'Would have known': The truth behind Prince Harry's mediation with King Charles as exiled royal reels from Netflix calling time on $153 million content deal

Sky News AU3 days ago
Netflix have grown increasingly unsatisfied with Meghan and Harry's performance on its network, and the dwindling number of viewers who tune in to their shows have had enough too.
The company had originally made a USD$100 million (AUD$153 million) deal with the pair - but that was when the couple were spilling all about the entrails of their relationship with the Royal Family.
When the couple ran out of new material their broadcasts began to flop.
As a result Netflix is not renewing their contract when it expires in September.
It's a massive shock that could significantly affect their lives.
They were rarely apart when they were newlyweds, but will they still stay together?
Meghan now sees herself as a businesswoman despite complaining in a recent podcast that she had to work so hard.
Harry often travels.
Recently he went to Angola to support the work of the HALO Trust that backed Princess Diana's famous walk through a minefield.
Harry no doubt wanted to feel close to his mother, who died in 1997, while bolstering his image.
Meghan likes to keep in the public's eye, readily using social media, despite she and Harry expressing concerns on the negative impacts.
She often shows their two children Archie and Lilibet in her posts but won't show their faces.
And followers are getting bored with them due to their rank hypocrisy.
Her latest series, 'With Love, Megan', failed to reach Netflix's top 300 most-watched programs.
Harry's situation was worse, with his Netflix polo sport feature rating 3,436th in Netflix's engagement report.
Nonetheless, Meghan thinks highly of herself and believes she knows better than the experts around her who often don't stay very long.
Even her produce is not always given enough attention.
About a month ago she produced apricot spread for her 'As Ever' brand, showcasing jam as an important part of her business output.
The Duchess of Sussex was blasted for supposedly picking fruit from a tree which showed some green looking apricots, raising questions on whether the fruit she was using were in season or not.
Jam guru Donna Collins publicly criticised her and called the jam 'a real disappointment'.
Then after you thought things couldn't get any worse, two of the biggest brand experts in the US lashed out at the Princess.
Canadian lawyer Phillip Millar and California marketing executive Camille Moore, both stars of 'The Art of the Brand' podcast called Meghan a 'fraud'.
They said the people behind the 'As Ever' brand are 'milking' her fame she gained after marrying Harry, and that she is 'suckering people into buying her stuff'.
And that the concept of Meghan's lifestyle business was one of the worst they have ever seen.
In mid July there was a meeting between Tobyn Andreae, the King and Queen's communications secretary, with Liam Maguire and Meredith Maines who work for Harry.
The aides sat on a balcony but only for ten minutes, after Mr Maguire spotted a photographer.
Was the snapper there by chance? And was part of the meeting done outside to see if it would leak?
Harry would have known of Netflix's decision, therefore wanted his father to give him much needed money.
The meeting was less likely a ploy to seek peace with his father.
In a recent interview with the BBC he said he missed his country and then used part of the 30 minute-interview to accuse the royal household of influencing the Court of Appeals' decision to reduce his security detail.
Money aside, Netflix's action is a major personal set back.
Does Meghan feel she would be better off without unsuccessful Harry?
It will be a second blow for Harry, who may feel like another 'Spare', similar to the title of his book.
The couple moving back to London seems unlikely.
Meghan knows she is not popular in the UK and so far sources have said that she won't come. Or bring the children.
The King loves Harry like any father loves his child, but hugely disapproves of his behaviour, particularly his rudeness about his adored wife Camilla - calling her 'dangerous' and that she 'left bodies left in the street' on her ascent to royal stardom.
Harry has written in his memoir that Camilla "sacrificed me on her personal PR altar".
Angela Levin is an award-winning British journalist and royal biographer. Her biography Harry: Conversations with the Prince was published in 2018. Her work has been commended twice at the British Press Awards.

