ACC Spotlight: Notable pipelines to high school football talent factories
A major part of recruiting is coaching staffs getting their foot in the door at high school programs that annually produce multiple high-level, Power Four players. CENTRAL (S.C.) DW DANIEL - CLEMSON
A local program to Clemson's campus, Daniel has produced a long line of Tigers relative to football on Saturdays and well beyond. The alumni list is as strong as any at the top, with a pair of first-round NFL Draft picks in a three-year span. DeAndre Hopkins may still represent the most famous former Lions player to don the local orange at the next level. Just two years later, defensive end Shaq Lawson also saw his name called in the first round after his CU days were done.

More notable names in the Daniel-to-Clemson pipeline include longtime NFL player Jarvis Jenkins and a pair of well-known athletes in the current era in brothers Jake and Tyler Venables, of course the sons of longtime defensive coordinator Brent Venables.
The current Clemson roster sports several Lions, as one may expect, including defensive line contributor Jaheim Lawson among a handful of others.

Arguably the top football program in fertile South Florida, there have been scores of St. Thomas Aquinas prospects to end up at Miami dating back to Michael Irvin in the 1980s. Of course the pipeline hasn't slowed down into the current era, as former Raiders to see the brightest of lights after time at Miami include first-round NFLers Phillip Dorsett and other pros such as Brandon Linder, Leonard Hankerson, Tavares Gooden and Anthony Reddick. Miami's all-time receiving leader Xavier Restrepo also had a stint at the school before his college days.

The recent rosters at UM have seen a jolt of local talent line up to play close to home and that means more Raiders became Hurricanes in the process. Freshman defensive back OJ Frederique, breakout running back prospect Jordan Lyle and second-year wide receiver Chance Robinson headline the current contingent on campus.
It may not soon slow down, as current Raiders recruits Miami is trying to reel in include Justice Fitzpatrick, Daniel Norman, Julius Jones, Mark Matthews and Zayden Gamble.

MIAMI (FLA.) CENTRAL - MIAMI
John Garcia, Jr.
Some of the biggest names to come through the program may have starred against the hometown Miami Hurricanes, like a Dalvin Cook at Florida State for example, but there have been some UM greats coming from the school since the turn of the century such as Willis McGahee and Najeh Davenport. The backfield part of the pipeline would continue with blue-chippers Joseph Yearby in addition to big names Trevor Darling, Navaughn Donaldson and the late Bryan Pata going from a Rocket to a Cane.

There was a small lull in the pipeline about a decade ago, but it has since turned around in a large way under Mario Cristobal. In fact, five Central Rockets are on the current Hurricane roster including former five-star pass rusher Armondo Blount and 2023 freshman All-American Rueben Bain Jr.
On the trail, UM hopes the pipeline continues with blue-chip targets at Central such as linebacker Karon Maycock in the 2026 class and wide receiver Sean Thompson in 2027.

The newest members of the ACC have plenty of pipelines to their own name, too, and the current roster at SMU leans on a new one in Lone Star State power South Oak Cliff. The Bears are represented by five different players on the Mustang roster, including captain and returning All-ACC quarterback Kevin Jennings, Texas pass rush transfer Billy Walton III and others.

The SOC-to-SMU pipeline may just be hitting its stride as Rhett Lashelee and company should splash following an ACC runner-up campaign in 2024. Looking ahead to the 2027 class, a pair of coveted prospects are high on the program early on in No. 9 offensive tackle Brian Swanson and defensive line recruit Jaderian Jones.

