Include us in future consultations and deliberations on third-language formula for schoolchildren in Maharashtra, say educationists and linguists
Laxmikanth Deshmukh, chairman of the Marathi Language Advisory Committee, said, "It's good that the GRs have been scrapped and that state govt has formed a committee under educationist Narendra Jadhav. I hope the committee reaches out to us and everyone who objects to the policy and hears our views — though I still feel there is no need for a third language in the state."
The state's Marathi Language Advisory Committee joined the rising opposition against the three-language formula when it passed a resolution on June 27 opposing the teaching of Hindi in schools before the class 5.
This marked the first time a govt-appointed panel officially opposed Hindi instruction before class 5.

Speaking on the mounting opposition, educationist-linguist Shripad Bhalchandra Joshi said, "It is welcome that the govt has withdrawn both GRs. However, given govt's past approach to discussions and committee formation, I think it is necessary for them to give representation to all relevant stakeholders. I would also suggest that they make the committee's work more transparent by publishing its schedule and method of study.

Madhav Suryavanshi of the Shikshan Vikas Manch expressed hesitation in trusting the govt's announcement. "Until an official order is issued canceling the decision to implement the three-language formula from class 1, the government's stance cannot be trusted," he said.

The AAP on Sunday slammed the BJP for allegedly framing its leaders in false cases and questioned who would compensate the families for the emotional distress caused by the serious corruption allegations. In a post on X in Hindi, former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted that all cases filed against his party leaders are "false". "With time, the truth will come out in all these cases. False cases were filed against us, and we were sent to jail. Shouldn't those who filed these false cases, and those leaders who ordered these false cases, be sent to jail? We were smeared with mud day and night, our families had to endure so much pain — what about compensating for all that?" the AAP supremo said on X. While accepting the CBI's closure report, Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh said the investigating agency has not found any incriminating evidence over such a long period, and further proceedings would serve no useful purpose. "Whenever they wanted, they filed fake cases; whenever they wanted, they sent us to jail; and whenever they felt like it, they filed a 'closure report.' Is this justice?" Kejriwal questioned. The despicable thinking of BJP's central government and their LG - file false cases against Kejriwal's government ministers and MLAs to hinder their work, defame them in the name of corruption. Echoing similar views, former Delhi minister Atishi said in a press conference, "Since the AAP government was formed in Delhi, the BJP has filed false cases against our leaders. In 10 years, more than 200 cases have been filed against our leaders. When these cases go to court, it comes to light that AAP leaders have done nothing wrong." Atishi said the CBI court has accepted that there was not a single penny of corruption in Jain's case and has declared him innocent.

2020 Kuttanad flood relief: Explain how families were identified, Kerala HC tells govt
Kochi: High court has sought details from the state govt regarding the methodology adopted for identifying families affected by the 2020 flood at Kuttanad in Alappuzha district. The court was considering a petition by Jaisappan Mathai of Kuttanad concerning relief for families affected by the 2020 flood and the delay on the part of the state in disbursing aid to 3,232 families. The petition stated that on Dec 10, 2021, the disaster management department additional chief secretary had issued an order directing that Rs 3,800 each be given to 43,538 families, but some of them had not received the amount even after two years. In May 2025, a bench of Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Basant Balaji directed the state govt to place on record the govt order, notification, or circular issued pursuant to the decision for disbursing the amount, clearly laying down the methodology for identifying beneficiaries and distributing the compensation. The court observed that the allocation of Rs 3,800 to 43,538 families involves a significant amount of public funds, and a robust and transparent system for identifying the affected families is essential. The task cannot be left solely to the village officer and the panchayat-level committee without proper guidance or oversight. Accordingly, HC directed the collector to file a detailed affidavit in the matter. Subsequently, on July 31, the state govt sought additional time to file the affidavit, and the court directed that the affidavit be placed on record by Aug 14.
