Plush interior; high ride comfort 382-mile range with fast charging Just £478.46 a month Audi is really moving into top gear with its electric cars if the A6 e-tron is anything to go by. This sleek electric five-door offers a sumptuous ride, a tech-filled interior, plus the allure of that four-ringed badge. No wonder we named it our Large Company Car of the Year in the Auto Express New Car Awards 2025. Advertisement - Article continues below But even if you're not a business user there's plenty to like – plus, the A6 undercuts its nearest competitors by some distance. Right now, the A6 Sportback e-tron is around £170 cheaper than its big rival, the BMW i5. This deal from via the Auto Express Find a Car service, sees you taking the keys for just £478.46 a month, while the equivalent i5 is over £645 a month under the same terms. Here, this two-year deal requires a £6,091.56 initial payment, while mileage is limited to 5,000 a year. Should you require more, you'll need to fork out an extra £29.57 a month for 8,000 miles a year. You might assume that at this price this deal would be for the entry-level Sport, but that's not the case. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below Desirable S line trim is the name of the game here, so on top of the Sport's fancy customisable LED welcome lights, illuminated Audi badge at the rear, twin screens with 3D mapping and wireless phone charging, you get a sportier looking exterior, privacy glass and sports seats with the Audi 'S' logo embossed in them, plus other goodies. It does come with the entry-level powertrain, though, but that's no cause for complaint as it's an 83kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 382 miles. We've found the A6 to be not far off its claimed figures, while a peak charging speed of 270kW gives a 10-to-80-per-cent top-up in just 21 minutes, if you find a powerful enough charger. The A6 e-tron has a real high-quality ambience – whether it's the interior or the ride comfort, it feels plush and expensive. Linde targets growth in commercial space market
Aug 1 (Reuters) - Linde , the world's largest industrial gases company, on Friday said it was planning to grow its commercial space business after posting quarterly earnings above market expectations. The U.S.-German company supplies industrial gases and infrastructure to over 80% of U.S. commercial space launches, its chief executive Sanjiv Lamba told analysts on a conference call. That includes a contract with NASA to supply liquid hydrogen used as fuel in cryogenic rocket engines. "I do see space as a very attractive opportunity for growth," CEO Sanjiv Lamba said. Over the last three years, Linde's revenues from the commercial space segment had almost quadrupled, he added. Last week, Linde announced two long-term agreements to supply bulk industrial gases for rocket launches to support the U.S. commercial space sector. "The opportunity to supply fuels for rocket launches, propulsion systems for placing satellites into orbits, it's fueling double-digit growth in that particular end market," Lamba said. Linde reported a 6% rise in its adjusted earnings per share to $4.09 in the second quarter. That was ahead of analysts' mean estimate of $4.03 per share, according to LSEG data. Linde's chemicals & energy business grew 22% in the April-June period. The group raised the lower end of its 2025 earnings per share guidance, and now expects them in a range of $16.30 to $16.50, compared to between $16.20 and $16.50 previously. Linde's total sales were up 5% at $8.495 billion in the second quarter, against analysts' forecast of $8.352 billion.

Next-Gen Volkswagen ID.4 Has the Tesla Model Y In Its Sights
The new ID.4 is going to be a 'huge step up,' according to VW Reception for the Volkswagen ID.4 is probably best classified as 'lukewarm.' While not a bad electric vehicle, it stumbles at some key checkpoints. It doesn't scratch that 300 miles of range itch, and its most powerful variant touts a 335-horsepower dual-motor setup that is decidedly middle of the pack. Only okay software, combined with positives like a fairly refined driving experience and competitive pricing, makes the ID.4 easy to like but perhaps difficult to fall in love with. However, that might be about to change, as Volkswagen inches closer to bringing significant changes to the model. 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 Arguably, many of the areas in which the current VW ID.4 falls flat are simply due to age. The car debuted back in 2020, and while that was only five years ago, the EV landscape has shifted drastically since then. In words shared with Autocar, Volkswagen CEO said the next iteration of the ID.4 is a 'huge step up. It is still our most important electric vehicle in numbers,' Shafer said. Perhaps more relevant: 'It's also able to stay competitive for a while.' The new VW ID.4 might grow and will definitely perform better According to Autocar, the newest ID.4 is known internally at VW as the 'electric Tiguan.' That implies growth in overall dimensions and brand positioning that should let the ID.4 find a larger target audience. It also implies that this is much more than a simple mid-lifecycle refresh, but it's still too early to tell. More definitive changes extend to borrowing more modern technology from models like the ID.7. Kai Grünitz, technical developer with VW, has already confirmed to Autocar that the new ID.4 will get a completely new interior layout, complete with — gasp! — real physical buttons in place of sliders and haptic buttons. 2025 Volkswagen ID.7 — Source: Volkswagen Looking elsewhere in the current electrified Volkswagen lineup, we also find a good candidate for where the ID.4 will borrow its next-generation powertrain: the ID.7. If that happens, it's where the ID.4's real transformation will occur, as the VW ID.7 delivers around 300 miles per charge after considering the differences between WLTP and EPA testing. It also delivers 286 horsepower in its base form — an 85 horsepower bump over the now-discontinued base ID.4 and just nine horsepower short compared to the arguable king of EV SUVs — the Tesla Model Y. 2025 Tesla Model Y — Source: Tesla What Tesla has to fear The Model Y is undeniably a solid vehicle, but for around the same price, a newly refreshed ID.4 might make it really hard to justify stepping foot in a Tesla store. A more comfortable ride, better ergonomics, and nearly the same range and power make the base ID.4 certainly more attractive than a similarly equipped Model Y. With the ID.7 GTX, VW also proved that they could make a relatively fun-to-drive EV. One that, while down on power compared to the Model Y Performance, might just be the more entertaining electric SUV to drive. Final thoughts Tesla only needs to worry if the 286-horsepower battery pack replaces the old base ID.4 that got axed for the 2026 model year. That car's starting price hovered around $42,000, as opposed to the current entry point commanding a dearer $47,000. Unless VW is bringing significant power and range increases to the ID.4 past what the ID.7 is already capable of, it will otherwise be hard to justify picking the ID.4 over the $45,000 Tesla Model Y. We'll have to wait and see as more information trickles out. The refreshed or next-generation VW ID.4 is due next year. About the Author Steven Paul View Profile
