With a Tiana original special now the focus, we hear, it seems that creatively a Tiana series had been going nowhere fast for several years. That creative funk was why all we've seen the past four years is a single image from the proposed Tiana series.
First announced in December 2020, the project was expected to feature Anika Noni Rose reprising her role as Tiana from the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog, which revolved around Disney's first Black princess.
Set in New Orleans during the 1920s, the film tells the story of a hardworking waitress named Tiana who dreams of opening her own restaurant. After kissing prince Naveen, who has been turned into a frog by the evil voodoo witch doctor Facilier, Tiana becomes a frog as well and the two must find a way to turn human again before it is too late.
In addition to Rose, the film also starred Bruno Campos, Michael-Leon Wooley, Jim Cummings, Jennifer Cody, John Goodman, Keith David, Peter Bartlett, Jenifer Lewis, Oprah Winfrey and Terrence Howard.
The film was directed by John Musker and Ron Clements and produced by Peter Del Vecho, from a screenplay co-written by Clements and Musker with Rob Edwards. Musker and Clements also co-wrote the story with writing duo Greg Erb and Jazson Oremland.
The Hollywood Reporter was first to report the news.

ABC Cancels Series After Only One Season
ABC has made another tough decision regarding one of their newest television shows. Unfortunately, for fans of one particular series, it's been confirmed that ABC has canceled the title after releasing one sole season on their network. It took quite some time for the scripted series to receive some kind of update regarding whether or not it would be renewed or canceled entirely. Now, however, we know that ABC decided on the latter. It's unfortunate that the series had to be canceled, and even more so that crew members are alleging that there was inappropriate behavior while working on the series. What began as a promising addition to the network's lineup has now ended not only in cancellation, but under the cloud of behind-the-scenes concerns that have started to come to light in recent weeks. '' Doctor Odyssey ' has been canceled after one season on ABC.' Variety notes that 'the cast's contracts expire on Monday with no move from ABC to put the series back on its schedule for the upcoming year.' With that said, the outlet does suggest one possible reason for the show's cancellation. The news was released just 'after three of the show's former crew members filed a lawsuit against Disney and 20th Television on May 30, alleging that the studio enabled an 'unchecked campaign of sexual harassment for months'' and the crew members also accused 'assistant prop master Tyler Patton of making 'sexual jokes, innuendos, comments, sexual gestures and images' in addition to 'unwanted touching' including 'openly grabbing a visiting female employee's buttocks.' The medical drama series, created by Ryan Murphy, starred Joshua Jackson as Max Bankman. His character is a doctor on a luxury cruise line called the Odyssey. The story revolves around Bankman as he assists with medical emergencies while overseas. The series Doctor Odyssey was produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the latest titles to be renewed or canceled by ABC and other such television networks and platforms as we have them.

ESPN Made History On Day 1 Of Wimbledon Tournament
ESPN Made History On Day 1 Of Wimbledon Tournament originally appeared on The Spun. ESPN's investment in tennis appears to have paid off in a big way for the Worldwide Leader. This year's Wimbledon tournament, which started on Monday, reportedly drew a record audience for the Disney-owned company; setting an all-time viewership record for Day 1 of the Grand Slam event. Advertisement According to the network's PR team, an average of 539,000 people tuned in for the championships' first day, up 37% from last year's Day 1 crowd of 393,000 watchers. That is the best ratings number ESPN has had in its 22 years of Wimbledon coverage. Where those numbers go from here is anyone's guess though, as this year's tournament saw early exits for some of tennis' biggest stars including Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula. Coco has been one of the sport's biggest draws since her professional debut at the age of 14 and she was as disappointed as anybody by the stunning first-round loss. "Dayana [Yastremska] started off playing strong. I couldn't find my footing out there today," Gauff said after the match, before admitting that the quick turnaround from Roland Garros likely got to her. Advertisement "I feel like mentally I was a little bit overwhelmed with everything that came afterwards. So I didn't feel like I had enough time to celebrate and also get back into it." With that said Monday was still a great number for ESPN and they'll attempt to build off that momentum as the rest of the championships continue.