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau 'are interested in each other'

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau "have a lot in common". The 40-year-old pop star and the former Canadian Prime Minister have recently been spending time together in Montreal, and an insider has now claimed that there is "an attraction" between the duo. The source told People: "They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes. "She is travelling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common." Katy - who recently split from actor Orlando Bloom - and Justin share a love of music. The insider explained: "Music is one of many things they can share. Both are idealists and still live in a world where they think they can make improvements, although it has gotten more difficult." Katy confirmed the end of her engagement to Orlando in July, while Justin split from his wife Sophie Gregoire in 2023. The source said: "Their own personal responsibilities could make this relationship move slower than it would, but there are ways to see the other and still fulfill their parenting responsibilities. "For one thing, they each have an ex. So, duties are split in half. And long-distance relationships, while still hard, are possible for these two." Katy and Orlando previously announced that they intend to "focus on co-parenting" their daughter following their break-up. The celebrity duo - who have Daisy, four, together - said in a statement give to People at the time: "Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry's relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting. "They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect." Katy and Orlando - who got engaged in 2019 - released the statement following intense speculation about their relationship status.

The Block is back — and this time, the show's playing nice

Is this the nicest (and possibly gayest?) Block yet? If you peeped the first ep of Nine's long-running reality series, you'd have seen this year's crop of hopefuls riding atop some gloriously decorated Pride floats down the main drag of regional Daylesford — a lovely way to kick things off. And so nice that we started this season with a celebration of love and unity as we were introduced to this year's hopefuls, which include lesbian couple Han and Can, along with Robby and his gay bestie, Mat. It felt a far cry from last year's festival of negativity, rumoured adultery and downright mean-girl behaviour (let's never speak of the Phillip Island series again), and this year's contestants look a lovely bunch — particularly WA cop couple Britt and Taz, who I already know I'd let pop me in the back of a paddy wagon. Producers look like they've gone out of their way to make sure this year's Block experience is a positive one for contestants — and viewers. The work site is now shut up every night, with contestants forbidden from toiling away after hours, so no more all-nighters! They're also all staying together in a communal campsite (complete with deluxe caravans) — Kumbaya, anyone? Best of all, they've all been given the building schedule ahead of time, so no nasty budget surprises. That's enough to put a smile on anyone's face, especially WorkSafe and Nine's HR department, who surely weren't looking for a repeat of last year's shenanigans. Scott and Shelley are back hosting The Block. Credit: Supplied I visited the site a few months ago — it's impressive! No spoilers, but know this: Block fans won't be disappointed with the way these houses take shape. Give us ALL the rainbows and unicorns please, The Block. It's about all we can take right now. The Yogurt Shop Murders is coming to Max. Credit: Supplied I am starting to seriously worry about my other half: his streaming algorithms are basically end-to-end true-crime docos. Yikes! Now he can add this excellent four-parter to the watch list. It's all about the murder of four girls at a frozen yoghurt shop in Austin, Texas, back in 1991. Though two people did time for the crime, questions surround the confessions they gave. This is a fascinating look at police investigations, crime reporting and the concept of 'false memory'. But it's the families' stories that make this most impactful — and a devastating watch. Must-see. The Twelve: Cape Rock Killer is headed to Foxtel and Binge. Credit: Supplied This season of The Twelve is set in and around Margaret River, with certified Silver Fox Brett Colby (aka Sam Neill) headed off down south to defend the husband of a pal. This has a stacked cast and great premise. The second season of Wednesday is coming to Netflix. Credit: Jonathan Hession / Netflix Everyone's favourite moody teen is back, skulking the halls of Nevermore Academy on the hunt for more foes to fell. This season her family play a much more central role — can't wait for more Morticia and Gomez! The second season of Platonic is coming to Apple TV Plus. Credit: Supplied I fell hard for this great comedy starring Rose Byrne and Seth Rogan; I'm so pleased it's back. The first two eps of the new season drop this week, then one episode a week till October 1.
