liquor was sold without being officially reported, resulting in lost revenue for the state. The stock audits are being conducted as the Jharkhand state transitions from state-managed to privately licensed alcohol sales. The rats in Dhanbad were also cited as culprits behind the disappearance of 10kg of 'bhang' (marijuana edibles) and 9kg of marijuana from police custody in the city.
