Pep Guardiola hits back at reporter over ‘trophy-less' comments about Manchester City's last season
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was keen to hit back and correct one reporter during a recent press conference concerning claims of a 'trophy-less' last season.
The Catalan coach is looking towards his latest campaign with the Etihad Stadium club and arguably his most challenging task to date as Manchester City manager, as he aims to rebuild towards the exceptionally high standards established over recent years.

Largely as a result of widespread injury and fitness problems, City found themselves significantly off the pace in the chase for the Premier League title last season, and had to settle for UEFA Champions League football secured on the final day of the campaign.
As such, the season went down as the first campaign at Manchester City since Pep Guardiola's first year at the club in 2016/17 that the squad had failed to win a single major trophy, having lost in a second successive FA Cup Final at the hands of Crystal Palace along the way.
But speaking during a recent press conference, Sky Sports News' Kaveh Solhekol pointed out that City failed to win a trophy for the first time in eight years during 2024/25 – a claim that Pep Guardiola was visibly unhappy with.
'No, it's not true, my friend, I'm sorry to tell you,' Guardiola snapped back before the question was completely put to him.

'You would like it, but it's not true,' he added, before pointing out, 'We won the Community Shield! Thank you.'
'Apart from that, yeah I know. I know it's not enough, but we won it,' Guardiola closed.
Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City players have the opportunity to claim major silverware before the start of the European schedule, as they continue in their work towards the FIFA Club World Cup crown.
Having established victories over Wydad AC and Al Ain in their opening two matches at the tournament scoring eight goals without reply, matchday three brings the challenge of Juventus as City look to secure top spot in the group.
The last-16 of the expanded tournament will see City take on either of Spain's Real Madrid, Austria's RB Salzburg, and Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal – who could bring a reunion with some familiar faces from Europe including former Etihad Stadium defender Joao Cancelo.

Harry Kane scores twice as Bayern Munich beats Flamengo 4-2 to advance in Club World Cup
Associated Press MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Harry Kane scored twice and Bayern Munich capitalized on a quick start to beat Flamengo 4-2 in the Club World Cup round of 16 on Sunday. Germany's premier soccer club regrouped quickly from its only loss of the tournament last week against Benfica, jumping out to a 2-0 lead and then holding off Flamengo's comeback attempt to advance to the quarterfinals. Bayern Munich will face Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday in Atlanta. Kane's first goal was a deflected strike nine minutes in that made it 2-0, and the prolific goal scorer found the back of the net again on a feed from teammate Joshua Kimmich that he whipped past goalie Agustin Rossi. The Bundesliga champion struck early when Flamengo star Erick Pulgar headed the ball into his own net off Joshua Kimmich's corner six minutes into the match. Flamengo answered when Gerson fired a strike past Manuel Neuer in the 32nd to cut the deficit to a goal before Leon Goretzka put made it 3-1 at the half. Flamengo pulled within a goal again in the second half when Jorginho scored on a penalty. Then came Kane again, finishing in the 73rd with his third goal of the tournament. The 65,000-seat Hard Rock Stadium — home of the NFL's Miami Dolphins — has been one of the more well-attended venues of the tournament and was almost completely full Sunday, with many attendees wearing Flamengo's iconic black and red kit. Key moment Jorginho sent Neuer the wrong way on a penalty in the 54th to cut the deficit to 3-2 and give Flamengo life. Takeaways Bayern's win ensured that at least four European clubs will advance to the quarterfinals. It also set up a rematch of the 2020 UEFA Champions League final, as they'll face Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinal after the European Champion routed Lionel Messi and Inter Miami 4-0 earlier Sunday in Atlanta. ___ AP soccer:

Liverpool are about to complete a VERY significant transfer
Liverpool's transfer business thus far has been significant and everyone should be taking note. One of the most talented right-backs in the world, the Premier League's best left-back last season and one of the brightest attacking young players in the world, have all been brought to Merseyside. Advertisement These are all serious moves that make huge changes to the team's starting XI, rather than bulking up the squad. Remember, this is adding resources to a club that are currently the reigning title holders. But there is reason to suggest that the Reds aren't stopping there and we could see further transfer developments before the window closes in just over two months time. There's a lot of time left. Liverpool have plenty more up their sleeves In an interview with M4 Sport, Dominik Szoboszlai's agent Matyas Esterhazy spoke about his client, how the next season might unfold and what he thinks to the Liverpool's summer transfer business. Advertisement He said: "I haven't thought about Dominik's career for quite some time. He has reached the point where he was a decisive member of the team that won the Premier League. The club is working on very significant developments, they want to be more and more successful..." As such, not only are there no concerns about his client, but he is incredibly positive about where he sees the club going, with his fellow countrymen, Armin Pesci and Milos Kerkez join Szoboszlai.

Star player says YES to Liverpool transfer
But probably the transfer that is of the highest importance is the centre-back position. With Jarell Quansah expected to imminently complete his move to Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool are left really short in that department. That's why it's important to bring in a replacement for Quansah and it looks like Hughes is already nearing a move for an England international. Advertisement Marc Guehi seems to be the club's first priority and now it seems like the Crystal Palace star has helped Liverpool's cause by saying yes to a potential move to Anfield. According to journalist Nicolo Schira, Guehi has 'given his availability' to join Liverpool and sign a contract until 2030. The report goes onto say that Liverpool are now working on reaching an agreement with Crystal Palace. What that agreement will look like remains to be seen. Anfield Watch understands that Liverpool are looking to agree a £40m deal, which would be an absolute bargain. Guehi has been the star of a really exciting Palace team for some time now. He's their club captain and he is also a regular at international level for England. Advertisement Bringing in a player with that kind of experience to replace Quansah's role in the squad is a huge upgrade. Not to mention, Guehi only turns 25-years-old next month - meaning he is extremely young. And on top of that there's the bonus that ex-Chelsea players always tend to do well at Anfield. From Daniel Sturridge to Mohamed Salah, Guehi might be the next one. He definitely seems keen on the move. Now it's just up to Liverpool to strike an agreement.
