Tamkeen launches updated financial services sector skills report
The report builds upon the findings of the initial report published in 2022, which provided an overview of the needs of the workforce in the sector and identified its skill gaps. The latest version reflects the sector's evolving landscape, with updated content aligned to current labour market developments and the Core Skills Framework launched in 2024. The report categorizes sector activities using international standards tailored to Bahrain's context, covering banking, insurance, asset management, financial markets, and financial technology (FinTech).
The financial services sector plays a pivotal role in Bahrain's economy, surpassing oil and gas as the largest contributor to the Kingdom's GDP, accounting for 17.8%. The sector employs approximately 14,362 individuals, with Bahrainis representing 70% of the workforce, according to the 2023 Labor Force Survey published by the Central Bank of Bahrain.
The report outlines key trends shaping the future of the sector, including rapid digital transformation and the growing prominence of FinTech. It also highlights increasing demand for specialized skills in areas such as cybersecurity, data analytics, and financial risk management. In addition, it identifies emerging roles, including actuaries, data analysts, compliance officers, and credit officers. There is also a growing focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, with sustainability officers becoming a priority for financial institutions as they integrate ESG practices into business strategies, investment decisions, and risk management processes in alignment with global and local frameworks.

CBB Sukuk Al Ijara oversubscribed by 356%
The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) announces that the monthly issue of the short-term Islamic leasing (Ijara) Sukuk has been oversubscribed by 356%. Subscriptions worth BD 92.635 million were received for the BD 26 million issue, which carries a maturity of 182 days. The expected return on the issue, which begins on July 3 and matures on January 1, 2026, is 5.35%, equivalent to the previous issue on June 5. The Sukuk Al Ijara are issued by the CBB on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain. This is issue No.239 (BH0006071714) of the short-term Sukuk Al-Ijara series.

Bapco Energies Joins Hands with Ministry of Youth to Support "Youth City 2030" Program
The Ministry of Youth Affairs has signed a new partnership with Bapco Energies to support this year's edition of "Youth City 2030", a summer training program aimed at preparing young Bahrainis for the future. The agreement was signed by Youth Minister Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi and Bapco Energies CEO Mark Thomas, in the presence of senior officials from both sides. Minister Tawfiqi said she was proud of this partnership, which reflects the Ministry's efforts to work with private companies to help young people grow and succeed. She highlighted that the program is guided by the vision of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who strongly supports youth development in Bahrain. 'This agreement with Bapco Energies is a big step forward. It will help us offer young Bahrainis the skills and training they need to succeed in the future,' she said. 'We want to give them real opportunities to shine and turn their success stories into an inspiration for others.' Bapco Energies CEO Mark Thomas said supporting youth is one of the company's top priorities. He added that the company, under the leadership of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, is committed to helping young Bahrainis become future leaders. Tamkeen opens ‘AI Training programme'
The Labour Fund (Tamkeen) has announced that resgistration is now open for private sector enterprises interested in enrolling their employees under the 'AI Training Programme'. This programme is part of a broader initiative launched in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Minister of the Prime Minister's Court, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), which aims to train 50,000 Bahrainis in Artificial Intelligence by 2030. The programme includes three training tracks: AI Generalists track, AI Specialists track, and AI for Executives track. Registration is now open for the AI Generalists track which is designed for employees with foundational information technology (IT) literacy, and the AI for Executives track, designed for C-suite, executives or self-employed entrepreneurs. As for the AI Specialists track, registration will be announced at a later stage. Mr. Khalid Al Bayat, Chief Growth Officer at Tamkeen, stated: 'This training will support Bahrainis and open doors for their career development prospects. In addition, entrepreneurs and executives will also benefit from utilizing AI to boost efficiency, productivity, and the adoption of innovative technological solutions.' 50,000 Bahrainis Over the next five years, 50,000 Bahrainis will be trained in AI skills, which will provide the labor market with a pool of qualified talent capable of leveraging AI effectively to enhance business performance.