Hopeful Patriots LB seen training with Raiders Pro Bowl DE Maxx Crosby
New England Patriots linebacker K'Lavon Chaisson was seen working out with Las Vegas Raiders four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Maxx Crosby. A video of the two working out was posted to Chaisson's Instagram page. Crosby is one of the best pass-rushers in the NFL. He's a two-time Second-Team All-Pro with 59.5 career sacks on his resume in six seasons. Chaisson and Crosby were teammates on the Raiders last season. Advertisement It was a career-year for the former first-round draft pick, who racked up 32 tackles, five sacks, two pass deflections and one forced fumble in one season with Las Vegas. Chaisson is looking to have a big year in his first season with the Patriots, and working with a top-tier playmaker like Crosby is a step in the right direction. The Patriots had the worst sack percentage in the NFL last season. There's hope that Chaisson and other newly added pieces, including Harold Landry III and Bradyn Swinson, help establish the consistent pass-rushing threat New England desperately needs. Real Madrid's Club World Cup semi-final preparation disrupted by flight delay
Real Madrid failed to attend their pre-match media activities ahead of Wednesday's Club World Cup semi-final against Paris St. Germain following a flight delay caused by storms in the Miami and New York areas. Coach Xabi Alonso's press conference and the mixed zone interview session with players Thibaut Courtois, Federico Valverde and Jacobo Ramón were initially scheduled for 7:30 and 7:45 pm ET respectively, at MetLife Stadium. Advertisement However, Madrid's scheduled 4 pm flight from the team's Miami base was delayed an hour by adverse weather conditions. FIFA initially delayed Alonso's press conference to 8:15 pm and made plans to scrap the mixed zone. The Athletic learned from a Madrid source at 7:28 pm that the team was still in mid-air and then, six minutes later, FIFA announced the cancellation of all Madrid press activities for the day. Madrid touched down safely at 8:52 pm. 'He's not coming?! Really?!' PSG coach Luis Enrique said, when informed by The Athletic that Alonso wouldn't do his press conference. 'It doesn't change anything to me, I didn't know about the flight, I hope they can arrive normally.' Madrid had initially planned to stay in New York ahead of the semifinal after defeating Borussia Dortmund in last weekend's quarterfinal. However, the club changed plans during the tournament. After investing heavily in their base in Palm Beach, Fla., the decision was made to return there while preparing for the final stages of the competition. The required attendance of media activities is covered under the Club World Cup's list of regulations, with section 4.3 (e) stating the clubs are responsible for 'attending all media conferences and other media activities organised by FIFA in accordance with the FIFA Media and Marketing Regulations, as well as with any other FIFA circular letters, guidelines, directives and/or decisions.' Section 4.5 adds: 'All participating clubs undertake to ensure that their players and officials attend and participate in all official activities and events including, without limitation, any Team Arrival Meeting, Match Coordination Meeting, press conference and other media and marketing activities in accordance with the FIFA Media and Marketing Regulations.' FIFA had not responded to a request for comment from The Athletic by the time of publication, but a Real Madrid spokesperson said the club was not anticipating any fine or discipline for missing out on its obligation.

Giancarlo Stanton nearly traded to Red Sox, per former Boston exec
The post Giancarlo Stanton nearly traded to Red Sox, per former Boston exec appeared first on ClutchPoints. Sometimes it's fun to look back and see what could have been. That was something ESPN recently did in a column featuring current and former executives sharing inside stories about what it's like working in the front office. One portion of the column revealed that former Boston Red Sox executive Jed Hoyer revealed the team nearly traded for star slugger Giancarlo Stanton well before he went to the New York Yankees. Advertisement In the column written by Jesse Rodgers of ESPN, Hoyer describes how the Red Sox had a disgruntled Manny Ramirez seeking a trade. A deal involving Giancarlo Stanton never came to fruition, but it sounds like Boston was in talks with the Miami Marlins to possibly land the 2017 NL MVP in what would have been a three-team trade. 'Manny was really disgruntled about his contract,' Hoyer said. 'He had two club options with no buyouts. He was forcing his way out. We felt like we had to do the deal…It looked like it was never going to get done. It was a last-second three-team deal. That was the most confusing one because there were so many cooks in the kitchen. At one point, the Marlins were involved with a young [Giancarlo] Stanton.' Instead, the Red Sox ended up making a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates before the deadline that season. Boston acquired outfielder Jason Bay while sending Rameriez to L.A. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh was given four prospects in the deal. Giancarlo Stanton remained with the Marlins until he was eventually traded to the Yankees after the 2017 season. And that is where Stanton remains today. New York is currently tied for second place in the AL East, while Boston is in fourth. Giancarlo Stanton just recently came back from injury after dealing with tendinitis in both elbows. Through 54 at-bats so far this season, Stanton owns a .222 batting average and .323 OBP while recording 12 hits, one home run, and seven RBIs.
