Kaydon Finley, a recent Notre Dame commit, writes a thank you his other finalists

USA Today14 hours ago
It has long been true, that not only does Notre Dame football recruit great athletes, they recruit great young men as well, and it is looking like you can add 2026 wide receiver commit Kaydon Finley to that list.
The Texas star verballed to the Irish over the weekend, and on Sunday went to social media to thank his other finalists for their time recruiting him. It's something that you don't often see in this era of college football, at least publicly.
Finley singled out coaches from Texas, Arizona State and Texas A&M, thanking each of them for giving him an opportunity to play at their school. He mentioned that his decision was 'both incredibly meaningful and difficult,' as the other three finalists made his choice very tough on him.
This kind of attitude will go a long way for Finley, as he is quickly becoming a fan favorite in South Bend.

Point Spread Released for Texas vs. Oklahoma in 2025 Red River Rivalry

Point Spread Released for Texas vs. Oklahoma in 2025 Red River Rivalry originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns are expected to start the 2025 college football season ranked one of the top three teams in the nation, therefore Steve Sarkisian's squad should enter the majority of their matchups as the betting favorite. Advertisement The two games on the schedule that the Longhorns likely won't be considered the favorite to win are Week 1 at Ohio State and Week 12 at Georgia. Every other game on the schedule looks favorable for Texas. According to FanDuel's early betting lines, the Longhorns are a double-digit favorite over the Oklahoma Sooners this year. FanDuel currently views Texas as the 10.5-point favorite over Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry on Oct. 11. However, the previous year Oklahoma handed Texas a surprising 34-30 loss when the Longhorns were ranked No. 3 in the country. That ended up being the only regular season loss that Texas suffered in 2023. Advertisement For the fifth consecutive year, Oklahoma will field a new quarterback behind center. Michael Hawkins Jr., Dillon Gabriel, Davis Beville, and Caleb Williams started against Texas the last four years. Transfer quarterback John Mateer is in line to start for the Sooners this season. Although these two programs seem to be trending in opposite directions, anything can happen in a rivalry matchup of this nature. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT on Oct. 11. Astros Announce Christian Walker News After Dodgers Sweep

Astros Announce Christian Walker News After Dodgers Sweep originally appeared on Athlon Sports. First baseman Christian Walker is in his 11th major-league season and first with the Houston Astros. Originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the fourth round of the 2012 MLB Draft, Walker debuted in 2014. He struggled to stick at the big-league level, posting a sub-.600 OPS in two seasons and ultimately being designated for assignment in 2017. Advertisement Walker signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks and, following the 2018 trade of Paul Goldschmidt to the St. Louis Cardinals, became their everyday first baseman in 2019. In his first full season, he appeared in a career-high 152 games, smashing 29 home runs, driving in 73 runs and establishing himself as a middle-of-the-order force. Over eight productive years in Arizona, Walker earned three Gold Glove Awards—highlighting his defensive prowess at first base—and served as an essential part of the Diamondbacks' 2023 World Series run. Houston Astros first baseman Christian Walker (8)Troy Taormina-Imagn Images Houston signed Walker to a three-year, $60 million contract this past offseason to fill their vacancy at first base. Advertisement While his overall numbers have dipped in 2025, he flashed his offensive potential this past weekend in a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers, going 6-for-14 with two home runs and six RBIs. On Monday, the Astros announced Walker would be placed on the paternity list, with outfielder Kennedy Corona being recalled to fill his roster spot. Through 87 games in 2025, Walker is hitting .231 with 12 homers, 45 RBIs and a .673 OPS—his lowest mark since 2021. Despite his individual struggles, Houston has thrived at 55–35, holding a seven-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the AL West. If Walker can recapture his Diamondbacks form, the Astros' lineup will grow even more formidable. Rangers Announce News on Former Yankees Bust After Padres Game

Rangers Announce News on Former Yankees Bust After Padres Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Rangers have been one of the more disappointing teams in baseball, thanks in large part to Joc Pederson's dramatic and unpredictable slide after his two-year, $37 million contract signing. Advertisement Because of Pederson, and a general offensive malaise for the Rangers, who rank 25th in baseball in runs scored and 27th in team OPS, they have had to take a flier on players who might not otherwise get a second chance. One of those players was outfielder Billy McKinney, who had a relatively long tenure with the Yankees in their disappointing 2023 season. New York Yankees left fielder Billy McKinney (57) hits a single in the fourth inning against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Cruz-Imagn Images The Rangers announced they have outrighted McKinney once again to Triple-A after two games up in the bigs. The Rangers signed McKinney to a minor-league contract on May 27, immediately assigning him to Triple-A Round Rock. After hitting six home runs in 57 games down on the farm, McKinney was called up on July 1 after Evan Carter hit the bereavement list. Advertisement The 30-year-old McKinney, who could have earned a lengthier stay with a good stint, went 1-for-7 with a run scored in two games for Texas. McKinney played in just 10 MLB games in 2024, playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Dallas native has posted strong numbers in the minor leagues, including an .866 OPS and .299/.406/.460 slash in 43 games for Triple-A Indianapolis last year, but it just hasn't translated to the big leagues. McKinney saw his playing time for the Yankees expand in 2023 after Aaron Judge's lengthy injury suffered in June. McKinney may choose to become a free agent, or continue getting reps down in Round Rock.
