Egypt, CIHEAM Bari partner up to fund green MSMEs by youth, women in Sohag
The project is funding micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) founded by youth and women in green industries, in addition to supporting informal businesses to join the formal sector and providing capacity-building to governmental bodies concerned with entrepreneurship in Sohag.
In a related context, Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsi and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Coalition for Civil Work Khaled Abdel Aziz signed in November a cooperation protocol on funding enterprises of women and youth at villages included in the "Decent Life" initiative across six governorates.
Those are Aswan, Asyut, Beni Suef, Giza, Alexandria, and Daqahliyah, and, the age group targeted is 21 to 55. Also, disabled individuals will be entitled to apply on the funding programme.
The programme includes training on management, crafts and online marketing, micro financing, veterinary care, insurance on poultry projects and capital, and assistance with sales.
The second phase of Decent Life Initiative kicked off in July, and it is being implemented with funds worth LE450 billion and completed in three years.
Seventeen percent of the Egyptian population residing a total of 1,500 rural villages – included in the first phase - had benefited from Decent Life initiative over the past three years with a cost of LE350 billion.
The Egyptian Center for Strategic Studies (ECSS) issued in July a report titled "The Villages of Egypt in 10 Years: From Marginalization to Decent Life" on "Decent Life," which is the initiative aimed at developing the countryside and improving the lives of 58 million with a budget that surpasses LE1 trillion.

IMF to complete 5th, 6th reviews of Egypt loan programme in September - Economy
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced that it will complete the fifth and sixth reviews of Egypt's Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme by September, citing the need for more time to finalize key policy measures, according to Julie Kozack, the director of the IMF's Communications Department. The key measures to be finalized include those related to reducing the state's role in the economy and enhancing private sector participation, Kozack clarified. Once the fifth and sixth reviews are completed in September, Egypt will be eligible to receive two tranches, worth $2.4 billion, out of the total $8 billion loan. Kozack made these remarks on Thursday during a hybrid press briefing when asked by Ahram Online about the possible outcomes of Monday's meeting. The decision follows a recent IMF mission visit to Cairo, from 6 to 18 May, during which discussions with Egyptian authorities were described as productive. However, Kozack affirmed that more work is needed to ensure the programme's core objectives are met. 'The discussions suggest that more time is needed to finalize key policy measures, particularly related to the state's role in the economy,' Kozack said during the press briefing. 'For that reason, the fifth and sixth reviews under the EFF will be combined and discussed together in the fall,' she added. Moreover, Kozack asserted that Egypt has made notable progress, including a decline in inflation and an increase in foreign exchange reserves. However, she emphasized the importance of deepening structural reforms to safeguard macroeconomic stability and strengthen the country's resilience to external shocks. Central to those reforms are the advancement of the state ownership policy and the asset diversification programme, key elements that aim to reduce the state's economic footprint and create space for private-sector-led growth. 'These steps are critical to leveling the playing field and improving the business environment,' she noted. Kozack further affirmed the IMF's strong commitment to Egypt's economic reform agenda. She clarified that discussions are ongoing regarding the country's financing needs and the potential size of the disbursement under the combined review, saying it would be premature to speculate on the final figures at this stage. Additionally, she stated that the first review of the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) financing, which was approved earlier this year, will be aligned with the sixth review of the EFF programme. The IMF's EFF arrangement with Egypt was initially approved in December 2022 and expanded in 2024 to a total of $8 billion. The programme aims to restore macroeconomic stability, advance structural reforms, and enhance social protection in the face of external economic pressures. Egyptian & French FMs Discuss Bilateral Ties, Regional Stability
H-Tayea Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation on Thursday with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot to discuss key regional developments and ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations. According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, both ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing all aspects of bilateral relations and elevating cooperation to new levels, in line with the strong strategic ties between Egypt and France. During the call, Minister Abdelatty briefed his French counterpart on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, including Egypt's efforts to revive and sustain the ceasefire, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and stabilize the situation. OPEN// FM affirms Egypt's support for Syrian political process
CAIRO, July 3 (MENA ) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's support for launching a purely Syrian-inclusive political process free from external dictates or interference. During a phone call Thursday with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, the Egyptian foreign minister underlined Egypt's support for launching a comprehensive political process that is purely Syrian-owned, free from external dictates or interference. The process should preserve and support the unity and stability of Syria and its people with all their components and groups and adopt an all-out approach that brings together all Syrian national forces, Abdelatty said. The Syrian foreign minister reviewed the overall political, economic, and security developments in Syria, as Abdelatty was posted on his Syrian counterpart's assessment of the anticipated consequences of lifting US sanctions on Syria in the coming period. The discussion also addressed repeated Israeli violations and breaches of Syrian sovereignty. For his part, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's complete rejection of the repeated Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty and any undermining of the unity and integrity of Syrian territory.
