Soccer stars and Diogo Jota's family gather for funeral of Liverpool player and his brother
Jota, 28, and his 25-year-old brother – who was also a professional footballer – died in a car crash in Spain early on Thursday morning, plunging the soccer world into mourning.
Jota's wife Rute Cardoso, with whom he shares three young children and who he married less than two weeks before the crash, was pictured embracing other mourners as she arrived at the chapel ahead of the service on Saturday morning.
Figures from the soccer world, including Portugal and Manchester City star Rúben Dias and Portugal national team head coach Roberto Martínez, were also in Gondomar, near Porto, on Saturday morning.
Jota's former Liverpool teammates, including captain Virgil van Dijk and ex-captain Jordan Henderson, made the journey to Portugal and are expected to be present.
The funeral on Saturday comes after a wake for the brothers' family was held on Friday morning at a church in their hometown of Gondomar, the church told CNN. It added that the doors at the Igreja Martiz de Gondomar were open to the public on Friday afternoon.

'Such an example for everybody'
Former Wolves captain Conor Coady says Diogo Jota was "an example for everybody". Coady has been speaking to BBC Sport about the shock passing of his friend on Thursday and recalled how the Portugal striker made an instant impression at Molineux. Advertisement "You could see it in his first session - that tenacity and the will to win was like no other," said 32-year-old Coady. "He was the heart and soul of the dressing room. He had a quiet way of going about himself. But you knew you could go to him about anything. For me as a captain, it was an honour and a dream to play with him." Before moving to England, Jota had already played under Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo while on loan at Porto, and also reunited with his former Porto and Portugal Under-21 team-mate Ruben Neves at the club. "He was born to play in the Premier League but Wolves were in the Championship," said Coady. "I used to always tell young people they need to learn from players like Diogo and Ruben, who were brave enough to step into the Championship to help a club who were struggling at that time. Watford sign Udinese's Semedo on five-year deal
Vivaldo Semedo has made four appearances for Portugal Under-20s [Getty Images] Watford have signed Portuguese forward Vivaldo Semedo on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Serie A side Udinese. The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Portuguese second division side Vizela, where he scored nine times in 25 appearances. Advertisement "Vivaldo is exactly the kind of player profile we want and need at Watford," sporting director Gian Luca Nani told the club website. "He will learn under [head coach] Paulo [Pezzolano] and we know he will adapt quickly to English football because we have already seen the development over a short period of time." Semedo has represented all of Portugal's international youth sides between under-17 and under-20 levels. He becomes the Hornets' fifth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Hector Kyprianou, Nathan Baxter, Marc Bola and Semedo's former Udinese team-mate James Abankwah.
